- Through The City is a fan made sequel to Opposing Force. It aims to connect Adrian's story with Half-Life 2 and so far, things are looking good. The mod is under development and release is quite a bit far from now.
This video goes over the Awoken Demo that was released recently.

The real hero of Shepherd's story, is the scientist who saved him at Black Mesa.
Apparently this mod implies that Dr Kleiner was that scientist, according to 1:31.
@@borico62 nope, its just that the VA for kleiner also did a lot of the scientists in HL1 and its expansions, so they had him voice that scientist again

Having the real voice actors to me gives this a level of legitimacy that gives me a lot of hope!
I like that the citizens actually acknowledge how out of place Adrian is in the world of Half-Life 2, they think he's a threat of some kind.
Unlike Hunt Down The Fremont, Big Mitch just kinda shows up to City 17, and nobody ever questions his appearance or why he isn't wearing citizen clothing.
I love how citizens react to Shepard, like imagine living through the Seven Hour War, or at least hearing about it and then *seeing* a surviving soldier when most are either dead or have been turned into the Transhuman soldiers that now oppress them.

Thanks for the support! Also pipe wrench and desert eagle in the demo are just a re-skins of crowbar and magnum, but they are going to work like in Opposing Force, we already have a working pipe wrench with secondary attack in the game.
Rather than adding a pointless secondary attack, why not simply make it so the less frequently you attack the more damage you do? You can practically copy the code from the pistol
Could the secondary attack have some sort of knockback effect?

@@GarryTale It's pointlessly split-up into a primary and secondary attack, like the pistol was in HL1. The pipe wrench's primary attack is faster but weaker, secondary you charge for an attack that does more damage less frequently. What I'm suggesting is basically the same as having the secondary fire auto-charge. The less often you swing the wrench, the more damage it does.
The guy at 6:33 is in fact (I'm pretty sure) Corey Cruise who voices the Postal Dude in Postal 3, Paradise Lost and Postal: Brain Damaged.

The idea of a stronger version of the Strider is something i always wanted to see, amazing.
i looked at something about a year ago, i searched up strider on google and saw that thing, pretty sure it's called a destroyer.

We have Entropy zero 2 coming out on the 20th, Signal Lost for hl1,
and this in 2023. Very exciting.
I'm especially pumped for Entropy Zero 2. Loved the first one.
Enjoyable little demo, nothing too groundbreaking, but it definitely has a huge potential. Will be following the development for sure!

While the concepts do seem promising -the Shock Troopers are a tad jarring, but it's a similar deal to the Vorts being translated to the style of HL2, though I would've loved the insectoid look-, I really hope they do deliver in the end.
In case anyone is wondering, yes those are juniez HD weapon models from project half life 2 Mmod, which is a very nice touch to this mod giving it some originality rather then using the same old default weapon models
I really like this mod, I really think it's promising!
And I keep in mind that it's a demo, so everything in here is subject to change...
But I think there is still some work to do in order for it to be perfect!
So here is my constructive criticism (not to destroy the team's work, but give them valuable feedback)
The setting is good, you begin alone in this unknown place and wander around, just to find yourself in the middle of a fight with metrocops... However, I think there could be more in terms of world building... There could be some civilians chattering about how there was a big explosion at Nova Prospekt. There could also be some chatter about the resistance beginning to attack the combine forces after this explosion.
It's really important for the player to know where the game is happening in the timeline (without reading the mod's preface) Kleiner's radio chatter is perfect in that field, but i think we just need a bit more of that.
The environments work fine, but do look a bit bland from time to time (empty corridors, simple geometry, lack of props)... I think another art pass could do them justice and elevate them from simple to perfect!
On the Gameplay side, I'm totally following you with the wrench feedback.
Otherwise, everything works perfectly!
I'm really looking forward to this mod and hope it will be a worthy successor of Opposing Force! :)

