  • Fishing for BIG Pike is still one of my favorite things to do even though I do not get to do it as often as I would like. To me Pike are just pure fun, they are big and mean! They see themselves of the Alpha Dog in any water body they are in and are scared of nothing!

"Treat them like predators, and you'll catch them like predators" is actually super accurate 😆 Give them a small, finesse livebait presentation, and they'll grab your bait soft and gently. Rip a large artificial bait across their face, and they'll absolutely smack it. They 100% will match your energy.

Clayton, I watch you for several reasons. The number one reason is you are real. By that I mean you know fishing and you love it, but you stay humble. You share your knowledge and love of fishing in a personal way. Your specialty is that you are just one of the guys. I feel like you're a best friend (although we haven't met) and not someone who's just trying to sell me something. Your live chat sessions are among the best out there because you actually interact with your followers. You sit down and have a few drinks with us, answer our questions, and spend your time with us and we laugh together. Every successful UA-cam creator is different, which is good. Just do you, and you will be fine. Always trying to improve or be better is a great characteristic and I think you have come a long way since I first found your channel. keep it up big guy...!!!

Clayton. What an absolute 44” Sow. Those big ones are so cool to see and catch. What a great fish. Thanks for the pike video. We are heading to north SK end of July to catch some slobs on the Haultain system. Can’t wait.
Next the videos are awesome my favourite things are:
    1. Good clean content even little kids can watch. That is so important and hope you keep that up. You definitely have a young audience who follow you closely (especially in my house)
    2. Quality fish
    3. Quality instruction
    4. You have great equipment for filming (sure you could sink 50k into crazy fancy video stuff but I don’t think the return would be all that much) some of the best UA-camrs have simple set ups
    5. Bloopers (dropping lunch down the ice hole for example) keep leaving the funny slip ups in. Shows people you are just a regular fisherman who happens to film what he does
    6. Q&A ask Dr Donkey is great would keep that up
    7. Give aways are awesome. Keeps people curious. I know that’s not an easy thing to do always but adds a fun dynamic
    8. Clay vs …… those are always entertaining
    9. Respect of the fish. You have taught me a great deal on how to handle and release the big ones
    10. Respect of the water and fellow anglers. Good lesson in today’s video.
Hope that helps. Can’t wait for the next video. Hope to meet you in person some day. Keep the intro please please “Well what is going on” classic.
Two thumbs up. Keep them coming.

You have one of the best channels on YT. But you said it during the video, you haven’t caught a crappie/bluegill or other species. That’s what casual viewers and dedicated ones would love to see!! You going out and learning something new yourself that you can teach us at home. Of course we wanna see you catch fish in the beautiful outdoors, but we also wanna learn from you! We can learn together👍

Huge fan of everything you do! Things that I really like about your channel: 1.Your enthusiasm for Big Fish and the Outdoors and fish handling. 2. The knowledge that you drop and the way that you drop it. I like the subtle knowledge where you have to pay attention to the fine details of your videos. 3 Livescope footage, Underwater footage, drone footage anything to enhance the catch. 4. I really enjoy the competitive side of your fishing channel be it vs Carter or Jay or Cindy I think it makes for great UA-cam content.
I would say variety is the spice of life and I appreciate how you are always catching walleye and pike and lakers in a variety of ways. I know you have targeted Tarpon and Groupers and smashed it in Florida I think new species and trips throughout Canada and the states would be better for your channel and re visiting some species you have had success with in the past Carp, Stock trout, Cats. I would love to watch you chase a new PB every video of a new species or exotic species. ( Constructive criticism. I Know we all don't have Jay money. lol)

