Thank you, Jak for talking about Pursuit Force. I played the shit out of that game as a kid and I'm so happy it's been ported to PS4/PS5 recently too, alongside with trophy support, which especially makes me happy.
I actually played the sequel and had an absolute blast with it, also on the same system, Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron and Ape Escape On The Loose are highly underrated very fun to play, with Elite Squadron holding a special place in my heart cause it felt like the true Star Wars Battlefront 3 us Star Wars fans have been begging for years. All in all would love to play some Pursuit Force again along with Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, that's the one game I want to see ported on the PSN, at least the PS2 version if not, the PSP version will suffice.
Wait what??? It has a ps4 port???
A lot of these games I actually still own & tried out today! Split Second was an amazing racing game that had huge potential, where it not for Disney pulling the plug on it. Rocket was a childhood oddity of mine, could never beat it, but the Boardwalk roller coaster & carnival mini games I always loved. & Pursuit Force just came out for PS5 & it’s amazing how well it goes with fast pace action & gameplay. It even fixed the framerate being on much more powerful hardware emulating it! ❤❤ Great video all around! ❤❤
Hi Jak! Just letting you know we all appreciate the effort you put in your videos. Met your channel through the "reviewing every x" series a while back, and have been following ever since! (even if I don't comment a whole lot lol)
The topics you talk about and how passionate you are about them surely puts you amongst my favorite video game reviewers in the website. You inspire me a lot!
Cheers, from Brazil! 🇧🇷
Always a treat to see Jak when he's back
While a few of these games aren't particularly in my interest, I may eventually come around and try them out, because there have been times where I stepped outside my comfort zone (those being Devil May Cry, Onimusha, and Kingdom Hearts), only time will tell when that could happen.
Also, it's always nice seeing the more underrated games get the spotlight they deserve.
3:20 - Impossible Creatures was a fantastic game. Such a twisted idea, but enjoyable game.
Man, Prince of Persia 2008 was such a good game. It gets slept on nowadays because it came out literally as the Assassins Creed Mega-Franchise just began and wiped away anything that wasnt Assassin/Templar related to this very day.
Omg! I just played both Pursuit Force games very recently! Try the second game, seriously it's FAR better.
What makes the second game better? I was thinking of getting one of them
Pitfall the Mayan Adventure is the Pitfall game I had when I was a kid. Its a cool 2D platformer and I remember the animations being really smooth and we'll animated. I don't know if it holds up but I did really like it as a kid.
Sometimes I forget how small of a channel this is because honestly dude you've done such a great job on the editing since I found you like 3yrs ago that it puts multi million subs accounts to shame
Happy to see you back in action man! One of the few gaming channels of this style I still keep up with. Most creates get boring after watching, but I've always enjoyed your style. It's authentically you, always... which I love! Keep it up dude!
Pitfall was sorta referenced in the first Ultimate Alliance game. I'm one level a villain traps you into an arcade machine and whichever hero you pick replaces the character in Pitfall
Spider-Man friend or foe was soooo fun, being able to play with villains as your bros was great
I picked up unholy war on a whim used for pretty cheap as a teen, this is the first i've ever heard anyone else talk about it. The Prana bites well about it's weight class, and the map was neat.
speaking of Pitfall 1 and 2, I spent most of my time trying to complete it when compiling shaders on Black Ops Cold War playing it with it's built in classic games
I think Future Cop LAPD on the PS1 needs more love
There was a time when I played War of the Monsters everyday after school. I would make up my own versus scenarios or just destroy every building in the maps. One thing that bothered me to no end was that there was a Sweet Tooth skin for Agma that you could only unlock if you had a save for Twisted Metal Black, which I didn't own. Thankfully the PS4 version unlocks it by default.
If you haven't done so yet, you should take a look at Dishonored and Prey (2017), these games are by the same studio as Deathloop and share a similar design philosophy.
Prey, especially, is possibly my favorite game of the 2010s.
I remember staying at an older cousins out of town as a 10 year old and they let me rent one game from blockbuster. Yes blockbuster. And I chose war of the monsters. Great game.
One game that I'm surprised doesn't get talked about, that's in a similar vein to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, No One Lives Forever is probably one of the more underrated FPS games out there. It should be in the conversation though, in my opinion.
