The grind is comforting. The problem with modern games that have grinding is that it's sometimes intentional to make you spend on micro transactions and gacha. Dragon Quest makes it so fun and never painful.
Seeing as how your Dragon Quest 5 playthrough was grind-free, I am excited to start playing these. Now I'm excited even more seeing as the grind in the first game has a fun and purposeful loop to it.
Dragon Quest 1 was the first jrpg I beat a year back and I’ve played many more jrpgs and I hated grinding in all of them, but for Dragon Quest 1 I loved it. I was literally addicted for a weekend. I don’t know why the grinding was so much fun and more enjoyable compared to other games. I really loved the simplicity of the game. Only having one party member made you focus on yourself and kept the game less complicated. Overall a really great game and a refreshing experience compared to the convoluted gameplay mechanics in newer jrpgs. It really felt like you were on a fantasy world adventure all by yourself.
I think every grind can be fun aslong as it isnt reliant on RNG or insanly long. Every level up/gear up is in graspable reach and u always gain EXP and Gold meaning u progress with every fight. Other games could easily do that too but its a lost art

I just started playing this on the Switch and I agree! The grind feels fun and natural, never getting in the way.
