Hey mate, just found your channel and I’m loving it. I can see how much effort you put into this and it must always be a question in every youtubers head in terms of effort for the number of views, I know this is fairly specialist viewing but truly hope you just keep it going. My life is a challenge with a special needs son and your channel gives me hope that it might be possible one day to get a cheap van and set it up for travel, I always thought that would be beyond me. Keep it up, love the work, the vans, your raw talent and ace camera work.
Hey Kevin glad you found the channel bud and super appreciate the kind words 👍 life can be a battle for sure I lost my 7 year old son a few years back and after sometime I dug my heels in brought myself back. There’s plenty of cheap vans to be had and I absolutely love them. Perfect for everyday use and for overnighter etc I don’t know why everyone doesn’t have them. I have a few build series coming up so hopefully you enjoy them. Thanks again bud Nathan
Ah yeh! Good job Nathan, hit us up when you fancy a set yourself. If your ever unsure of anything feel free to call 🤙 Mark, the results are impeccable like the rest of the van 👌. We can always machine locating screw holes to discs if required too. The handbrake will ratchet out without blowing air into the calipers eventually but this is a great time saving tip to push the pads out 🙏
Lovely van and a great brake upgrade 👌🏻 Told someone in a mk4 caddy about your channel today so I hope they subscribe. Happy new year Nathan and stay well 👌🏻
Wow that's some brake upgrade Nathan and thank you for the video. That Caddy will definitely stop on sixpence now. Lived tge Caddy's colour too. Happy New Year to you and family and have a top weekend.
For that handbrake caliper, you didnt need the air line. If you pull the lever on the caliper it moves the piston out a few mill. If you release the lever and pull again it moves the piston a few more mill. You are essentially pumping the piston out using the lever as the piston does not pull back in much. Its a clever system. The lever pivots on a bolt.with a very big pitched thread. Thats why a centimetre of pull at the caliper lever, equates to a similar movement of the piston
Thats a beauty. Really nice brake upgrade. I'm guessing you can do the same with a transporter! Hope he has some nice plans for the inside. Happy New Year🤟
Hey Nathan, Jimmy from Copenhagen really really cool color and overall some cool caddy you show, sitting here dreaming dreaming of making my caddy just as cool, But all equipment for cars and cars is very expensive in Denmark and I don't have the money for it, and I think it's great to watch your videos
Hi Nathan, what a massiv conversion! In Germany, every technician always indicates the position of the components as seen in the direction of travel. The rear brake callipers must have been attached to the front of the rear axle on the donor vehicle. Then the designation is correct. Best regards Greg
At Porsche the break caliper sits the other way around , If it has different sized pistons, you should pay attention to this, otherwise the brake block will wear incorrectly, - Really like watching your videos bro - greetings from Germany
Great video Nath, I was thinking, fit the handbrake cable and adjust it until it moved the arms slightly, then fill it with air. Then set the handbrake back up so that it releases the arms back, dunno if it would work but in my head if it was blown out with the handbrake slightly on once it’s released it will give the pads a bit more clearance so that it’s not dragging on the disc. Either way though if it was dragging on the disc it would soon bed in to nothing
in Europe light switches and plug switches are up for on, and down for off for safety if a brush falls over or a ladder and toilet handles are on the left not right . its all weird in the UK .
without the regular use of the hydraulic part of the caliper I think you will find over time (likely even within days/week or 2 you will find the piston is going to wind itself back and the handbrake travel is rapidly going to go through the roof. best way around this that I can think of is strip the caliper down removing the piston adding silicon or whatever other glue/adhesive to the thread (i would at least try silicon 1st as at least then its still serviceable/strippable in the future not to mantion 2pack glue etc if you dont get the job done fast enough you end up stuck now needing to replace the caliper) anyway if you do go down the route of fixing the piston thread solid you now only use the hand brake as a hand brake only for parking as you dont want wear on the pads at all as you will now wreck the hand brake travel only use it for parking and you should have no pad wear or handbrake travel change ove time. hope this helps
@@YTDTETV can try and tie it in with a live stream if you like? might be easier more helpful if you want to do that just keep this thread going and can work out a day/night/weekend time once you have cracked one side you will be on your way :) there is another way that will work and if it did would be the best route all be it it would defo still have to be park only no hbrake tyrns/corner asssit etc involving shimming infact thats likely a better idea if you want to do it that way get hold of any old caliper 1st that exact type/model (as long as its still good enough condition to manage to strip/wind out the caliper and can explain better as you are doing it least that way you can get the job done in one go with confidence once the vans in for the job....Will also be exclellent educational content for others of both ways :) make sure you have vernier guages kicking around will likely turn into a 2 part or 3 part video all in all
I wonder if Mark has the readings from the roller brake test at his last MOT, then could compare at the next MOT. See what difference it makes on that brake test before and after that brake conversion
@@MarkM3Vert all cars even like GTI's needs a master cylinder upgrade, R's which use bigger brakes are okay as their master cylinder is different, otherwise it is either TTRS or other brand master cylinder required as it results in very long or squishy pedal which is far from optimal.
@TheChazas I've read some have used a TTRS one but genuinly feels no different to stock but maybe something i will look into for the future. Thanks for the info bud 👍
The left/right thing is leading or trailing on the axle. Without knowing what they are off, I’d put my life they sit at the front of the disc originally.
Whoa ahah, you don't want to be tailgating that Caddy, cos 'Muck Fe' when he stamps on the stoppage pedal, he's stopping, Ah Ye. HNY DT, looking forward to 2025 Vids
Hi bud so the front discs where the same so one is going the correct direction and the other is going the wrong way, I did mention to mark the owner both these discs are the same one might look wrong 👍
Handbrake calliper ratchets piston out by moving the lever back and forward until you get pressure on it. I recall reading instructions on a new calliper saying you do it this way not with the pedal/fluid, I’ve done both ways and haven’t had an issue so not sure why they say that. You could also screw piston out with wind back tool. They also say to wind handbrake calliper out a bit after rewinding it on a pad change. We usually wind it out to it just slides back over pads. Do you put a breather on fluid hole of handbrake calliper?
Regarding the R and L marks on the calliper, on the Porsche, the calliper sits at the 9 o'clock position on the passenger side where as you have installed them at 3 o'clock. Therefore you had to swap them round to keep the bleed nipples at the top. Cars are always sided from the drivers seat, so left is passenger side to UK people. It's a regulation that's states this for consistency. Also, please tell me that you have put a blanking nipple in the original calliper to prevent water ingress, corrosion and ultimately seizure of the piston?

You can wind the piston out to take up the slack, that is wat the handbrake does when you pull the cable , takes longer then the air 😂
that things beautiful

Be the same readings you do it to the point of lock.
Only way to change the reading is to add weight or gripper tyres.
That is nice. A set of skirts would finish it off
