We have not has one, if I'm correct, in over fifty years. But anyone from Florida knows that we never get a major storm until October. This season is not close to over.
We had a major category 3 hurricane just last year.. Idalia made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region August 2023. It did reach CAT 4 status in the Gulf but by the time it made landfall it was a CAT 3

This is for the Atlantic basin but one of the factors as I mentioned is related to a northward shifted monsoon trough resulting in easterly waves emerging more north.. the higher latitude waves are bringing in drier air leading to less development in our MDR of the tropical Atlantic.
I predict Florida will go another year without a hurricane. I don't think we've had one since 2020.
Ian was 2022, and there was another one shortly after.
Idalia was a CAT 4 hurricane that hit FL in Aug 2023.. although when it made landfall it was a CAT 3 (still considered a major hurricane) Idalia wasn't a major hurricane (CAT 3 or higher) but made landfall in the same general area (Big Bend) this August
