    Can't wait to hear you use the Tone X One in some demo songs and compare it to other modelers and against its big brother. Our worship leader bought one this week and I played thru it Thursday night. I was very impressed. Had a profile of a full rig with all amps, IR's and effects and it sounded glorious. It was actually almost too small 😂 God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸

    For small integrated processors, connecting the USB will use up a bit of processing "power" as the processor has to keep checking what is going on (even if nothing really) on the USB interface. So I'm not surprised that connecting USB causes the rest of the audio processing to slow down a bit.
    These are really useful videos.

    Thanks Leo. A fascinating upload. I have the larger Tonex and do sense its latency. I expected this amazing little version to be similar technically but no. Weird!
    I actually think latency not changing between pedal engaged and not is a good thing: latency is a bummer but at least constant latency is easier to deal with.
    So i'm now thinking of selling the pedal and buying this super-tiny version.

    Thank you Leo, your tests are always very interesting. As the latency of sound through air from speaker to ear for eg 2,5m already is more than 4 ms, these values are very good. The numbers are most valuable when, as you did, different digital devieces are combined. To discuss equipment on the basis of difference in ms shows me that we live in really glorious times :) When I had my first electric guitar and amp I had to think about how to avoid a bent fret and not switching to the bridge pickup because it made your ears bleed :D

    The "Latency Sum Up" is an important metric, as the accumulated latency can make a complex/multi-component signal path an undesirable playing experience. I am sensitive to latency, and that's part of why I use a single Modeler for my guitar tones.

    Brilliant video, thank you for doing this! Your figures come up slightly lower than IK's estimates (3m/s for ToneX, 1.5m/s for ToneX One) - I assume they're being conservative. Low numbers anyway. The only issue really is that because the latency can vary slightly, this can affect the phase when you have more than one and they're running in parallel. I understand IK are working on creating a 'fixed-latency' mode for a future update. I hope you don't mind me quoting your video in my video on the same topic. You're the man Leo!

      @LeoGibsonGtr  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you Jon!
      I measure 3ms for the ToneX pedal with the previous FW...with the last one (1.2.3) the latency seems to have been improved...so maybe they are still advertising the old value. As regards the 1.2 - 1.5...I notice a slight variation according to the profile you use... I have checked out some of them and (but not all)...and the worser one had 1.4 ms of latency...so maybe there is another one with 1.5...nonetheless, as you said, 0.1 ms of difference maybe be just due to rounding....
      No problem if you quote...thank you so much!!!

Nonetheless, maybe there is a way....but I was not able to find it...or maybe there will be a firmware upgrade. In my test, when I switched the pedal off in stomp mode...the latency didn't change...that in my opinion means that the pedal goes still through some A D A conversion.

    Thanks for posting your test results. Take away for me: don't worry about the latency as it's really good, but it's not true bypass - the biggest drawback for chaining pedals. The workaround is putting it in a loop switcher, but that's a bit of a hassle, isn't it?

    Thank you leo! regarding the extra latency when connected via USB: Is that roundtrip latency by using the pedal as interface and then hearing the capture back as we would do using another interface?, I'd like to see how it compares to other popular interfaces by playing captures when using it as audio interface, I think this pedal is great for a travelling rig, I usually carry a travel headless guitar and an iPad and use the iRigHD2 as interface, with this I can use it also as interface and also get the great ToneX profiles on top

      @LeoGibsonGtr  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Alex, you are welcome!!!
      I measure the latency with the padal connected via its analog out...therefore the incremental USB latency shouldn't be related to some signal round trip. Maybe, when connected via USB, there are some more calculations to be done....honestly I don't know....

      @@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks Leo, if you do more tests it'd be great to see its latency as audio interface as I can't find info about it, I'm interested in knowing if it supports different sample rates as audio interface

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Alex, the latency of the audio interface (if I understand correctly what you mean) depends on the power and the buffer used by your computer. That's why it's difficult to provide with absolute numbers, as it depends.
      Thank you!

    • @Alex_Martz
      @Alex_Martz Місяць тому +1

      @@LeoGibsonGtr Hi Leo, thanks for replying again, yes, I know that depends on the computer, I meant comparing this ToneX One to other popular interfaces, for example, the Scarlett Solo 3rd gen at 48kHz and 64 sample buffer has a roundtrip latency of 7.5 ms, that's average for similar interfaces and the higher the sample rate or smaller the buffer the less latency depending on computer power, that's why I asked if this supports different sample rates too as on IK Multimedia's webpage it says USB interface only supports 24bit-44.1kHz

    Could there be any latency added by the PA/monitoring system? I've noticed that some active monitors have these integrated DSP tools (EQ etc)

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  20 днів тому +1

      Hi, if the PA system has a A D A conversion (Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog) for sure they introduce some latency. EQ can be all analog, but if they are done via DSP, thane there is an ADA conversion and then there is a latency.
      Thank you!

    If you are gonna run multiple tonex pedals you should use the big one as all the distortion pedals and the little one as an amp. You can then have 3 pedal options without the extra latency. And if you want to stack, you can just capture stacked pedals.

  • @religionoffreedom

    Fun fact about latency: I can feel super noticeable latency standing right next to a 4x12 cab vs headphones (the same cab miced with sm57)/ Headphones are much faster. The sound sucks in comparison but it is actually unnaturally uncomfortable fast. I can also play without any problems with latency +-12ms (gig performer on a laptop running neural amp modeller/N.A.M.) lol. The sound of a real cab next you even at 75/80db still sounds incomparably godly. You will never match it with anything less than a real thing. When miced? It doesn't really matter/. Digital stuff has almost every other advantage you can think of but it will never sound as good as the real thing (not miced so again... super limited use; in my case it inspires the hell out of me to write a new song). I still have some personal tests to do but NAM with peavey 6505+ profile sounds a little better recorded than my Bugera 6262 but it doesn't produce as much inspiration when building a riff into more riffs and eventually into a song. Still need to test this theory more thoroughly though. I have barely finished my 1st song/

    Frankly dude you have a lot of free time to waste doing such stoopid research and testing over training your guitar skills. Typical hater comment who absolutely doesn’t understand gear IS INSPIRING and help to explore the guitar playing.
    Thanks to Leo to be the most useful and at the same time enjoyable guitar related UA-camr ever ❤

      @@mohitrahaman people, don't feed the troll as it's clear that @mohitrahaman is so frustrated and desperate for attention, let's better go to his channel and roast him on the comment section of his only video where it's clear why is he so frustrated because of his lack of talent! 🤣

      My cat didn't think much of your post. It preferred a bowl of salmon crunchies.
