Thanks Andy ❤ I'm 5' 8" and 150 lbs, not as experienced or fit as you, also 69 years old !! So good to see some comfortable , sensible choices and good advice 👌
"Travel light, Freeze at night!" Words I swear by. I still bring my Sea to Summit Spark SP 3 which is rated to -6 deg. Another great video. Thanks Andy.
A good and interesting video as always. I have watched several cumbria way episodes now, as prep for my charity walk in august. All have been really helpfull in giving an insight into the good, and bad points.
Thanks. I appreciate you going through food as well. I'm looking to start with just a one night hike, then go from there slowly adding to my kit, so it's nice having a pretty comprehensive set list with cheaper bits in there. (I'll likely shop around a bit or make do with what I've got and the extra weight when it comes to the expensive stuff, that said the sleeping pad might be something I'll have to suck it up on)
Was curious when watching your Cumbria Way videos how much your gear list would differ from your recent WHW thru. Appreciate you sharing! Congrats on completing both. You crushed it on the Cumbria Way!
Thanks for sharing Andy, Should be starting next Saturday, hoping for a reasonable weather window, doing it over 5 days as I’ve got my Mrs with me as well, refining the pack today, it’s about 11kg at the moment, I don’t think I can get it lighter than that, will keep trying though 😊
Good info Andy, think I'm down to 10kg without water, but to achieve that pretty much no duplicates or luxuries. My kit now is old and I tend to buy kit on the more durable than light weight. So many times I see hikes that have raided the outdoor shop and take so much then look absolutely miserable when out walking.
Hi Andy amazing load out , just about to order a mo,could you give me more information about the extra side pocket please,,the content on the Cumbrian way was very informative thank you
Have you heard of or every bought from Cumulus? They'er a Polish company that makes a nice selection of sleeping bags and quilts for all types of camping (ultralight to car camping).
@@BackpackingUK I'm in Poland and I've just recently heard of them. I'm probably going to purchase one soon. It's just odd that none of the big channels (I would consider yours big) have never even mentioned them.
@@Obi-Wan_Pierogi There's a blue million gear companies out there and so many of them get lost in the pile if they don't promote heavily. I mean, you're in Poland yourself and even you just recently heard of them. Even when people do hear about new brands they usually still don't want to stray from the brands they already know they can rely on, especially when the new one is coming from some place like Poland. Not that there's anything wrong with Poland, but it's unfamiliar territory when it comes to outdoor gear. They have some good looking stuff, though. I would seriously consider one of those Trenlite jackets if they had a synthetic version.
Hey Andy, thanks again for taking the time to go through your kit in such detail. It helped me enormously when planning for the Hebridean Way. I saw you've got the new Coros Vertix 2S - what are your thoughts on it so far, would you recommend? I'm swaying between that one, the Suunto Vertical, or good old Garmin Fenix.
Nice series dude 👍 Did you get any back neck or shoulder discomfort from using the Mo? Everything I read or watch says how comfy the Mo is... But I can't wrap my head around how it can be more comfortable than something like an Atmos AG50 given all the engineering and material which goes into that back and suspension system.
It’s got nothing on the Atmos. Everyone who buys ultralight gear always says ‘best ever’ or ‘comfiest ever’. It’s a load of rubbish. To be fair, this pack is far better than most UL packs, but it’s no Atmos.
Looking to do the Cumbria Way in start September, but still haven’t purchased a map. Were you satisfied with the Harvey map or are there other (better) alternatives? Thanks for great content and greetings from Denmark :-)
Sounds great! The Cicerone guidebook refers to “mountain” and “foul weather” alternatives along the Cumbria Way. Do you know if these alternatives are also covered by the Harvey map?
Thinking of buying a Zenbivi bed system myself. With regard to your Zenbivi bed. Did you go for the convertible quilt option or the non convertible version? Also which size and temperature rating and size did you choose? I would be interested to hear if you have any regrets from usage regarding these choices? Cheers
Subs are £15pm on a limited plan and £35 for more than you’ll probably ever use! You can cancel anytime though. If I was doing some potentially dangerous stuff I’d take the inReach Mini 2, otherwise I’d take the Messenger.
Hi Andy, exvellent video again. You really help with your advice. I carry my cameras in a chest bag ( go pro, batteries, Panasonic lumix, plus battery bank) but my current bag rubs on my chest and causes pilling of merino tops. Do you think the OMM chest bag is suitable for cameras or would you feel them digging in you? Thanks
Hi Andy, wee question, do you take any medicine with you? I mean with respect to headaches and diarrhea. I have a Helikon micro med kit which I stuff with paracetamol, Imodium, and Dioralyte rehydration sachets. This would be on top of a booboo and blister kit. On account of its tiny size, this med kit can fit easily into a shorts or trouser pocket.
@@BackpackingUK Got any 75% off codes? haha I've just designed a wicked pack, but this is soooo out of my budget at the moment. Damned Polish economy keeping me down :D
So I would give a wide berth to a Chinese web site that sells tents stating that at 915 g the tent is lighter than 2 bottles of 500ml water. That would defy the whole of the metric system.

More important is what you sleep on, than what you sleep in😉 Weight kills all the fun imo, ideally would like to roam free naked🤷

Brilliant load out Andy , love your new pack ,

It’s called an avocado pocket. Just bear in mind is suits 12kg and under!

What size sea summit evac bag is best for the zen bivey is it the 5litre ?
Not sure, I use a bigger bag so I don’t compact it to within an inch of it’s life!
Thanks so much, that will be the 8 litre then I think .. thanks for all your amazing content

Mines the standard Light Bed 25 degree. I wouldn’t take it past zero degrees but it’s great for 3 season use.

0:53 Hi Andy , would you recommend these for the WHW ?
Absolutely! Salomon X Ultra 4's. Go half a size up for the WHW.

I often take a lifesystems nano or micro first aid kit with added paracetamol and ibuprofen and compede.
