Had a great view of one of these a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I were canoeing on lake Coniston and it flew down the lake and over us about a 100ft in the air. Very impressive.
That's certainly the best footage of a V-22 I've seen thus far. When POTUS 46 visited St Ives this summer, he apparently arrived in an Osprey. Quite possibly the same aircraft that flew over my home earlier that day, shaking everything inside and interrupting my recording session... Dang! Just one of those occasions when one doesn't have an RPG handy.

It's one great feat of engineering. Those two engines pods together look as big as the main body. How do you fly one? You can start take-off as a normal fixed wing aircraft but land as a helicopter, they have totally different controls. Love to know how the flight controls transition works.
they can’t point their engines 100% forward on the ground while their engines are running cause their props will hit the ground but I can’t see why they can tilt the engines at a angle for a some what normal take off
They often do make running take offs and landings but the best bit is the wings and blades all fold away in 90 seconds its plane helicopter and transformer all in one seen here ua-cam.com/video/57LfifvsTSg/v-deo.html fast forward to 3.54
its rubbish... overpriced crap. its killed 86 people already. if one rotor stops working creating a vortex instability it will fall like a stone. it cost 110 billion to 'develop' and too expensive and fragile to use.
They have joystick and then a thrust lever with a transition wheel on it to move the rotors to forward flight. Takes a bit of training but once you have it it's pretty intuitive. It had a lot of teething issues in development and a number of high profile crashes, but the capability of vertical landing with the speed and range of a winged aircraft makes it worthwhile. It'll be cool to see the next gen tiltrotors like the V-280 in service eventually.
Only ever seen them for real once, and that at a considerable distance. When visiting the US Navy museum at Pensacola we drove through the US Navy base and air station there, they had several of the prototypes (yes, it was that long ago) parked on the ramp. No photography allowed, obviously, but they looked impressive. Learned later that they were parked there because the test program had been interrupted by some serious design flaws that had been found (and have since long been rectified).
Please sir, can I ask. Do you feel safer in the Osprey compared to a Chinook? Those things look as if they could have a few failings. I have no idea what I'm talking about, just looking for a personal experience response.
@@daviejay8714 I would say that the Chinook probably has better weaponry aswell. 3 manned guns at doors compared to the one on the rear loading ramp on the Osprey.
