Notice how he instinctively puts his hand on her shoulder then quickly removes it to remain in character
I noticed that as well.
Me too.
That would be considered sexual harassment..............
“Hey, this is my wonderful wife so I should show me affection. Wait, I’m the priest and she’s just a nurse. “
@@thephantomeagle2 They make a "lovely" couple.
Alan Alda seemed to genuinely enjoy watching the two of them together.
Of course he didn't! Hes Alan Alda, the perfect man.
Because he is not acting, that was a real reaction to two people he obviously cared about. It's very rare to see something like that.
It doesn't surprise me; Alda seems like a true romantic. I love the fact that he and his wife, Arlene Weiss, have been "inseparable" (his word) ever since they first met in 1956. They've been married for 67 years. ❤
of course he did. He cares for them even so far to keep William on the show. William contracted Hepititas near the fifth season and the writers are about to write him off. Alda went to bat for William because he had an autistic child and they needed that job.
Wow! I just learned today ( April 4, 2024) that this lady was William Christopher's wife in real life! That is so awesome, and it made that episode all that more meaningful to me!
I think Alan Alda enjoyed that even more than the audience at home.
He did, because it was real to him, he wasn't acting. To me, his genuine reaction was better than the backstory.
That smile they shared at the end was priceless.
I didn't know she was his wife! Such a cool fact. I LOVE this show!
Yeah, in some shows actors would ask directors if their wife or husband for a brief cameo in some episodes. I certainly love the chemistry between couples.
@@BlackCatFilmProductionsHer Character’s last name is her Maiden Name
Right at the end where they look at each other you can see the love.
0:25 He forgot for a moment that he was playing a priest.
He looks as if he was such a nice guy in real life.
I met him in person, and he was! It was at a mash 15 year reunion in 1985!
I love this show. Still cry over some of the episodes even tho I know them by memory
Real life great people. So glad to see this.
A beautiful song by a beautiful couple!!!
They make a cute couple.
I did not know they were married!
Very sweet.
Beautiful Moment from a Beautiful Show!
Never knew that was his real wife cool
I knew there was magic with them. ❤❤❤ I love that they were together. Such gems.
What a wonderful couple.
What a good man! I am glad he had a great partner
I had no idea his wife was in this episode
First episode I ever watched!
Awesome!
This is weird I'm watching this exact episode on Metv without knowing it. Since I just got into MASH I was searching William Christopher on YT for the first time and this vid pops up as soon as the scene starts. I just thought that was a crazy coincidence how that happened lol
Bill and Babs!
I didn't know! Cute!
Good to know😊
That is really sweet. I remember when the news broke of William Christopher's passing on Dec. 31, 2016 - which was the last day of what was then considered to be the worst year in modern times. Little did we know. On to better times, and may this couple's work live on well into the future.
Worst yr why?
2016 Worst year in modern times ? Besides the Padre's passing what did we miss ?
@@pressureworks Seriously?
In your opinion. Many of us were glad to see Obama and Biden gone so the droning of thousands of women and children would stop, the end of the Iran nuclear agreement which guaranteed escalating wars in the Middle East, the ROE in Afghanistan that cost so many American lives. I dont sit by and let these snide comments pass any more, even if you are a MASH fan.
I'd say 2020-2022 are a fair bit worse than orange man upsetting your sensibilities.
So cute😊
His voice kills me
Not only were they married IRL, her maiden name is O’Connor
Married for 59 years!! (1957-2016) Good for them!! 😀😀
@@femgoo Alan and Arlene Alda have also been married since 1957, 65 years.
Did Alan Alda call her by "Barbara" as he helped her to stand?
Sounds like he did. Her character's name could just be Lt. Barbara O'Conner.
Saw one the other day where you could read his lips calling Margaret Loretta instead of Margaret.
he did but if this is her only appearance and its so short it doesnt matter much since we only get her last name and rank a lot of actors opt to do that when writers cant think of character names they come up with last names and the actor will use their real first name
I've never seen this scene. All the episodes I watched were in syndication. I guess this was cut out.
This scene is cut out by most stations in syndication. MeTv is the first station I’ve seen show it.
I would have never guessed that Lt O’Conner was Father Malcahey’s REAL LIFE WIFE. Plus her Characters last name is her Maiden Name

Barbara seems as talented as Bill. Wonder if she's still alive.
I do believe she is
anyone know the title of this song?
His wife looks like the lady who played Pam's mom on Dallas. 🤔
his wifes pretty
Was never sure if she was his wife or his sister. They kinda look alike.
That's my cousin...................
she was his college gf
@@nutcrackernoonan3637 They made a lovely couple.
Been watching a lot of reruns of MASH....cuz everything else on TV is hot garbage.
