I really enjoyed Lucy’s face when they announced Bea Arthur..... you can see that she said with excitement “oh, Bea.....”. You could see that she was genuinely surprised and happy. No more quality and character like this..... definitely sadly a thing of the past.
Lucy looks genuinely thrilled here. A classy lady enjoying the performance of three other classy ladies. RIP Lucille Ball, Valerie Harper and Beatrice Arthur.
@@emilywerner3930 Both Lucille and Bea were known to be very difficult people. That was not said in admiration, or in a funny way. No doubt they were battling each other at the time. I swear…some of you are such polyannas about celebrities.
Randy Thompson I am sure it could have been in the works, but correct me if I am wrong, towards the end of her life, didn’t Bea kind of purposely limit her public appearances and become more of an introvert? Maybe she didn’t feel comfortable having all the fanfare. I find it interesting in reading biographies about her that she was actually kind of naturally shy despite having a love for the stage and singing. I think the end of the GG series, Estelle, on the other hand, really went into depression which caused a rapid decline in her physical and mental health. I think one of the things that many actors should be taught in performing arts programs is coping with the end of an era or excellent run; classics just can’t last forever and if you prolong a series after it starts a plateau, it can diminish it a little bit. I remember I was super sad as a kid when Bea wanted to end the show, I totally respect her decision now. She practically played the similar characters in her roles as Maude and Dorothy, a confident, sarcastic, progressive woman with a strong opinions.
@@ARZ1987 Actually, Estelle Getty's health began deteriorating while doing GG. If you watch, you can tell she's using cue cards during the final season. They thought she had Parkinson's at first, but it was actually a form of dementia that attacks the body, too. I don't know about Bea's life towards the end, but if she was a shy person, then being in theater makes sense - because in acting, you are someone else. You aren't you, so she could hide behind Maude and Dorothy and Vera Charles and bring out what was inside her.

I was on The Hogan Family's last episode when it was still "Valerie" just before the big lawsuit with Lorimar Pictures Television. They ran my episode as the second in the season of "The Hogan Family" and re-shot Valerie's scenes with Sandy Duncan.. Pretty scandalous!!I definately miss Miss Valerie Harper!!
Just a musical reminder that any woman who worked in a sitcom in the eighties, or the 60's or 70's or the 90's or the new century has a debt to pay Lucy. She showed everyone producing and directing in the new media, that a woman could be the star in a sitcom, keep it funny, keep it profitable and keep it fresh. She did not just do it once either, she did it three times. But for Lucy, these women and countless others might not have been given the license and freedom to star in theirs. They all stand on her shoulders.

Lucille Balls reaction when he says bea arthurs name 😍
Is this show Lucy produced?
