Joshua Taylor, I like how precise your videos are and I especially like that you go out of your way to respond to every commenter on your posts. God bless you brother!
Thanks for the information. I picked up a popping cork and tied the rig to go fishing this past weekend. I caught 10 speckled trout in about 70 minutes!
just moved to the coast and having been a crappie fisherman my whole life this whole saltwater thing is new to me. i appreciate the video and information. very informative, looking to get out of the strike column this week!
Sir i wanna thank you so much because. i had bought that cork and i didnt had the Slide idea how to use it. its been in my tackle box for so long , but thank to your Video. now i can give a good use of if.
Have been using the rig you suggest and every time we fish my son will catch a big red. We typically fish for trout, but it is usually his first catch in the area, boom, he is hooked up and smiling. We love it and thanks for your video. We like the DOA, the VUDU, 1/8 or 1/4 heads, all the colors, the GULP, just good fun. We have had flounder bites but seldom get them in the net. Thanks, thanks, thanks
One of my preferred rigs for Red's and Trout. I modify all of mine with 50 lb floro replacing the hard wire or braid wire. I think it works best with fluorocarbon like. Yet another great rigging tutorial vid. Thanks Capt. Tight Lines 🎣
Thanks Jeff, we definitely will. The transition shouldn't be too hard. I am an avid fisher of both saltwater and freshwater, it's two different worlds but they are both great!
thanks for all your tutorials that you share with us Capt Josh. u seem to have made the loop knot pretty easy but the camera was kinda low. if possible can u make a tutorial video on how to tie a loop knot? keep up the great work.
+iHuntxdzers Back about 5 years ago I was fishing with a good friend. He runs a 6pac day fishing boat full time. I was having a major hard time getting to the yellow tailed snapper in the coral without getting hung up. I pulled out and old bobber and put it on my line. My friend about pooped himself. He laughed and said "what? You think we are bluegill fishing?". I just kept on doing my thing and cast out a bit of cut bait. After the 5th snapper he wanted a bobber. I said sorry only one. Now people finally see the value. My wife and I joke that bobbers are for kids and popping floats are for adults.
Great video, thanks.. I'll be using this setup at my spot in Laport, Texas when I wake up. Targeting Reds and of course, Specks. My first time using artificial bait. Wish me luck!
Hello Liam, I am personally not familiar with Kiawah Island. From my experience, your best bet is to talk to the locals once you arrive, keep your rigs simple and match the food source which is abundant in that area. That is pretty much the formula for success wherever you decided to venture to. Let us know how you do.
Hello Russel, I would assume you are probably fishing extremely shallow? If so, I would first try free lining live shrimp or greenbacks. Attach your leader directly to your main line and a 1/0 Owner hook. Are you sight casting? Shallow water reds can be very finicky, therefore sometimes a popping cork isn't your best option.
Love the video and information. I recently relocated to Jacksonville, FL and wanted advice on how and possibly where to fish for Redfish. The rig you describe is simple and I am finding it more and more. Just went to Mosquito Lagoon and didn't catch one red fish. very disappointing when you're paying for a charter....I am going to buy a small boat and hit the creeks in Jacksonville. If you have any additional information on how to fish for the Big Reds, please let me know. Again, love the clean, direct video.
Yes, you can use circle hooks and a variety of baits. I like using the popping cork with a 1/0 owner and greenbacks for redfish and snook. Don't be afraid to try out new techniques and baits, you never know what will produce for you.
Next time try and go shallower, In our area the ladyfish love to hangout in the 3-6 feet of water. As you work your way to the 2.5 - 3 foot range, look for good grass with sandy pot holes. If the water is low, you have to go out further, as it comes in, start creeping toward the mangroves.
Great video!! What lb would you recommend for the main line? June/July Sound fishing in Avon, NC and going to use this set-up. Should I go with 10lb momo connected to the 25lb leader? Thanks for the help!
Any of these type corks will work with the same principle explained here. I like DOAs, but haven't had much luck recently except with live shrimp. Had an old-timer use the same setup above (I use Cajun Thunders) with the same leader, two clear glass beads free above a 2.0 or 3.0 treble hook or circle hook. Have had good luck with the setup, but want to master the artificials so appreciate your tips Joshua.
