    I just purchased my first 6 inch version of this boot. No breaking period. I’ve always worn red wings. I am not a blue-collar worker, but I love boots. This company might be a new winner for me.

      Hey Rod,
      Can you advise regarding sizing?
      Do they run large? I've been advised to go a half size down.

      @@valentinexyz regarding sizing I find it hard to recommend .. with the Thorogoods I wear a size larger and they fit very comfortably with thick work socks. But this may be different for you so try them on before purchasing if you can.

    In my experience over (much) time the sole will start to crumble from walking on tied rebar and unfinished poured walls. A good thing tho, they can crumble all they want and still remain waterproof whereas redwings will crack instead and that water slips right thru to your socks.

  • @UBRLND-X
    @UBRLND-X 4 роки тому +6

    Nice review. Im all fairness about the soles, they were designed for working on concrete and man- made surfaces all day, day after day on the worksite. basically they were designed to be as comfortable on your feet and back as possible, while still being tough as nails. That being said, these soles are like greased lightning on ice and packed snow just as you have said.

    • @bluegrassman3040

      I’m considering getting pair of these, myself. I work in a Toyota assembly plant, so I’m on my feet for 8-10.5 hours a day. The soles on the Timberland Pro Anti-Fatigue boots seem to want to come off...

    • @UBRLND-X
      @UBRLND-X 3 роки тому +1

      @@bluegrassman3040 I completely agree about the Timberlsnd Pro line. I have had two pairs and while they are great outside and I use them for slippery work, they are ultimately glued on soles and not re- solable. the biggest benefit of the Thorogood is that you break them into your foot and then can keep resoling those comfortable shoes multiple times. I end up using mine as my go to shoes because of how comfortable they are.

    • @bluegrassman3040
      @bluegrassman3040 3 роки тому

      @@UBRLND-X I had to add Dr Scholls inserts to my Timberlands. They are not quite as comfortable than previous pairs of the same brand and style I’ve have in the past. I’m strongly considering a pair of the Thorogoods.

    A good boot is one of the best investments you can make. I was looking to get the exact model as I want the waterproofing. Its either going to be these or the Danner Quarry, but like you my favorite look is the mock toe which the Danner Quarry is not

    Wore Thorogoods for about 9-10 years. Seems like they offer these shoes in these sizes and those boot in those sizes. Meaning every boot is available in "some" sizes. I took the plunge and went total custom and have never looked back. None other can compare to a full custom boot. Try it and you'll agree. Btw, my customs have a slight negative heel ,coming from 10 years of wearing wedge soles I didn't want the traditional custom boot like fire jumpers wear. Every since I switched to custom boots, I wear DARN TOIGH socks. Made in USA and they'll replace them FOR FREE when you wear them out. Get some

    I disagree about those soles being bad on ice. All shoes and boots suck on ice. Its ice. The only way to make it better is to use some of those metal cleat things you can clip onto your boot. Those soles are awesome. My favorite thing about them is that they're easy to clean. I HATE lug soles. You come home from work and you've got mud caked on and trying to clean it off is a pain in the ass. With the soles like the Thorogoods use its dead simple, scrape them on anything, then get them wet on the bottom and walk through grass sliding your feet. Great work boots! The best...

    I was recently boot shopping and looked at thorogoods, but they came off as cheap looking, especially inside. I've bought boots at Kmart that looked better made. Once I found out also they're union made, that completely killed it for me. Enjoy "your" president, unions.

    • @lukecmarcotte
      @lukecmarcotte  4 роки тому

      I would say thats accurate. I generally wear size 10.5 EE. And with the latest pair I bought I realized I could have gone down to a 10 and probably fit a little better.

      Luke Marcotte, thanks for such a quick response and help on the subject. Can’t wait to own a pair of these for myself. I first was looking at just getting a cheap pair of work boots, but after research it seems well worth it to spend the extra money for the quality and protection. They will be my first pair of Thorogood boots!

      @@imbleh3364 Not a problem! and heres the thing when it comes to not just boots but also any tools. I always choose quality. If this is what you do for a career you should take pride in that! Not to mention, a good pair of boots will outlast a cheap pair at least 2 or 3 to 1. I have had literally dozens and dozens of work boots. All of them were higher priced ones and I never regret it... and like you said, you are actually excited to get a pair of these. Thats better than dreadfully buying another pair you dont want.

      @@lukecmarcotte Thanks for the advise, I have just one more aesthetic question about the boots. What is your opinion on the 8 inch vs the 6 inch height. I am leaning towards the 8 inch, but don't have the experience to know the pros and cons of each. I don't want to get either height to find out I should've chosen the other.

    • @lukecmarcotte
      @lukecmarcotte  4 роки тому +1

      @@imbleh3364 I generally get the 8" waterproof for winter time, because its just more waterproof higher up for walking inlet conditions.. But I like the 6" non-waterproof for summer time when wearing them with shorts. If I were buying one pair for year round I personally like the 8" the best. More ankle support and like I said, more protection higher up on the leg.

      @lukecmarcotte  4 роки тому +1

      I have always wore 10 1/2 everything, whether it be red wing or thorogood or any other brand I've worn. Although, If I wanted I could probably fit into a 10 instead of a 10 1/2. But they work great. I also have wide feet and need the EE.
      And these boots work great in the summer. Even when I wear the waterproof ones they are not to hot. But If your up for buying multiple boots like me, I rock the unlined for summer as well.

  • @mad0uche

    High heels are not logger style. High heels are high / medium arch support that divides your body weight onto your feet more evenly. Instead of having all of your weight on your heel and ball the foot stays in a rested position and weight is added to the arch for a 3rd pressure point. Logger style boots and boots that you would want to be on stairs / ladders with happen to have high heels, sure.
