The only item I would HIGHLY recommend for Florida hiking that is not mentioned, particularly in the swampy areas, are gaiters. They keep the sand and muck out of your shoes and will prevent blisters and make hiking more comfortable. I use Dirty Girl Gaiters. $20 and they weigh nothing, plus they are “worn” gear anyway.

Hey girl...I'm a 63 year old retired Railroad worker in North Alabama. You're one of my favorite hiking channels to watch. I'm just getting into backpacking and trying to learn as much as I can about equipment. I have a few items from my camping days but I'm realizing I need to buy lighter equipment. I plan to do part of the Pinhoti Trail when the weather is cooler.
Thank you for all the great hiking information.

I love the regular size of this Nemo closed-cell pad, because I cut the last four squares off of it and that is my sitting pad and front-of-tent pad. Bonus that I can fold it right along with the rest of the pad for carrying purposes.
    A Z-seat is $20 otherwise.

👍 to the sleep pad. Hard to pop one of those, and they're multi-use. Good call with extra tempered lens protectors; saved me countless times. Umbrella seems invaluable against sun, downpours etc. Great rundown Kelly. ✌️

Great video, I was happy to see this pop up unexpectedly. I don't have a gear question, but I do have a Michael Jordon question. You don't seem old enough to have watched and appreciated, so am I incorrect or is there another more interesting story? Maybe add it to another video.
    Thank you for the content.

I keep a load of my survival gear with me when hiking and I wear a 550 pound paracord bracelet since it's good for everything. I also have an Apple Watch Series 5 which has the Explorer watch face in case if I was to forget my phone or the battery would've died and my watch is water resistant up to 160 feet (50m) and I'm currently saving up for the Apple Watch Ultra. By the way I'll be gone on July 7-8 going camping and floating down the river the next day.

Hi Kelly, I am wondering about shoes. I was thinking about carrying a set of water shoes so that I would always be able to change into dry trail runners after the swamp/ water crossings. Would you do your shoes the same way if you were doing it again or take an extra pair?

@@nickhikesinthewoods6150 worth the wait. I know they've gotten better over the last few months. Cost/Quality it's the best pack maker out there in my opinion. Over $100 less than competitors and Mark stands behind his packs 100%
