As a NZr, Burger was one of those players I hated but I loved to watch. He was a beast. Battles between him and McCaw as well as George Smith was peak.
I remember World Cup 2011 and the Boks hometown base was Wellington and I was heading home after a night out and I stopped at a popular eatery where people grab a snack on their way home, and for 2 hours straight at my table I sat there listening to Jannie, Bismark Du Plessis and Heinrich Brussouw arguing over which one of them wasnt afraid to run it striaight at Jerry Collins and one of them insisted he would call JC up seeing how they were in his hometown, all this while they helped themselves to my 5 piece chicken and chips..
Schalk is an absolute rugby legend. I can always see there is massive respect for him from former and current players. People who has met him in the streets say he is a truly wonderful , down to earth guy. Rugby needs more people like this. Everyone says he was like a "wild animal" when he pulled a rugby jersey over his head , but when he took it of he was very approachable , I know the AB like Carter and Kaino said it was a nightmare playing against him.Carter said Burger hunted him from the 1st to the last whistle and he felt that he had a target on his back which Schalk never ever stopped going at. If your opponents rate you highly then you should take note , SA supporters are so fickel I would rather listen to how good opponents say he was. Respect.
I can second that, I met Schalk on a flight to Scotland and was he a absolute legend spoke to me for a long time, one of favourite rugby players and I’m from Australia
2004 Burger oh my Lord, made of granite and an engine that just kept going..as a Kiwi back then watching the Boks come in with the likes or Burger, Habana and co amazing to watch 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Henry Tuilagi was a beast yea... used kinda like a Rugby Enforcer to the break lines😊 Springbok Rugby is no joke either though! Cheers to Schalk Burger and the old team - Good times 👍
It’s crazy that you hate players but then once you watch an interview of them, you gain respect them and realize they are human like everyone else. Much respect Scott and thanks for the funny story of Tuilagi 😂
he is only about 6 ft tall though.. so he looked pretty small next to guys like Bakies Botha... I'm 6'6 and took a photo with Henry at the airport, and the guy looked so small next to me afterwards when i looked at the photo
@@sheldoncooper0 yet where are all the highlights for these 6'6 ppl lol? And why do they chopped down so easily by smaller players if they're so strong? Tall means slow, manu tuilagi, Alesana tuilagi, Joshua tuisova, levani botia, maa Nonu, can tell you strength doesn't necessarily mean tall,
@@lakiseve the big athletic guys that are tall are in more lucrative sports. The top athletes in the US and Europe go into sports like basketball, boxing, soccer, and football.
Schalk I think most first fives would've said the same thing "not mine" or "you take him!" lol you as a young player would've got similar reactions from any back player.
Why does rugbypass spin headlines like that? He said that Os Du Randt admitted that after the game, if you had asked him if he was scared he would’ve said yes, because he was like in his mid 30’s at the time. I’m a kiwi and even I know Burger would never admit fear lol
He pretty much admitted it when he said 1) "To this day it's the scariest thing I've ever seen on a rugby field" 2) "I hoped to god he was going to run past Butchie, but he came straight at me!" 3) He agreed with Os Du Randt saying "It was a frightening sight!"
What an absolute pleasure to listen to one of the best, toughest players ever. Great story teller
Henry Tuilagi looks Like a freaking real life Orc. Scary Person💪🏾

Cool story

These Legends was fun to watch back then love this guy and how he carried himself on and off the field
The entire Tuilagi family is scary. Alesana, Henry, Manu etc... They have insane genetics💪💪
Tanks.
His story of Henry Tuilagi @ 6:05 cracked me up. Riding on Henry's back nd seeing your team mates getting bulldozed underneath on the way through lol.
Thank you
Yeah, I was LMAO during the whole story... 🙂
Schalk has been doing tv work in SA and has become a very good rugby analyst. He has a good observation of the game and explains himself well.
His level of analysis is superb. Never would have thought that he is such a great rugby mind considering he was mainly known for his physical play.
The best games were Schalk Burger vs Jerry Collins
Nice idea, but they only played against each other once at test level, and in that game JC came off after 50 mins.
Maybe after his serious injury and illness, but a young Schalk Burger was fearless, absolutely!
Nah I don’t believe he feared anyone ever, those Afrikaner boys are just real humble off the field.

I saw the team in 04 at the airport in Cape Town. I'm 6ft 1 but these guys were massive. Hands huge. Scary.
Schalk Burger one of my fave in rugby.
Every one loves this guy! A beast, and a pleasure to watch him play throughout the years. And that story was crack up 🤣

I mean look at the guy. He’s the closest thing to a giant boulder with legs and arms.
🤣 Such a good story!🇼🇸
Seeing those pro player cringing as Schalk list his injuries is priceless! 😳😳😳
What the hell were those Tuilagi boys eating as kids?
Older kids
Taro
Taro and ulu everyday
Taro and coconut cream = Samoan steroid.

Wait untill you see his Son! Posolo Tuilagi😵
He is 153kg at 19 years old.
@RugbyPass get your hosts microphones!
Burger is an impressive person
you need to understand Butch James is no small dude, if he was scared i can imagine about the rest

Huge respect to schalk If Henry was running at me I'd pass the ball to my mate and start praying for his mortal soul 💪😂
He is a Tuilagi so he probably still takes you out regardless
Great story 🤣
The Butcher "Henry"
Shalk looks like Hask and Owen’s actually hard older brother…
Figured he'd be most fearful of anyone wearing protective eyewear...
Scared? Just take a glass of Richelieu brandy and you won't be scared anymore. Maybe two glasses
Where's Max?
😂😂😂
I Like the reac USO GB you all. Jesus love us. Revel 18.4.
