  • The Corvette Sting Ray era in the 1960s had commercials that often highlighted the sleek design and powerful performance of the car. These commercials typically featured dramatic music and emphasized the Corvette's speed and handling.
The 1984 Corvette was a significant model, introducing the C4 generation. The commercials for this Corvette often focused on its advanced features, such as the digital instrument cluster and aerodynamic design. The tagline for some commercials was "The Heartbeat of America."
    C5 Generation (1997-2004):
Commercials during the C5 era often highlighted the car's performance capabilities, with scenes of the Corvette speeding along open roads and race tracks. The focus was on the car's handling, acceleration, and overall driving experience.
    C6 Generation (2005-2013):
During the C6 era, Corvette commercials continued to emphasize performance, but there was also a focus on design evolution. These commercials often showcased the sleek lines of the car and its modern features, including advanced technology in the interior.

The C3 has always been my favorite. Especially the early ones with the chrome bumpers

I like the chrome bumpered cars, but my favorites have always been the '74-'77 with the urethane bumpers and flat back window. I'm not usually a fan of urethane bumpers, but IMO they improve the lines of the Corvette. They are cleaner, and I love the downward sloping design of the rear fascia. It fits the Corvettes body style perfectly.

I love the split window 63s but I have a 74 coupe, a basket case I bought on its 45th birthday and spent 3 summers restomodding it all myself and now drive it to car shows. Pretty good I think for a 50s something housewife! Love the Vettes!

I love those split window '60s Stingray models the most. If I could ever afford one I would be in heaven. Well you know what I mean 🤣

That yellow '74 is my favorite. I used to own one. I now have a white '76. It amazes me about how he goes on and on about the power, handling, and convenience features, and leather seats, like he was selling a station wagon. I own my Corvette for only one reason. Looks. The looks of the '74-'77 Corvette simply blow me away. IMO, they are the most beautiful car ever made, period. The "60s Jaguar XKE and late '70s Ferrari 308 come in a distant second.

The 75 to 82 Vettes are still fairly cheap, and a great way to get into the classic car rhelm. I'm a Mopar guy, but helped a guy restore a 73 Vette that was crashed and abandoned in a farmer's field where it sat for 10 yrs before that farmer pulled it into a barn. There it sat for another 15 yrs. The resto took several yrs but once it was done, it was the 1st Vette I have ever driven and what a treat! As for the commercials, I have seen the 65 offering before, but none of the rest.

'79 L-82 owner. I loved driving it. But it was the most problematic of any car I've ever owned (even a Jaguar). Those lines were gorgeous. That red interior, stunning. Those mechanic bills...staggering!😂

When I was 18 years old in 83, I bought a 78 Pontiac Red Bird.
At the time I bought it, I was told that it was a Limited Production vehicle.
From factory it had a Firebird body and a Corvette power train.
There was a Redbird, a Bluebird and a Yellowbird.
Each limited edition had only 1,500 made during the 1978 year model and 78 was the only year model.
If my memory serves me correctly, the speedometer went to 180mph. The salesman told me that it would do 160mph.
I don’t know if it would actually do 160mph, but I got a speeding ticket driving 140mph in a 55mph zone.
The Washington state police pulled me over in his Ford Mustang 302 V8 with a 5spd manual transmission.
He was super excited about my Redbird. He didn’t take me to jail, but I did get the ticket.
I kept prolonging the court date.
The judge was shocked to say the least.
He was an older man and he told me that when he was my age he had gotten a speeding ticket and the judge cut him some slack and he was going to pass that onto me.
The judge did tell me that if I ever stood before him again for speeding, even if it was for going 5mph over the speed limit, then he was going to throw my ass in jail.
He offered to me to make payments for the ticket.
I asked him how much the ticket was going to cost me. He said, $997.00. I had saved $1K for the ticket, so I paid it in full that day.
At 140mph, the telephone poles looked like a picket fence 😂.
Now 40 years later, if I could drive 140mph again and only have to pay the $997 fine and Not go to jail, I’d do it in a Heartbeat !
From the time I got the ticket to when I went to court, I had sold my beloved Redbird and bought a new Datsun / Nissan pickup, (4cyl with a 5spd manual transmission). I also told the judge what I had done.

Always heard the Red bird was a "spruced up” package for the Esprit. A Corvette power train? They usually came with a 305 at most. Hmmm? I need to look this one up.

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 5 місяців тому +2

@@ThisOldCarChannel mine didn’t have the 305. It did have a 350 in it. I don’t know if it had an engine swap, as I was only 18 years old and the car was 5 years old when I bought it. It showed 60K on the odometer.