Split Second. Before you explained it i totally thought it would be a racing game where you have 1 or a few seconds maybe upgraded over time to redo parts of a race maybe you hit a car so you use some of your time to rewind and retry? Then i realized that might already be a game xD if its not i need it!
I'm surprised you didn't mention Blur on the Xbox 360! That's a really great racing game that is like Mario Kart but with real cars in a more realistic world but arcadey physics and gameplay. It was so underrated :(
Thanks for the recommendations, super eager to try out Pursuit Force as i've recently built a small PSP library. I'd suggest Moho/Ball Breakers on PS1, where you play as robots who get their legs chopped off, replaced with a gravitational ball, and enter a death tournament containing obstacle courses, and other crazy stuff. It probably has some of the best environment hazard features.
Overlord is a Pikmin style fantasie game where you play as a resurrected bad guy who uses his minions to kill the heroes who killed him and to conquere the land. It's for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Idk I just felt that game. I recommend giving it a try.
fuck yeah, i remember getting war of the monsters as a birthday present as a kid. legendary party after
Ah Sucker Punch. I love their games; Sly Cooper is a fantastic series of platformers that really stood out from fellow PS2 heroes Jak and Ratchet. inFAMOUS was my introduction to the company and I love those as well! Even though I haven’t played much of it, Ghost of Tsushima is great. Sucker Punch has got to be one of Sony’s most consistent developers.
8:15 so that's where the sound effect in your intro's (old videos) came from
Great video once again! Gotta get on some of these soon! Thanks Jak!
Of the games listed, I only played Apocolypse so far. Got that game because it had Poe in it. Was a pretty good game.
Do a video on Crusty Demons for the PS2. Its right up your alley with plenty of frustrating moments, game breaking mechanics and horrible controls. Its basically THPS on dirt bikes.
Heres some underrated games, I adore with a passion:
Soviet & Nuclear Strike PS1
The Mummy PS1
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist of the Roses PS2
007 Nightfire PS2
Driver 3 PS2
Tron Evolution PS3
Alien vs Predator PS3
The Order 1886 PS4
I still don't understand why Driver 3 or 007 Nightfire were underated titles...I played/experienced both of them and I loved them all the same.
@9:10 the way he said "ultra retro gaming" would have hurt my feelings if i was a little bit older.
Lol, I just picked up both Pursuit Force and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow on PS4. I hope they also add: Resistance Retribution, Killzone Liberation, Coded Arms, Ghost In The Shell, and Medal of Honor too.
Always passed up on Apocalypse, gonna pick it up when I next see it! Looks so fun 🙂
Atari huh? I played one a handful of times as a kid and remember loving it, i had one for a small period of time. Maybe ill get into some Atari games, i like physical media and the idea of playing some atari sounds fun. Have a good one bro
8:23 LOOK ITS RIGHT THERE!
Fighting games? I've just being through one on the PS2: the fighting minigame "Fists of Fury"(/Ultim-ape Fighter) from Ape Escape 3.
Featuring monkey Jackie Chan with a funny nose. An absolute masterpiece.
I've really got to recommend PS4 launch title Knack. Knack is seriously underrated and the sequel is AMAZING!
Great video. I love these type of games that maybe weren’t amazing but were fun. Do we all remember fun!? I would like to point out Road Redemption, Blur, Roadkill, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
Went through my churches game collection and found unholy war. Which I find to be hilarious for a churches gaming collection😅. Then I found this video! Might try it out now. Thanks!
Hmmm, a place of worship has an unholy digital demon hiding in it's backroom... sounds like someone hasn't been following the Bible. It's pretty interesting to hear such a story; my local public library had old Mac/Windows PC video games for sale plus some educational titles as well.
BROOOOOO THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT UNHOLY WAR THAT SHIT IS SO GOOD
I still dream of the day you review Okami, the best game that was never played
i have played Pursuit force 1 and 2 via PPSSPP emulator its alot of fun i also played Split second via emulator as well and then there is spider man friend or foe i played the DS version
Well. I actually played a lot of Pitfall, the that in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance video game :)
Edit + add on: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is my actually my first video game that i've ever played!
