Ooh oh when I saw the layouts I recognized! I saw the stream on the sheridan animation server where people were getting critiques and I saw that one! You did a great job btw!!
you don't need sheridan to succeed💜 i went to a tiny college in ontario for animation & was offered 2 really good jobs before even graduating. all it takes is passion and the drive to improve. you can do it!

Your progress in bg and shape is very impressive. Although my opinion would be to practice 3d forms and their orientation while drawing them or using for reference in updated 2d it seems your characters seem flat while the world has depth. In coloured pieces you might need to duller and gray values more for portraying the same effect. I struggled in similar aspects hence sharing what helps.
TBH this years the grade gap is due to Oscar awards. (I got in this program 2 years ago, back when the accept rate was 150 out of 1200. This year my professor told me they received about 1800 portfolios ) There are lots of paid portfolio institutions around Toronto(mass producing portfolios), I believe there will be more next year LOL.
This makes me sorta nervous i wanna apply to calarts in a few years and I know it’s gonna be hard eheh also if you don’t have the animators survival kit i would recommend it, it has helped me a bunch also you should probably work on your anatomy more not trying to be rude just i have been watching your vids since 2018 and wanna see you succeed 😅

Were there any more novice people who were pretty new to most areas of art? That's my case, but I've gotten into the program and have to decide by tomorrow if I'll accept it not. I'm scared that most people in there will be extremely advanced artists like you, and I won't be able to keep up! Any sort of feedback you could give me would help so much, thanks a lot.
There was definitely a mix of skill levels, I actually felt like I wasn’t as good as other artists but everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and no one is really judging each other :)

i stopped trying because how much this program costs but they have part time courses incase which is good practice

As long as your grades are above 65% (I think) you're good! It's mainly based on the portfolio :)
