I own a 2010 VMAX 1700. I love it and I race it at the Drag Strip regularly. My current best time in the Quarter mile is 10.6 seconds at 130 MPH. This incredible machine goes 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds 😮love this second generation Yamaha VMAX 1700🙏🏻🤙🏼💪🏽❤️💯🔥

I own a 94 first Gen vmax. It was heavily modified in Texas. I believe the motor has a big bore kit. It's the scariest bike I've ever owned.

I had a friend that was going to get one back about then. He took it for a test ride and came back. Didn't say a word, gave the key back and got back in his truck. His official reason was it was too heavy. I had told him to keep it under 6k. I'm sure he took it above 6k and messed himself.

I have owned a gen 1 V Max for 14 years. Quite modified with Diversion wheels, Hagon shocks, Racetek fork internals, frame stiffening mods & blue spot callipers & brake master cylinder &, flatslide Mikunis. Goes like sh1t off a chrome shove. I love it above every bike i have ever owned. Although a Yam OW31 is pretty much on a par but that was years ago in Ulster. Which, may explain the madness lol.

One magazine editor described the 1st Gen as a "human swatter" for the fact that the front wheel would lift in any gear with just a twist of the throttle above 6K rpm.

He said there wasn't a "proper muscle bike prior to 1985".
I'm good with proper! Lol The Vmax is definitely proper!
My V65 friends were all sad too when they realized they were riding improper machines and quickly switched over to Vmax!
My 1982 KZ1100 ran 10 second quarters but just wasn't quite proper either. It's aesthetics bro! Lol

Whoever wrote this has no clue what they are talking about. It didn't "pioneer" the class; neither was it the "first". The Kaw 900 eliminator came before, the v65 magna came years before, th honda cb900, Honda cbx, plus a few others. Sure, the vmax was/is awesome, but's let's try to tell the truth... The Vance and Hines exhaust/carb kit for my v65 made it almost as fast at full rpm, but the vmax had a much more torquey bottom end so it was easier to manage. The main advantage the v65 had was, it was 200 and something pounds lighter which caused another issue. The front end was difficult to keep on the ground at full throttle. (I weighed about 145 lbs then lol)

BOOM💥 I still have a Honda Sabre v65 . It held the title of worlds fastest production motorcycle from 1983 to 1985. It could hit 155mph . It was the first production motorcycle to break into the sub 10s in the quarter mile ridden by racing Legend PeeWee Gleason. You can find the v65 commercial everywhere . For some strange reason people want to write their own Story and erase History.

Those numbers are OK.I'm a German we're used to that. I had a slightly pimped Big Bandit. 138HP @ 200 Kg naked as well. But driving on the Autobahn with 265 you get a stiff neck.
And the wind is forcefull when you sit strait. The V-max would be good enough for me today. Or a 1995 speed triple 900 would be just fine for me. More speed? What for?

I had a 71 Norton Commando that would top out at 160 mph. Stock! Haha welcome to the BS comment section.

European standards aren't world standards yet emission values are stupid, what about other stupid engines emissions like power plants etc...

Wrong the 1st muscle bike was the 1983 Honda V65 Magna not the Vmax

With 116 hp the Manga was way more powerful than its competitor. But the V-Max is still considered as the first proper muscle bike.

The 1952 Vincent Black Lightning 1000 cc v twin. How about the Curtiss v8 from 1908.

The Magna was fast, but the VMax is in a whole different class. Kawasaki tried competing with an Eliminator !000. Used the Ninja 1000 motor. Still could not hang with the VMax.

Wow. And I thought the ZX11 sat-the-throne as the biggest/baddest/fastest of all time. And just when the we thought it couldn't get any better Yamaha improved the breed, but leave it to stuffy, wet-blanketing Europeans to hide the punch bowl.
