This TOXIC WASTELAND Almost Poisoned an Entire Town

  • Today we visit what's left of a site which used to make industrial chemicals for the agricultural industry. When the site closed, the soil was so contaminated that it has taken years for the clean up crew to make the area safe. Most of the site has now been turned into housing, but some still remains.

Exploring the dilapidated ruins of civilisation, abandoned untouched millionaire mansions, secret underground bunkers, derelict industrial factories and abandoned theme parks. We're not serious urban explorers, if you can't tell, so don't expect a history documentary packed with valuable information. Instead expect 3 down to earth guys exploring abandoned places. Urban Exploration is not for kiddies. Be safe whilst exploring.

After doing a bit of digging, seeme Bayer just upped and left, leaving a chemical soup of contamination on this and the main site over the road. The NEW owners only cleaned up the other site because they wanted to build houses, which they now have. I love the fact that a multi-billion $ company, BAYER, can just leave a site contaminated like this, the same company that has had the finger pointed at for the decimation of the world's wildlife and in particular bees.

Spent years in industrial process filtration, the “balls” on top of the large tank are shade balls (floats) to slow evaporation or to prevent sunlight causing a reaction in chemical compounds that could be in whatever fluid was in the tanks originally depending on the tanks use

Credit to Norton for his commitment to the channel! Great video, definitely an interesting place this one. I think drone footage is all good when it's done well or just edited into the video in bits as opposed to 10 minutes of flying around. Can't wait for next week.

Looks like a water treatment plant. Companies need to treat any water they use in industry before they pout it down the drains. Mate works at a plating company, and they have a full water treatment plant, their water is cleaner going out than coming in.

Found a small bit of history in this place:
As someone said below, it looked like a water treatment plant, so I looked it up and found it!
This waste water treatment plant is all that remains of the former Bayer Agrochemical Facility in Cambridge, the main facility across the road was demolished in 2010, the land was so badly contaminated with chemicals that a massive decontamination operation was undertaken, and it was reported at the time that the fumes from chemicals being released on site were having ill effects on local residents. The site was finally signed off as safe in 2014 and there are currently houses being built on the old main site. Across the road was the waste water treatment plant which remained in operation until 2012 when it closed for good. This side of the site was also home to the plant's playing field and indoor squash court.

I realize I'm being somewhat naīve and indulging in the sort of thinking where you have London full of Beefeaters and guys that wear monocles - but when the lads were going on about "Robocop's Detroit", I was thinking "Too right, mate, 'Industrial Hellscape', or what?!"
Imagine my surprise when it turns out it's Cambridge! "What, like, 'Dreaming Spires' Cambridge, with dudes in gowns, and 'specky' students in duffel coats going about on pushbikes..?"
Only the 'Dreaming Spires' is the 'other one', innit? Oxford! And _they're_ no more about Teddy Bear toting guys wearing boater hats and purple and yellow blazers gliding about in punts, than Cambridge is... More like car plants and recreational rioting in chav~y council estates, lol!
I suppose when you stop and think about it as well, chemical plants aren't necessarily _all,_ like, 'Bhopal' - jobs, it might actually make a ton of sense for them to be in university cities..?
