    The Lexus LS400 is the best engineered car on the planet. BMW, Mercedes and jaguar are for badge snobs. The Lexus is for people who know a really good car when they see one, it's what lies beyond the badge that counts. I feel that my 1999 mk4 will out live me and I'm only 39!!! Fabulous luxury cars, why drive anything else?

    the fact that they managed to make a V8 run this smooth in 1990 is pretty impressive

  • @LSnium
    @LSnium 3 роки тому +9

    You can tell how smooth this car is just by looking at it on how it just feathers down the road, and I can say this because I own one.

  • @mrdoofa9357
    @mrdoofa9357 8 років тому +69

    I believe when it comes to smoothness, noise and refinement an LS400 will even give a Rolls Royce a run for its money and probably beat it!!! That's why many refer to it as the Japanese Rolls Royce. I can't imagine how any car can be much quieter, when you stop at traffic lights you think it's stalled until you check the rev counter. It really is that quiet. As an autotrader used car heroes video on UA-cam states, you could probably get a MB of similar age and spec but it will be from the time when Mercedes stopped engineering their cars properly so will undoubtedly be a glitch fest.

    Have a 1990 LS400, rare burgundy cloth interior and burgundy exterior. Only 51k miles!! clean and very well maintained. I truly admire the craftsmanship and quality of this car. Amazing.Fixed the radio antennae and detailed it. No longer need car so thinking of selling it. Though hard to sell, it's so damn smooth!

      100% original drive train. The suspension components however have been replaced with new components. All new bushings all around and the original air suspension went away sometime in the early 2000's. Replaced it with an coil over set up.

    In the past six months I’ve bought three Lexus LS400s A 92 I bought for $310 fixed in two days with $200, the second was a 93 I paid $400 for, I bought a battery and drove it 30 miles home. put a new throttlebody for $20 perfect running car now, and today I bought a 98 LS400 for $500 drove it 80 miles home, the same day I put two new ignition coils because it had a pretty good misfire literally the smoothest quietest running car in the world. So for under $1500 I’ve got three working and reliable LS400s!!! The million mile Lexus is what inspired me I watched it exactly 6 months ago

    This video is a testament to the fact that *_every rise has a fall._* While they are still reliable as the sun that rises every morning, will outlast everything in sight and are made of some of the highest quality materials known to man, today's Lexus has none of these qualities of "smoothness", "quietness", "refinement" and the "pampering" qualities that made the LS 400 and Lexus of that era, in general, so desirable! Those qualities are DEAD in today's Lexus!
    I own a 2000 LS 400 and that car is going with me to my grave, because I think it is, possibly, the best car ever made, in the universe! The competition has embraced those attributes, while Lexus has gone in a totally different direction, abandoning those core qualities that made these cars some of the BEST!

    i agree with facts and who says you cant compare ? they are cars even in 1992 they were merc 560sel about but in comparison they cant beat a lexus ls400 this is why
    smoothness
    quietness
    build quality
    quite engine
    electrics all work
    reliability
    facts about merc
    noisy engines
    bad gearboxes
    electrical issues
    old engineering
    quality of leather not good
    refinement lacks
    reliability issues get to 50k and you have problems
    so you see my point?

      xjs2 ..never had any of the problems you 've listed on Mercs I ve had..190e..420se..the e320 coupe w124..which I still have had bad wiring loom design which becomes brittle due to it being bio-degradeable..needs to be replaced every 75k and it's not cheap...every button works. .Lexus is better...until LS ..Benz were charging for radios..nevermind stereos..taking us for a ride..Jags were soooo unreliable it's damaged the brand...Beemers were no good either...LS all the way

    Had Lexus paid attention of reviews, perhaps we would see 15k USD used LS400s instead of 3k examples needing maybe a tune-up. The dated electronics make it a sketchy proposition for enthusiasts. But In 20 years who knows what those cheap buys today will bring.

  • @dzava
    @dzava 7 років тому +2

    Well I like the Lexus but comparing the brand new LS400 to the W126 which was already 12 years on the market was stupid. Anyway, I dont think it outlasted the W140 when it arrived. I wonder how was it against the Audi A8 D2 which was new aswell in these days.

      Great points- also the presenter of that segment knew nothing about Lexus I general, the first gen Ls 400 had multi-link rear suspension/struts ay yjr front, not wishbones like he's said in this video...
      The second gen (95-97) had an update of double wishbones at the front...

    You folks seem to forget one thing... these kind of cars are bought mostly by business folk. And NOTHING beats showing up in a Mercedes, like it or not. This is not about Horse power or how many buttons you have on the dash.
    The car you roll up in tells a lot about you and the business you represent. and a Camry; sorry, Lexus, just will not cut it.

      I believe he was talking about in 1989, when this car first came out. He also didn't mention a specific car.
      Now a days, I think the statement is at least partially true. Nothing beats pulling up in a brand new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG or a BMW M3. Lexus doesn't even have anything that competes with the M series or AMG series as far as I know.
