Also, reducing costs, promoting growth and increasing revenue nets them fat bonuses they can then use to purchase another Porsche, or a new yacht. The interests of the workers and the interests of the C-suite are fundamentally opposed, so they will always pay them as little as they can get away with without breaking the law (and even that doesn't stop some of them - ask Starbucks and Amazon.) It's an adversarial relationship. As soon as they can replace human workers with robots, they will.
