I've been programming beats since I was 15, so nearly 40 years. Started with a Roland 909 and a Yamaha RX15, then moved through everything since. Started playing reggae and dub when I was about 20, both live and programming it myself. All this to say that from my long history of working in the genre your breakdown for doing these grooves in Logic is incredible. Thanks for posting them, keep up the good work.
You explained that [tempo/grid/notes] perfectly. I've never really fully understood reggae rhythms, because of exactly what you described. But now it makes perfect sense, like a lightbulb has gone off in my head. Thanks.
These tut's are a bloody goldmine fella. Another mystery solved for me - I program/play at the same tempo as you here, (65-90bpm) but I was resolving my basslines at the end of 2nd bar, and it just never sounded quite right. Now I know why!! Cheers Dr Dancetech.
Yo breddah bless up in the most high. So I was watching this video and I remember they did a song called Baltimore. I was trying to recreate that instrumental but couldn't get the horn section, and I watch majority of your tutorials and I can't seem to recall seeing an in dept tutorial on reggae horn section, could you please do a tutorial on that please. Or what horn did Sly and Robbie use in that song.
Dear Sir dancetech, as usual the info and teaching is incredible. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial and some mixing tips for dub? particularly effects and EQs and stuff on drums and bass. I don't necessarily mean fancy trick fx, but more basic approaches. It seems like a lots of classic dub producers get an incredible kick sound that is both fat and punchy, and basically beats the crap out of anything i hear in modern electronic music. Can this sound be replicated in a DAW? I was wondering if you knew how they do it! and anything else you care to impart! If anyone else knows any good tips on the web i would be grateful to know.
Dancetech sir, have you ever released any reggae music or played on any tunes we may know? I'd love to hear some of your stuff as you certainly know your onions.
big up from Ethiopia. You sir are one reggae & danchall wiz, i learnt so many things and i shared so many of your tutor to others. Keep it coming,Respect. Finally I've got one request, can you make a tutor on reverb just like you've done on Eq&comp?? when ever it is convenient. again RESPECT

Nice! Can you setup the piano roll to show drum names instead of notes in future videos please? 😊
Yeah sorry about that, I was using MODO Drums and logic piano roll only shows drum names for logic kits