When you were hyping up the PS4 game, I was sitting here expecting it to be Gravity Rush, especially when you said underrated. Deathloop is fine too, I guess.
I just bought a ps vita I think you should do a series reviewing the entire catalog
Deathloop is fine. But once you solve the conundrum on who to kill on what part of the day, there's really not much a reason to replay it once you finish. But that's just me.
I still recommend Brutal Legend to this day b/c this game is a true love letter to heavy metal and deserves a sequel! Just tolerate the RTS sections and you're gold.
Anyone who loves RPGs, especially JRPGs, should play Chained Echoes. It's a love letter to Chrono Trigger and many SNES RPGs of its heyday.
Another I will recommend is Eastward, a very Earthbound-y game that is somewhat a cross with Earthbound's art style with Legend of Zelda gameplay.
One more for the night, Freedom Force and its sequel, Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich. If you love superheroes and CRPGs, this is a great blend of both.
These games look fun. The only one I've played is War of the Monsters. By the way, I wanna steal your hoodie/jacket.
I remember playing war of the monsters as a kid with one of my best friends that game was so much fun it wasn't super amazing or anything like that but it was just good Unwind your brain fun.
How good is War of the Monsters! Spearing your friend from the other side of the map using an antenna and then setting off an earthquake or tsunami to further humiliate them XD
Otherwise I've never played or even recognised the rest... I hope you played Urban Chaos as another more obscure good police game. Sadly I have Perfect Dark on N64 but never got around to finishing it :3
Retro games - heard of pitfall, surprised you didn't mention Atari classics like Frogger and Asteroids, otherwise I got into Joust at uni on the 360 as another absolute banger!!
Wild 9 is another PS1 classic alot of people missed - it got hard/annoying but it's still pretty cool :) plus honourable mention for Team Buddies and Hogs of War if people are looking for great things to play :D
With PS2, I always feel disappointed that we never got a sequel to Psi-Ops as it fell into copyright issues, that game was way ahead of it's time! Though my all-time favourite PS2 game goes to Timesplitters 2
Psi-ops was such a good game. Criminally underrated.
I find it funny how the way i found out about Pursuit Force was through Matt McMuscle's video on it thought I would never have the chance to play of course Sony released it on PS5 and so far its been a decent game definitely gonna have to try some of those other games except Pitfall 3d had it on ps1
*The last time I slept on games, fucked me back up, bruv.*
Hi Jak. Can you please review Ribbit King sometime? I know it may be pretty weird, but it was a classic to me.
I have always wanted to see you try out “tai fu- wrath of the tiger” it’s a Ps1 game that’s pretty much a hidden jem made by dreamworks and the people who made king fu panda , fun fact this game is where kung fu panda originated from lol and the soundtrack is dope 😅😂
I love split second!
Funny you mention deathloop, I just beat the game today. It's not as good as Prey or Dishonored in my opinion, but it's a good game that I also recommend others try.
If I may suggest a few hidden gems of my own:
-Custom Robo (GC)
-Threads of Fate (PS1)
-Onimusha 3: Demon Siege (PS2)
-102 Dalmations (PS1& DC, criminally overlooked platformer)
-Transformers (PS2, Criminally overlooked. Nothing to do with the films)
-Brave Fencer Musashi (PS1)
-I Ninja (PS2)
-Baiten Kaitos (GC)
-Tomba (PS1)
-Timesplitters Future Perfect (PS2)
- Binary Domain (PS3)
- Lost Odyssey (X360)
-The Suffering (PS2)
- Muppet Monster Adventure (PS1, Another forgotten platformer)
-The Thing (PS2)
Some classes games for sure
Love the new video :).
No love for Pitfall The Mayan Adventure? Wow
War of the monsters is so fun!
Pursuit Force was awesome
You can play Pitfall while waiting for a match in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War!
I see Kaiju and Tokusatsu people in my games
I'm in!
