Basically the game goes to the company level. Each regiment is made of companies. The American revolution was smaller in scale to the civil war. The largest battle of the revolution had a total of 27000 soldiers.
Yeah its company level, The American revolution a company was about 60 men (without officers), regiment was 10 company's (one light one grenadier 8 line) about 700 men some went as high as 1000 like the scots regiment. The game does 6 slots about 120 men each so two company's. and Great Siege of Gibraltar 72500 was the biggest battle of the war of independence.
My understanding is that the Battle of Antietam from the ACW had more casualties in 1 day than the losses of the entire 10 years of the Revolution. So yeah, the scale matters.
@@fortusvictus8297 my man, the great rebelion down south in Peru , that happened around the time of the US revolution, had about 100,000 casualties, that was just one viceroyalty of spain , and was, well, basically a civil war. it's 4 times the casualties of the US revolution, a concurrent war. I also like how after the 2nd battle of Newport, the British troops regrouped at Middle Borrough to set up a proper army. It seems that this game really forces you to think that your in the POV of the actual general instead of an omnipotent being maneging the entire nation. So that's why maneging the recruited troops of Leciester is so hard since the general was not there to give commands of where to go. TBH, based on this early access alone, the campaign mechanics are already amazing. Although the units in battle could use some banners or general portraits or more means to show which general a unit belongs to make bigger battles easier to manage.

Also, the British are overwhelming in numbers. Just when I thought I had things wrapped up, I had Boston to Ticonderoga, with garrisons in every place, and a floating 2500 man army (2 brigades), with Ustates rifles, and all of a sudden, the Brits dropped of 8000 men at Boston, and tore through the whole map. I lost everything.

great game so far. 1 hint. smaller troops can merge ..you had at beggining soldier under 100 and when select, lets say 2 team you see the icon to merge tham.(if are same )
Something the devs should learn from total war is that unit cards never look alike, which is very important for knowing which unit in this location is in that condition with those numbers have have this much morale. I never used the cards to select units unless I had no idea where that unit was or if I wanted something specific some situations in a siege. But what u did use it for was what I have just described, and becomes more useful when grouped
So Jackie you want how they had the unit's grouped in ultimate General Civil War and Gettysburg (A tag above the units with what Corps than under that the Div's and when you click on a unit it shows what force it belongs to).
Are you kidding me… WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH THEIR MARKETING TEAM? THEY NEED TO GET THE WORD OUT NOW! IVE BEEN WAITING TWO YEARS FOR THIS GAME AND I FIND OUT IT DROPS BY SOME UA-cam VIDEO RECC BY THE ALGO? Installing as I type.
I absolutely love the American Revolution, but I have some pretty major concerns about this game. That depiction of Lexington and Concord is worse than the version is Assassin's Creed 3, which was already a pretty low bar. I am pretty familiar with Battle Road, but I couldn't tell you what any of the landmarks on that map were. There was no big British assault on prepared, or even ad hoc, positions on April 19, 1775. Lexington was 2, maybe 4 companies of Light Infantry rolling over the Lexington Militia. The fight in Concord was mostly at the North Bridge (which I didn't see on the map at all), in which around 4 companies of light infantry tried to hold the bridge against several towns' militia companies. After the British fled the bridge, there was a running battle from Concord back to Lexington. During that part of the day, British troops were trying to move as fast along the road as they could, while being attacked from all sides by militia companies. It is worth noting that at this point in the battle, there were no full British regiments present. Smith's column was composed entirely of light infantry and grenadier companies from the regiments in Boston. When the column reached Lexington, they met the 1st Brigade under Percy, composed of 4 regiments and several cannons. The 1st Brigade formed a defensive position that Smith's column could rally behind, before continuing back to Boston. The closest thing to a British assault that day was light infantry sweeping the woods on either side of the road before returning to the column, and several instances of British troops breaking into houses or inns to kill any armed inhabitants they found (under the assumption they had been involved in fighting earlier in the day). I don't feel like the devs really understand the structure of the British army in North America or the operational practices of the 1770's. I want to like this game, but I don't feel like I can spend $50 on it right now.
No, the battles are not scripted. You fight each battle with what you bring to the fight in the larger map, and you can fight anywhere, any time. And yes, you can zoom in.
I would hope being a plantation family isn't the only backstory to be an American general. I for one would not feel comfortable playing a slave owner. I really am excited for this game but I hope the add more storylines
Not a big fan. British line infantry should have a massive advantage in melee combat due to the fact that British regulars were issued with bayonets. Especially in the early years of the Revolution, US forces (especially militia) generally lacked bayonets. This is why the Americans often broke in the face of British bayonet charges and almost always were defeated handily when the British did close into hand-to-hand combat (don't believe the Hollywood bull). Surprised that this doesn't seem to be well-replicated here and pretty disappointed. The bayonet was arguably the most decisive infantry weapon of the early Revolutionary War.