Thank you so much for this video. I can't wait to try this in July when I get to go back to the shore. I am new to fishing (have been 3x's and am addicted to salt water fishing!). I prefer to fish from shore in a salt water marsh we found while camping. In April, I had real shrimp on a hook and a plain jane red/white bobber on my line and had what I think redfish jumping on top of my bobber, but not hitting my bait :( Do redfish jump out of the water? Or was it a different kind of fish landing on my bobber, and what should I use to go after those types of fish, if that is what is in the salt marsh when I am there in July? I can't wait to add this to my tackle box and put it to work! Thanks so very much!
Never been saltwater fishing but I'm going next week. What kind of rod and reel do you throw this on? I'm bringing a bass rod, somewhat light tackle spinning rod, medium weight catfish spinning rod, and a 12ft surf rod. Want to try a couple different methods. Going to daulphin island. Thx for any advice you can offer
I'm somewhat new to the whole pop cork. Iv always preferred dragging a shrimp along the bottom and twitching it. A man at academy told me to try this and some mojo shrimp. I'm fairly happy with the combo. The shrimp are like swim bait there fails move as if there swimming. They also have a little class tube with mini bb's in it as a rattle. It works well. If tried the gulp in the past but they didnt work to well for me. I'll get nibbles and a hit and run all the time. If gotten 5+ hit and runs in a hour with gulp and ended up not catching a single one that day lol.
+Santana Rios Cabelas is a great place also. Great shipping and great customer service. I buy from Bass pro, but prefer Cabelas 10-1. I ordered 3 green ones last night.
Stuff My Pillow I think you could use most soft plastics and they would work. Doesn't hesitate to try it, the worst that could happen is you not catching your targeted fish.
So I'm poor to afford another rod and reel since it's expensive here, so quick question can I use popping cork rig for my go to bottom rig rod? I tied a snap swivel for the mainline since I usually change rigs whenever I feel like to..
Is it best to stay in one place and keep casting or keep moving around. I have all offshore experience and trolling so red/specks are totally foreign. Gr8 vid thx!
I like to fan cast and move after the fan cast. You will know if fish are present within ten minutes or so usually. Unless fish are transitioning with the tide.
How deep off the cork should I be fishing?..heard about 16" is recommended but I've seen big reds swimming in ankle deep water right in front of me ...Im in southern Louisiana if that matters..
DOA sells a deadly combo that worked great for me this weekend we got 5 Trout. But when going for Redfish is the idea to have your shrimp on the bottom or hanging at a certain depth from the bottom. Of course we're generally in shallow water already.
What boat do you have, and how much? I might move to FL in a couple years and I don't have a boat to go out for redfish, trout, sheepshead, and more. I might just start with an aluminum boat.
Ultimate-Baits is a small local company in NC making a new amazing popping bobber. Not yet available on line. Hard plastic, I sorted weights, glass beads on line.
Is there a certain size hook on that DOA or they just come like that originally? Just thought maybe I could put the same setup on a jig but what size weight and hook for this same setup?
OMG, my bad English... I thought you are gonna to open Champagne. I imagined something like "woohoo, that's for you, mr. fish! Congratulations, I'm gonna eat you! *champagne cork pop*"
First time fishing with cajun thunder popping cork. Thank you for tutorial i caught 5 red fish in 3hrs of fishing using the rig. Can i use this for flounder too? Any suggestions will help, thanx!
That is great Phet, You can use it for all species. For flounder just make sure your bait is hitting the bottom, you might need to lengthen the leader a tad.
I know the action may be hindered a bit but I use a clinch knot to tie on my soft plastic lure (instead of the loop knot) what’s your thoughts on this? Still effective ?
I'm headed down to Copano Bay in Rock Port Tx this weekend and looking for a couple rigs that I can use off the piers. Is this a good one for trout and reds?
***** The brand is called TrikFish 40lb Leader, Im using this with 30lb braid. I've gotten so use to using the Palomar knot for my braid since it hasn't let me down yet, though I have found I waste a lot of line using that knot which is the only thing I don't like about it. Thanks for the information. I picked up a popping cork and tied the rig to go fishing this past weekend. I caught 10 speckled trout in about 70 minutes!
+Bill Lott That's great! They love the popping cork.
On deep water or I can do use this cork on the surf
just moved to the coast and having been a crappie fisherman my whole life this whole saltwater thing is new to me. i appreciate the video and information. very informative, looking to get out of the strike column this week!
You will have a blast, different world but a ton of fun. Good luck!