Wonder if valve will ever adopt this as official canon to Shepards story? That would be really cool if they did!
In a decade or two I could see a cool creative director type guy at valve doing that, once they decide they're not gonna use him elsewhere
@@spyczech considering valve cancelled that half life 2: return to ravenholm game which was going to have Shepard as the protagonist I’m sure they’ll hopefully adopt something else/this fan made game as canon if it’s popular with the HL fanbase once it fully comes out

This makes me so exceptionally happy, City 17 was one of my favourite environments in HL as I generally enjoy urban combat and immersive city environments. So a fan made creation taking place in my favourite HL setting, running with my favourite themes... This is gonna be good.
I think it's a little premature to call this a worthy sequel to Opposing Force. However, I do think that this is shaping up to be the best attempt at one so far. It certainly looks better than Prospekt.
I love a lot of aspects of this! I think the level design is still a little flat and bland at times though, but I believe they will be able to fix this!

Also i have a question. Is the deagle just a straight up different model only replacement or does it have different modes like in the og opposing force?
If not, i suggest that they should add that feature because its what made the deagle so unique compared to other weapons
The giant blue strider model at 6:05 looks insane ! And that it will be bigger than the strider , they maybe are gonna make it a really challenging boss !
This mod reminded me of one of my ideas for HL2's expansion pack. The idea is really old, but maybe someday I'll make it happen.

Entropy Zero to me is Opposing Force for Half-Life 2 since you really are the antagonist of the story.

I am thinking of making an OPOOSING FORCE II comic book series for free. I will be making it in my free time ofc. I already wrote the story. Maybe, if peopel like it they may make a game out of it.

I absolutely love this concept of adrian just being dropped into city 17 and everyone being so confused because this is a soldier from a military that was disbanded years ago
the idea of a US soldier walking around city 17 like nothing is wrong would be such a shock it's no surprise they'd assume he was just another combine at first glance.
I do really hope in some way adrian returns in half life 3 or even hints towards him or chell even (although I'm pretty sure in the lore chell escapes long after the combine are gone, or simply is somewhere that the combine haven't bothered to look, especially considering that aperture is located in michigan and america is literally gone which would explain why it's just fields, the earth has healed after years of being left alone by the combine)

My problem with the fan mod G men is that their dialogue is always just a recycled version of old speeches. Every original speech of his felt fresh and intimidating in a way but it never got redundant.

This is definitely promising. Here's to hoping it continues to improve and tighten itself, and actually push through to release unlike Op4 2.
A few other critiques I have:
-The subtitles need proofreading.
-Skyboxes are strangely empty. They just seem to have the Citadel in them and nothing else; no other city buildings to add some life to the backgrounds.
Both of these are minor but still.
The demo for this is is sooo good, I hope the developer of this get's some extra help since the demo has been released and such

With the retcon that HLA brought I feel it wouldn't be a bad idea for Valve to bring back Adrian Shepard as an persistent antagonist let loose by G-man to hamper Eli and Gordon as they attempt to rescue Alyx.
Probably gonna wait until it's finished before playing it, but I'll definitely keep an eye on the development

@@ieuanhunt552 I think he could mean first person animations, like when he wears his gas mask, or when he's pulled by the citizen into the room. Like how Gordon looks at his hands after wearing the HEV suit or Alyx hugging Gordon in Ep. 1.

Something feels a bit basic/blocky/boring and even nonsensical about the level design (Why is there a small room with a chair inside that place? What is it's purpose?) but it's still one of the better looking Opposing Forces sequel mods out there right now. Perhaps there are revisions to be had in the future.
Also, what happened to those custom animations from earlier builds? The revolver looked great. G-Man's expressions seemed a little more dynamic too.
P.S Why is the combat vest telling Adrian to have a "very safe day"? I don't want to sound like I'm knocking on this mod. The fact it has so much talent in it already is incredibly promising. Just providing some constructive criticism, gonna be playing it regardless! Those animation sequences are really cool and polished!