Great games! :)
Could you review the simpsons hit and run? Ive been waiting for 5 years for that review
I do like recommendations 😊
The Legend of Dragoon i feel like isnt talked about much.
its a PS1 turn based JRPG released in the 1999-2001 range (depending on your region) that has a combat system that i dont think has been replicated since.
there are 3 graphical looks in the game, there is the overworld running around minimalist graphics that did NOT age well. then there are the updated models for combat, then there is sick ass high quality (at the time at least haha) cutscenes that probably take up most of the disks space.
the game isnt terribly hard or anything, no need to grind levels/gold really and using the Guard action can trivialize some fights or help recover your teams HP without using healing items
its one of, if not my favorite games of all time and i will never not recommend it
ROCKET ROBOT ON WHEELS!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Death loop is fun
14:30 I played this recently and its the tits
Deathloop confirmed that i dont like Arkane games. Really didnt enjoy it.
Are you still constipated?
Sheeeesh i remember friend or foe, used to no life it wity my bro before getting bored if 100% it. Pretty mediocre, idk about the other games on this vid but this one? Mediocre af, idk if i said this here before, probably have since i spam it q lot, but the "fun with friends" excuse isn't really that good of an excuse. Getting beaten to death or being reaped with friends might also ve fun, ok maybe not so much but the point is ANYTHING is fun with friends, weather it's good, boring or garbage. The endgame section of friend or foe was pretty sick though, definitely NOT worth the amount of repetition and brain-dead gameplay you'll have to endure in order to get there. For all Spidey fans literally the only games you need are Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man, timeless classics on PS2. Neversofts Spider-Man and Web Of Shadows (PS3 good lord) might be worth kt to but idk never played em or at least not much. Insomniac's Spider-Man hit different for me, it felt like a Spider-Man 4 if you forget Otto and Norman are alive lol, it mostly felt like Spider-Man 4 to me because of the ending. I don't think i would EVER have felt the way i did without ever watching the only 3 good Spider-Man movies in the 2000's (if we exclude Into The Spider-Verse...which we shouldn't, ok 4 great Spider-Man movies) same wity 90's and Spectacular Spider-Man...Man i can't wait for Insomniac's Spider-Man 2. They already improved so much with the Miles Morales game dude i can't wait, i pray that the web slinging won't bore me to death as fast as their first 2 Spider-Man games though please, it's been 20 years, how hard could it be to copy paste and expand on Spider-Man 2 PS2? Why did i type all of this? I'll just go back to drinking i guess lol, cheers mate great vid
First. 🥇
You seriously collect PAL games? 🤮
He's Australian, so yeah?
It's cheaper than importing NTSC
@@rjmario2234 but is it worth the 5-10 less frames?
@@davidbronstein2040 so am I but I only play NTSC games like a normal person
He’s Australian man Not just that but him and I can’t even play US titles So your comment is very stupid
Nice!
You still keep in touch with Alec and Aiden?
I played Pitfall 3D for the first time last year and it really took me by surprise. It has tight controls, great level design with a ton of checkpoints, and fun voice work from Bruce Campbell. I would recommend the 99 lives cheat though; I died quite a bit in the late game.
Bruce Campbell voice over ?? I’m sold
I love _Rocket_ and _Split Second._ They desperately need more attention. And I've never heard of _War of the Monsters_ before, but it looks like something I would love to try out. Thank you so much for the suggestions. I hope your last video helped you feel better.
As a PS1 collector, quite surprised to learn about 'The Unholy War', never seen it before at all. And absolutely picking up Apocalypse.
Both good calls, you're gonna have a good time with them
A really underrated game (imo) is the PS1 title Running Wild. It's basically a racing/running game with various animal characters. Surprisingly addictive and fairly challenging.
There are two games I have to mention that are barely talked about nowadays. Two of the greatest movie licensed games ever made by Eurocom and Visceral Games. 007 Nightfire and 007 Everything or Nothing. These games are absolutely fantastic, and still loads of fun to play today.
Nice. There are 3 games I'm curious to hear your opinions on being, Cuphead, Pac-Man World Re-Pac and Klonoa 2.
Yeah, dude, Split/Second! Fantastic game, very creative. The TV show framing device really sets the mood, which is supported by the amazing soundtrack. Definitely deserves to be played!
A game I wish got more attention is Haven: Call of the King. It's not a great game, but the sense of scale is amazing, and the idea of a Jak & Daxter style game that seamlessly spans multiple planets has so much potential. I hope it gets done justice someday
Yessss Split/Second!! One of my favourites. Very unique game, and this is oddly specific but I adore how clean the HUD is in it haha
Spy vs. Spy (2005) is a banger completely slept on by the larger 6th Generation titles and fans of that era as a whole. It was basically my Goldeneye 64 as a kid.