Interesting, but the great GW was not the eldest child. His brother was groomed to take over the plantation and when he died of disease young GW had to suspend his military career and become a farmer to support the family.
40:30 Isn't it directly setting your army on the battlefield according to what it was set up on campaign map? Cause it kinda looked like it for me, but maybe I'm wrong, I didn't play the game yet.
Jackie this is the revolution, not the civil war. there are no 150,000 man battles in this war. the largest battle of the war was either long island or yorktown and neither were all that large and only a few thousand people fell in the bloodiest battles. to put in perspective more people died during Pickett's Charge than most battles in the revolution or even better, more people died at Gettysburg than Americans died in the revolution from battle several times over.
Really nice, will definitely be getting this game. I was not a fan of gettysburg and american civil war ones due to their graphics style, but they've improved on that so much and this looks absolutely beautiful!
This game reminds me of grand tactician civil war but way better graphics. This game looks pretty good can’t lie. It’s sad total war can’t do something this simple but yet bigger scale it’s hilarious
as a proud member of the greater british empire, I have to admit that the british army wasnt the most powerful at the time. while it was not second rate, it was very much conisdered a secondary issue compared to the Royal Navy. If i had to pick the best army in the world at the time, I would probably go with Prussia.... it wasnt until the 1800s that the redcoats truly becae the best. I also hope when they ask for the british backgounrd they acknowalge that a not insignificant ammount of redcoats were localy sorced units...though the high command were brits though and through
what is a shame about ultimate general is the limited scale of the game and low replayability. they should focus on an entire era and regional setting next
i think you're expecting too much all at once UG started with one battle (Gettysburg), then a series of battles (Civil War). then combined land-sea ops (Age of Sail), now they're tackling real-time 4X including everything they've done in the past as a wise man once said: bro let em cook
Hi Jackie. If you read this, quick question. Do you recommend buying the game in early access? Is there enough game to make it satisfying even though it's only 1 year? Thanks
So this is real-time on the campaign map and real-time battles as opposed to Total War which is turn-based on the campaign map and real-time in battle? But the campaign map side can still be paused too? This seems correct but watching without sound in snippets as I get ready for work can't have a proper look until later. Doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on google though.
I have UG Gettysburg and Civil War so I was so stoked for this. However, why tf did they not drop it on steam?! Is there a key that will transfer over ? Horrible choice on their part.
I think it's a bit of a shame that they didn't attribute the French and Indian War to the personal action of George Washington. It could have been an interesting moment of character choice.
before i purchase this im curious how strict the system requirements are for it as listed on their website. In theory my laptop is woefully inadequate accoridng to their minimum reqs ( i have 8gb of ram, a gtx 1650, and my processor is an intel i5-9300 @2.40 ghz). But it runs Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail well enough. But I guess I'd rather not spend $50.00 on a an early access model until im sure it will work...

@@Grizz-db4ui Ir does open up a bit further north.
this is gonna be miles better then their previous games its insane looking. im definitely gonna buy this when its out on steam or just fully released on another site
If i buy their game on their site will i get later steam key ?
Devs said they cannot guarantee you’ll get a Steam key if you buy now on this platform.
@@keiths8546 really ? that very lame, I'll just wait for a steam version
@@keiths8546looks like I'm waiting then
great game so far. 1 hint. smaller troops can merge ..you had at beggining soldier under 100 and when select, lets say 2 team you see the icon to merge tham.(if are same )
I REALLY hope they have a head to head mode for the campaign map. Would be incredibly fun.
It's been stated that it's unlikely that they'll have mp and if it does happen it wouldn't be for a long time.
Multilayer battles in these games would be great
Looks promising! Just discovered the mod for TW: Empire, Empire 2 and having fun with it. Will keep my eye on this
How is that, man? I wanted to love Empire, but just couldn’t get into it.
Looking forward to the next episode. Nice video, nice game!
I’m picking it up today.
This looks like the best historical strategy in a long time. If this is successful, they have a Napoleon version in the bag.
Squad, company, regiment, battalion, Division.
So is there a communication system between units and armies? Flags? Horns/drums/fife/bugles? Messengers?
Looking good.
i had no idea this was coming out and am glad i didnt have to do the mental waiting game and am so happy i can see it soon
34:10 I doubt it was a bug, you simply had an overwhelming force vs 250 guys or so.
Thanks!
Appreciate it
I absolutely love the American Revolution, but I have some pretty major concerns about this game.
Two questions : Are the battles scripted like UGCW , and Can you zoom in?
No, the battles are not scripted. You fight each battle with what you bring to the fight in the larger map, and you can fight anywhere, any time. And yes, you can zoom in.
I love that they are using the flag of New England
I would hope being a plantation family isn't the only backstory to be an American general. I for one would not feel comfortable playing a slave owner. I really am excited for this game but I hope the add more storylines
There were plantations without slaves.
why would you feel uncomfortable its a game and wants to try and stay true to the time period
As anti-racism alum Robin Diangelo says, you should sit in your discomfort.
