This SUV brings back lot of childhood memories, I live in the US since 2004, but we had two Sumo DX which my dad bought in 1997 off the showroom floor for Rs. 4.6 Lacs each loaded with AC, radio, etc. for his tourist business, I was only like 2 or 3 but I still remember that we went everywhere in it like Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar, Goa, Sasan Gir, etc. I always loved the tough looks of these, especially the old model with the roof carrier and front bull guard. When I was talking to my dad about these, he said it was the best car to drive because it was tall, had great power(for it’s time), and reliability. I will certainly drive one when I visit India, I wish they sold them here in the States.

My father also had a 1996 Tata Sumo. Was an excellent car. But unfortunately had to sell it off in 2017 because it was just getting old.
My model didn't have an air conditioner and headrests.

@@Shunit It was a tough SUV, sadly we only kept ours for 2-3 years, that business was not going well as we learned our drivers were being dishonest on passenger counts and obviously we were losing money in the long run so decided to end it and passed them on for 2.5 lacs each after driving them i assume for less than 40000 km or 3 years. But while we had them we went everywhere in them. Ours didn’t have the headrest too, they only added them later in like 99-2000.