Thank you! Im new to fishing and I love it, it is the great fishermen out there like yourself that really help
+Jay Hinojosa You are welcome and thank you Jay.
Very helpful. Thank you. I didn't know that I needed a swivel connected to the wire part of the cork. Makes a lot of sense. 👍🏾👍🏾
I caught this redfish on a 3 inch berkley gulp shrimp..caught some flounder also...they definitely work!
+Eric McGovern Nice fish, they are a deadly bait.
thanks for all your tutorials that you share with us Capt Josh. u seem to have made the loop knot pretty easy but the camera was kinda low. if possible can u make a tutorial video on how to tie a loop knot? keep up the great work.
Hello Rico Suave , I will try to put one together. Thanks!
Was looking for this setup, thank you for vid. New to fishing and will definitely try this out in South Texas lakes
Thanks man your video is very easy to understand for begginers like me
Glad to help bud
Thanks for the great informative video! Keep up the great work & keep fishing!
fishingherald Thanks bud!

Thank you Joshua i will lengthen the leader and give it a try on my next fishing trip. I appreciate your advice.
You're welcome! :)
Great setup ! I have had good luck with the Cajun Thunder and Vudu Shrimp
***** It's a good setup.
Bump bump bump and it's on. Great video
Yes! Thank you!
Thanks. I have bought a few popping corks but never knew how to use them until now.
+wiiman843 You're welcome bud.
I caught a spotted sea trout today on popping cork. So it worked.
+wiiman843 Awesome!

I don't even know who you are without the beard man
I know lol
Great work josh! you look a lot younger in these older videos :-)
I saw those corks at Walmart last night, I'm going back and get one today.
Gonna definitely try this I had no idea how they work thanks
+Jose Castillo They definitely do, you're welcome
Cool thank you coming down to FL in April will definitely give it a shot
Great, good luck!
I'm well thanks for asking, you can use a multitude of corks. I just prefer Cajun because they create so much noise and they have been very durable.

Holy Smokes!!! What are you 18 😁. We have an imposter. Sound the alarm. 😂 🎣😎🎣😎🎣😎🎣
lol, I don't show that baby face much anymore.

thanks , I watched your video and bought the same color popping cork online , so gonna try it as soon I'll get it
'
They are very effective, good luck out there!
Thanks Joshua !!
Going to have to try a cork
It's a great little rig that creates a ton of commotion.
Live bait is a great alternative. You can use a popping cork to draw attention to almost any lure or baitfish.
Hello Santiago, I would start with 2.5 foot of leader. The sound will draw the fish to the lure.
Great video!! What lb would you recommend for the main line? June/July Sound fishing in Avon, NC and going to use this set-up. Should I go with 10lb momo connected to the 25lb leader? Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the video. I really needed to see this. Please show on camera how to make the loop knot thanks. I am subscribing.
Diane Terrizzi I will work on this for you. :)
Thank you sooo much. Great videos!
Got yourself a subscriber
Welcome aboard!
Joshua Taylor thx man
Great video!
Awesome video!
hey Joshua, yea most of the places that ill be fishing are shallow some of them are not..but yea I'm doing sight casting….
This is a good video thank you .
Guitar Dave You're welcome and thanks!
I'm in Lakeland ,huge bass man but trying to learn how to catch these saltwater fish I'll be watching and learning, keep outing them I
Straight forward thank you 👍🏼

good video, simple and informative. How would I use a little split shot weight with it?
Just place it a foot or so below the cork.
Thank you so much for this video. I can't wait to try this in July when I get to go back to the shore.

BUCKSLAYER Hey there, check out my video for inshore rod and reel selection, that will give you all you need to get started. Thanks!
Nice video. What knot do you use for tying the other end of the cajun thunder? Specifically for braided line? Thanks
I like the improved clinch knot but I wrap the line through the swivel twice before tying.
Joshua Taylor Got it. Thanks
I'm gonna use this tomorow but I'm using a treble hook should I add a little weight to the cork so that my line is straight in the water ?
Reeling N' Revving you can use weight but the less hardware, the better off you will be.
I'm somewhat new to the whole pop cork. Iv always preferred dragging a shrimp along the bottom and twitching it.

Popping corks draw a lot of attention, you should try it. :)
Hello Jonny Bott, check out my other video "Recommended tackle for snook and redfish."
I go over some of the light inshore tackle that I prefer.
Hi Josh. Thank you, for posting the video and also i would like to find out where can i purchase the orange popping cork . thank
+Santana Rios Hello, I purchase my corks off of Amazon and Ebay most of the time but Bass Pro has them.
+Santana Rios Cabelas is a great place also. Great shipping and great customer service. I buy from Bass pro, but prefer Cabelas 10-1. I ordered 3 green ones last night.
What other soft baits might you recommend? Do you think Storm Wildeye Swin baits would do the task for trout/redfish?
Stuff My Pillow I think you could use most soft plastics and they would work. Doesn't hesitate to try it, the worst that could happen is you not catching your targeted fish.
***** Thanks!

