  • In a dramatic turn of events, the lawyers representing Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, have withdrawn from the ongoing emirate tussle before the state high court. On Thursday, Abdul Muhammed, counsel to the first respondent, presented an affidavit of fact, notice of appeal, and a motion to stay proceedings, urging the court to halt proceedings until the appeal court's decision. The court denied his request for adjournment, prompting Muhammed and his team to withdraw from the case. Hassan Kyaure, representing other respondents, sought to overturn the Kano State Emirate Council repeal law and requested a fine of N1 billion against the plaintiffs. The presiding judge, Amina Adamu-Aliyu, denied the stay of proceedings, scheduling the next hearing for July 18.