Sorry for the long post but here it is take it or leave it lol
I always enjoyed your videos Clayton, you've always caught giants and you seem like a very humble dude.
Better videos, i will say from my personal opinion, i tune into fishing content to educate myself. I dont have the ability to fish every weekend, and so keeping up with content creators keeps me learning even when im not out there. Aaron Wiebes videos have always been great in this regard as well. The last few years since FFS came out have been a little different, for those who use FFS im sure they love the new content. For me personally fishing videos became much less educational and less enjoyable with the content creators using FFS. What i liked about videos before FFS is they used technologies that weren't cheap by any means, but most anglers could afford a small screen unit that had SI, DI and mapping technologies. FFS is 5x the cost of these units, and so right out the gate content creators aren't teaching anything to a large % of anglers because a lot of people just cant throw $5000 at a fishing unit. Further, the content using FFS doesnt give you any knowledge you can take out onto the water, because absent the FFS you wouldnt know many of the fish being caught were there in the 1st place. Instead of reading your landscape and bottom structure you look for fish 1 by 1 on FFS and its just not educational or very exciting anymore. Dont get me wrong i know guys like you, Jay and Aaron obviously still analyze mapping and side imaging to find structure that hold fish. But once on a spot FFS seems to take over. Ill admit ever since the FFS technology came out i have been torn on it. I grew up in the 90s, and every piece of technological advancement since then has been awesome and i have embraced everything that has come out to make fishing more fun and more enjoyable. FFS just never sat right with me, it seems to take something away from fishing, call me old school but i dont want to know exactly where the fish are 40ft away from the boat, i still love the unsuspectedness of a bite when casting baits.
Obviously for jigging and ice fishing its a bit of a different story, ice fishing without these technologies wouldnt be as popular as it is, and so im less torn over live sonar when it comes to ice fishing.
Some of the best content now is content that isnt just fishing, but adventure thrown into the mix. Camping on an island for 4 days and trying to catch your dinner, or portaging into back lakes to fish untouched waters. Obviously content like 39 hours is just the best of what you can get in the fishing world, that series was truely one of the funnest fishing content videos you can watch on UA-cam. If the videos are fishing focused as yours usually are, you already do a great job, but education education education, maybe with a little less FFS lol
Keep up the great work Clayton, im just one guy with an opinion, i love your content and always watch every new video!!!

I am a fair bit south from you (South Dakota) down here the magic trick to monster pike is super simple, a big chatter bait with a 5" soft plastic swim bait like a boot tail as a trailer. They hit that set up with hatred in their hearts! You can just tell how badly they want it dead.

I love your videos. For me personally I want to hear more about the gear. Rod length, power/action, line type, leader?, what knot are you using for the application….
A lot of people push brands and I don’t think you do that as much if. But for example Bama Saltwater says “I got a 4000 sized reel on a 7’4” fast action medium power inshore rod, with 15lb braid to 20lb flouro using a uni to uni knot, then at the end I used a loop knot to attach this 3/4oz buck tail jig….” Or whatever you get the idea! THAT for me, would be the sweetest addition!

Your videos are alway very entertaining to watch. As an angler from the same area, you catch fish in every video just about that I can only dream of catching and the fact you want to make your videos even better and have the motivation to try and improve your videos makes not just me but I think all your fans exited to see what you have coming. If your looking to improve it would be nice to see you go into more of a cinematic style of videos like Jon B style rather than the typical UA-cam angler. But either way a Clayton Schick video is always a good time to watch.

Someone needs to develop a better fishing net for Northern's and the hooks they usually barrel roll into them... barbless is the way to go but even pinched barbs can get hooked into those nets and still become difficult to untangle. I only break out the net for BIG fish now.

Clayton do you think Glide baits would work here in Northern New York? The ADK Mountains?

There is some serious fishing negligence/ lack of care for others on lakes. Its quite sad. Its also ruined my day a few times. Had a seado suck up my line once whe. I was kid and fishing from the dock.

Don't get a camera guy. I'm sure its a lot of work to film and edit all this but one of our favorite fisherman in wisconsin now uses a camera guy and I feel like he talks to him more than his audience . I love your videos, Don't change a thing!

    Good man Clayton!
I'm not condoning his behaviour but the worst thing he did was wash out your spot and send you a little wake. Nothing to hold a grudge over. Ive had guys come in and just start trolling my spot as im actively jigging walleyes. I just start up the motor and put myself somewhere else rather than diving into negativity...
    Some peoples kids I say...
