If you haven’t done so already and are still on the original spark plug cables, replace the cables. You can also get an inexpensive inline spark tester that is safer than holding the plug cable end by hand up near a bolt while testing for spark. Glad you got it diagnosed and fixed.
Thank you so much for the video Glen. I have a 2009 115 opti that was giving me problems. I bought the part switched it over and it's been working like new again.
I am sure glad I watched your video. It was going to cost me $184.00 just for the part. Thanks to you I purchased one on Amazon and I’m back on the water. It was going to be a two week wait. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for this!! Im going through the exact same thing. Checked spark plugs first then moved onto fuel filters etc. your diagnosis sounds EXACTLY like what I’m dealing with. Hoping this fixes my issue also.
thanks for the video.. i would like to ask you what problem did it Create and replace it..?? Sometimes it doesn't go above 3000 rpm for me..! It's like it's running out of fuel...
What mine did was it ran real rough and would not go past a slow trolling speed. It didn’t cut off but just seemed like the plugs were not firing. You can check yours to see if they are firing like I did in my video. Check your fuel filter and fuel lines if the coils are firing. Good luck with it.
Thank you mister, I have a 2014 40 hp ,boat does not run full throttle more than 7 miles per hour, changed the prop hub nothing, going to check the coil thank you
Ty unfortunately It looks like Amazon doesnt carry that particular brand, curious if other brands will work as good. I had to get someone else too look at it, because the computer didnt show anything but he told me it was the coil' Good video.
@@edwardfizette9854 well I just checked Amazon as well and unfortunately I couldn’t find that one either but there are several others on there. Check and see if you can find the part number on yours and match it to one of the others and it should work but there’s no guarantee when ordering from Amazon just make sure you can return it if it’s not the right one.
@@hawgsnatcherscatfishing9075 the day my first one went out on me it would hit every now and then while I was working my way back to the ramp. I hope you get it worked out.
An easier test is while it is running, unplug power to each coil one at a time. If the motor doesn't change, that's your bad coil. If it's good, the loss of spark will stall the motor.
To much BS with new motors. The old motors were much easier to work on, rebuild too. Carbs were easy to set. Guess I'm old school and appreciate the simpler things.
James T Boehm I know what you mean, it’s just like cars now you almost have to take them to the shop to get fixed unless you’re prepared to tear them half way apart to fix them.

Great video my friend. Being able to fix your own equipment is it's own reward. Have a great Sunday.
Thanks buddy, I wish all fixes were that easy.

Hey Glenn that was a right easy fix. Tight lines my friend
Yep very easy fix, thanks Mike.

I hope it does, if so it’s an easy fix.
Great info Glen! Happy Fishing!
How is the RINDAS diagnostic system connected to the mercury 90hp optimax for a test? I am having a problem with my engine. very good video
I’m not familiar with any diagnostic test, I just traced it down seeing how it wasn’t firing properly.
thanks for the video..

How long did it last? Or is it still running good? Just wondering if this brand turned out good for you
Been 3 years and still running fine.
@@glennscatfishing thanks for the fast response. I am going home and testing mine today I’m in the same boat I can’t go over 8mph I don’t know why
Hi Glenn, just wondering, didn't your smartcraft gauge give an error code or something that one coil pack was not working? Thanks.
I don’t have any gauges that tell me that. It would have made things a little easier.
Just curious. I’m learning mechanics of an outboard the hard way. When that cylinder wasn’t firing did you notice unburnt fuel left in cylinder?
Honestly I did not, but wasn’t looking for it.
Thank you! Think I got a weak power pack. Looking for clues. This one’s a stumper but only part left to change. Lol 😂

Quality information!!!!
Thanks for posting the video…
Great advice
Hey buddy my dad Mark Thomas is a mechanic for concrete supply co, I was wondering if you've heard of him, he says he knows you.
Hey Justin I do know Mark and I know his dad as well. Tell them I said hello and I hope they’re doing well.
I thought if one pack was out none of the cylinders got spark
I have a coil pack per cylinder so yes the other cylinders do fire even though one does not.
Is this the same concept for a Mercury 200 xr6?
I’m not sure but if it has the individual coil packs I would think so.

Wish me luck, I’m going looking for a pig in the am!!!!
@@glennscatfishing You don't need luck all you need is a body of water with a catfish in it you know how to find the Pigs
