- I recorded this Hebrew song as a lullaby for my baby brothers and now my mother plays it for them every night before bed :)

This poem was written by Hannah (Anikó) Szenes.
She was born in 1921 in Budapest and made aliyah in 1939 while Israel was still under the British mandate.
In 1943 she volunteered as a paratrooper in the British Royal Air Force.
In 1944 she was dropped off an airplane over the Yugoslavian-Hungarian border with the objective of assisting the partisans in Hungary.
She and her companions were captured by Hungarian soldiers and sent to prison. There, she had endured interrogation under means of terrible torture, yet did not reveal the names of her fellow combatants or the transmission codes of their communication devices, even when her own mother, who was still in Hungary was arrested and threatened with death.
Since she was Hungarian born, she was brought up before a military tribunal and charged with treason.
She was executed in November 1944 at the age of 23 without her trial ever concluding.
This poem was found in her belongings after her death, together with other songs and diaries that she kept. It's known as "Eli Eli" for its opening line but she actually named it "A Walk to Caesarea". Here's a translation of the lyrics:

Thank-you, first heard this from Ofir Ben Shitrit about five yrs ago while sick - mental, use to drift in/out, was bad, & did a collection of Hebrew songs, from png and did not understand, due language, but the quality of the sound production caught my attention, especially early & late evenings, truly Beautiful. It reminded me of the lady in the Bible who just wanted to touch Jesus & get healed. YES, I've fully recovered & this song from Ofir is always played as my background music for my daily Prayers. Whats the story ?
A brave young Jewish girl, Hannah Szenes wrote this song. In WW2 she was parachuted into Hungary to fight the Nazis, was captured and tortured but gave away nothing! She faced her execution with defiance and calm, her last words were very beautiful.
She was only 22 years old but gave us this beautiful song