Nice vids! Would snook on the beach hit this? or will the cork scare them away?
(Sanibel)
Gerry Shappell This rig could work but I prefer to free line on the beach when using live bait.
***** thx!
Gerry ur a bot
great video very informative what type of knot are you us an the shrimp
Excellent
+Richard Guindon Thanks!
Is it the same with a cigar shaped Cajun Thunder cork?
Hello Sam Collins, yes it will work with most shaped corks.
A good rule of thumb is about two feet. Most reds that we catch here in Florida are in two to three feet of water on average.
Very productive way of catching redfish in Virginia I perfect live bunker under the cork though.
thanks for the video ! would you recommand this with live bait ?
Absolutely, works great with greenbacks and shrimp.
What do you think about trying up here in New Jersey for bluefish and strip bass
I think it wouldn't hurt to try, they like loud noises and often times feed more aggressively.
Thanks Matt
Can I use the shrimp as a normal jig, and let it sink to the bottom? With the popping action?
ajbrooks56 You could yes.
Hello 2342makaveli, you pop the cork and then let it sit a few seconds and then repeat.
20-30lb leader with what Pound mainline?
I usually use 10-15lb for inshore applications.
DOA sells a deadly combo that worked great for me this weekend we got 5 Trout. But when going for Redfish is the idea to have your shrimp on the bottom or hanging at a certain depth from the bottom. Of course we're generally in shallow water already.
Thank you Josh.
You're welcome Chris.
What boat do you have, and how much? I might move to FL in a couple years and I don't have a boat to go out for redfish, trout, sheepshead, and more. I might just start with an aluminum boat.
I have a Hewes Redfisher, it is the perfect inshore fishing machine and they hold value nicely.
Love this vid
Any recommendations regarding what colors of DOA shrimp work best? I am new to the salt.
***** My favorite include: new penny and nuclear chicken.
***** Thanks a ton. That should gets me started.
Thanks for the great video!
You're welcome!
OMG, my bad English... I thought you are gonna to open Champagne. I imagined something like "woohoo, that's for you, mr. fish! Congratulations, I'm gonna eat you! *champagne cork pop*"
How much leader do I need for the Popping Cork? Is 2.5 feet ok? I am fishing in tidal creeks and grasses along river edges. Thanks
great vid
Thanks Central Florida Anglers
Would this work fishing from a beach pier? Do you add weight?
cashfan85 No weight needed, it could work from a pier but I prefer a slip bobber rig to adjust depths.
When selecting a leader length, do you want the bait to settle on the bottom or always float just off bottom?
First time fishing with cajun thunder popping cork. Thank you for tutorial i caught 5 red fish in 3hrs of fishing using the rig. Can i use this for flounder too? Any suggestions will help, thanx!
That is great Phet, You can use it for all species. For flounder just make sure your bait is hitting the bottom, you might need to lengthen the leader a tad.
I know the action may be hindered a bit but I use a clinch knot to tie on my soft plastic lure (instead of the loop knot) what’s your thoughts on this? Still effective ?
It will still work.
Hiii..... Good video
I found this works extremely well with mackerel with cut greenbacks
Yes sir, it's very effective!
I'm headed down to Copano Bay in Rock Port Tx this weekend and looking for a couple rigs that I can use off the piers. Is this a good one for trout and reds?
dustin woodul It is but depends on the depth you will be fishing.
We will be mainly fishing from piers so 10-20ft
I would fish closer to the bottom and mid column.
Thanks ! Do you still suggest the popping rig or something more like a santee rig or slip bobber?
I live in Rockport and love fishing there. Good luck!
Hey man great video! will this work for a braided line with mono leader?
tying a loop-knot with fluorocarbon has been giving me problems, is this an absolute necessity for this rig?
What kind of fluoro are you using? It shouldn't but you can use other knots, the loop knot allows for free action.
*****
The brand is called TrikFish 40lb Leader, Im using this with 30lb braid. I've gotten so use to using the Palomar knot for my braid since it hasn't let me down yet, though I have found I waste a lot of line using that knot which is the only thing I don't like about it. Thanks for the quick reply.
Will this work under the dunlowten bridge in causeway park?
+Max Lee Absolutely
Will this work at the jetties? Can I use live shrimp ? Thanks I am subscribing
Ryeen Neil Absolutely, this rig will virtually work anywhere.
Can you buy the popping cork all together, or do you have to make one?
+Mark Tucker Hello Mark, you can purchase then pre-made in Amazon.
Does this rig work well for both spinning and casting rods?
Yes it does.
Do the corks have different size weights or are they set to a certain weight on all corks?
