I had both wrx and sti, The sti engines always get respect this car is this raw power monster that likes to go on, the wrx on the other hand is more classy not the shiniest but for sure gold
The US launch STi sounds too raspy, second one with the full can for sure sounds better, which is crazy cuz those old ej25’s with proper exhaust usually sound killer
I wish I still had UEL headers on my 2011 STI but for reliability, Tomei EL headers, P&L motorsports uppipe w/ a turbosmart 40mm ewg, a Cobb downpipe and Tomei Single exit sounds pretty good. We're going straight pipped real soon w/ the motor and rotated turbo build. But if we are going off of these two, I like the raspiness of the 04. Reminds me of my setup before I went E85.
I think the majority seem to disagree? It’s sounds good, just not better compared to the WRX, way too raspy, couldn’t imagine the drone you’d get on highway speeds

06 WRX sounds better at a stand still. The STI sounds better when in motion. Both cars sound mean going through a tunnel or through a lengthy overpass. Both cars are great and reliable even more so than any of the newer WRX’s and STi’s. I own a 2017 WRX, but plan on buying an early 2000’s STi and WRX.
2004 needs a resonator badly to get rid of that raspy sound! 06 has great rumble!!

The 04 needs larger exhaust, 2.5-3" and that raspy crackle will vanish. That 06 sounds perfect.