You didn’t watch the video.
Interesting, but the great GW was not the eldest child. His brother was groomed to take over the plantation and when he died of disease young GW had to suspend his military career and become a farmer to support the family.
34:30 should be fighting retreats but its a good feature regardless
Looks fantastic. Hope they eventually do something like this for the Napoleonic wars. That would be epic.
These guys from this studio will literally kill the total war licence in 10 years.
Looks awesome. Can't wait for the Empire version
Jackie Fish the best American I’ve ever met.
Been waiting for a game like this on the American revolution.
40:30 Isn't it directly setting your army on the battlefield according to what it was set up on campaign map? Cause it kinda looked like it for me, but maybe I'm wrong, I didn't play the game yet.
Need to tweak the camera to zoom out more. It's going to be hard play when battles gets huge.
The wait is over!
Shame it's not allowed on steam yet.....Looking forward to this, I have over 2000 hrs in UG: Civil War
it seems like they are breaking because they are heavily outnumbered. makes sense
Hey Jackie fish wow much does it cost for early early access? And the ai doesn't look super dumb
$50 USD
Ok Thankyou
"insane volley!" killed one man.
Looks and feels amazing
Can't wait for a more total war setting.
Really nice, will definitely be getting this game. I was not a fan of gettysburg and american civil war ones due to their graphics style, but they've improved on that so much and this looks absolutely beautiful!
I think the civil war one is beautiful in its own way. This one does look great though with the 3d units
Both great games.
This game reminds me of grand tactician civil war but way better graphics. This game looks pretty good can’t lie. It’s sad total war can’t do something this simple but yet bigger scale it’s hilarious
The UI can be better indeed. For the rest im pumped!
This is hilarious because I work in concord right behind the battle road
as a proud member of the greater british empire, I have to admit that the british army wasnt the most powerful at the time.
while it was not second rate, it was very much conisdered a secondary issue compared to the Royal Navy.
If i had to pick the best army in the world at the time, I would probably go with Prussia....
it wasnt until the 1800s that the redcoats truly becae the best.
I also hope when they ask for the british backgounrd they acknowalge that a not insignificant ammount of redcoats were localy sorced units...though the high command were brits though and through
So do you play the game through the website? I have a Mac, so didn't know if I purchase, will I be able to play?
Hope they come with a multiplayer campaign to this game or next game they do.
Oh, many that would be the dream!
what is a shame about ultimate general is the limited scale of the game and low replayability. they should focus on an entire era and regional setting next
i think you're expecting too much all at once
UG started with one battle (Gettysburg), then a series of battles (Civil War). then combined land-sea ops (Age of Sail), now they're tackling real-time 4X including everything they've done in the past
as a wise man once said: bro let em cook
This is gave me Empire Total War vibes.
Those devs have got to make a warhammer 40k game.
One of the only wars in British history that losing was a better option than winning.
Hi Jackie. If you read this, quick question. Do you recommend buying the game in early access? Is there enough game to make it satisfying even though it's only 1 year? Thanks
It is tons of fun but I would say wait no need to rush into it
Thanks @@JackieFishHD
So this is real-time on the campaign map and real-time battles as opposed to Total War which is turn-based on the campaign map and real-time in battle? But the campaign map side can still be paused too? This seems correct but watching without sound in snippets as I get ready for work can't have a proper look until later. Doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on google though.
I have UG Gettysburg and Civil War so I was so stoked for this. However, why tf did they not drop it on steam?! Is there a key that will transfer over ? Horrible choice on their part.
Devs said they cannot guarantee if purchased now that a Steam key would be provided once it reaches that platform next year.
@@keiths8546 thanks for the info. DAMN. That's tough. .
just from the video already can tell American infantry strength beyond unrealistic here
Putting 70 skirmishers up against 240 line infantry. Classic Jackie Fish
Well, it's not entirely historical, considering nobody was raising regiments and marching them to Massachussetts until after April 19, 1775....
If you purchase it now, will you eventually get a steam key once it's available?
I think it's a bit of a shame that they didn't attribute the French and Indian War to the personal action of George Washington. It could have been an interesting moment of character choice.
before i purchase this im curious how strict the system requirements are for it as listed on their website. In theory my laptop is woefully inadequate accoridng to their minimum reqs ( i have 8gb of ram, a gtx 1650, and my processor is an intel i5-9300 @2.40 ghz). But it runs Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail well enough. But I guess I'd rather not spend $50.00 on a an early access model until im sure it will work...
needs to be on steam for everyone to get it etc. but in either case its there.
Willpower ended up as 69. Niiiiiice
In the battle view are the units one to one or is it like 1=5 people?
Looks amazing. Love the simplicity of the UI design. I am a game developer so.
This games so good I finally turned on notifications for you Jackie
iwould love an empire total war version in this stile including the sea battles
Where the hell's the steam version!?!?!?!?!?!
Was going to buy it.....but a bit of a high price point man. I'll wait i think.