I think your channel is really slept on. Keep up the great work, Jak, and I hope you get the recognition for your effort.
This is a tall ask, but would you consider doing a showcase for the games you have? Just a suggestion.
The minute you mentioned split second you got a instant sub from me!!!
Thanks a mil for mentioning Pitfall 3D as not many do (and I'm still wishing for NitroRad to look at it)
I also recommend Pitfall The Lost Expedition, it's a bit more Metroid-y if you're into that and there's a cheat code for a retro skin
13:30 I used to love this game as a kid but I tried to play it again now and I hate it! It's so repetitive and it over stays it's welcome a bit
Great video as always!
Pursuit Force was recently added to PS4/PS5 which is cool. Returnal is a game that I haven't played, but I've heard lots of great things about, so I think it's worth a look. It's availabe on PS5 and PC.
Binary Domain, Darksiders 2, Remember Me and Mark of Kri are all horribly underrated games
Glad I wasn't the only one who mentioned Binary Domain. That game was good.
A lot of interesting games, most I have heard of, some I have played, some I will play next or want to at some point but don't have on me/the consoles for them (N64, sure a local N64/OG Gameboy and the shell accessory that's massive with benefits but no games of a certain sort near them so not worth it to buy them besides well emulating some if need be), some not ever heard of mostly the beginning two. Don't care for PS5/Series X I have access to them but I don't play games on them I still to my PS4/Xbox One/Switch and older right now.
The first two seem alright the strategy mode interests me.
Split Second and Blur are underrated games of their time and have a cult following for a reason but the genre was going down hill then. I recommend Blur as a real cars kart racer that's way better than Mario Kart. Also The Club for an arcade but not old school but modern shooter it's a lot of fun. Even then Fuel is an interesting arcade racer too.
Ah Pursuit Force glad they put it on PS+ what a duology of PSP IPs that deserves to continue but I haven't played it but know it's greatness. Very underrated Sony IP.
Rocket. Yeah it's great. Not played it as don't have an N64 but very good on there of course. But I prefer it and other platformers then Mario 64/Banjo. Yeah seen both Nitro Rad and I think yours already so oops. XD the mechanics from early platformers are great the third parties are more interesting on N64 to me. I do wonder what Sucker Punch can do about it licensing wise?
Not Pitfall for sixth gen the Metroidvania but the PS1 entry is pretty good and the original 2 2600 entries' are fun still from what I have experienced. Love the sixth gen one and want people to do reviews on it because it's odd to see a game like it at the time especially compared to Metroid Prime 2. I played the 2600 entries in Pitfall Lost Expedition/Big Adventure with cheat codes so yeah seen the many screens and also got the idol at the end not all treasures I think.
Even Prince of Persia SNES is good in Forgotten Sands on Wii (yeah not talking the PS/360 versions being different).
Yeah Castaway I played on PSP then sold it but bought the Wii version literally recently. XD I will get around to it soon but finishing Pikmin and Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands before I go to Sims Castaway and Sonic Unleashed on Wii.
Friend or Foe hmmm. Yeah the PSP version seems alright not play the console version. I did the PC version with a friend at one point but otherwise only own the PSP version still. It is awkward to play at times but yeah played it singleplayer. Never sold it.
Of course Apocalypse had to be on the list. XD PS1 games are interesting but yeah many legacy sixth/seventh gen shooters really are strange with so many competitors from the well known the less known are all hit and miss.
Perfect Dark is fine. Not played it much. Then again it's like Banjo it's well known though. Assuming Winback or something instead. Played other shooters I prefer personally.
Deathloop never heard the memes. It's fine. It's a fine approach over Dishonoured, Hitman and others even the repeating focus I don't know if it is as smartly designed as people say having not played it but I didn't hate it doing an interesting direction.... Arkane makes good games sure I won't deny that. I mean I play Pikmin so time management and direction is important for some games. I don't care for stealth and it's not my kind of game but would I say it's bad not in the slightest. I don't care for it personally but I still know they make good games that don't sell well and got sick of the trailers for it for so long when it wasn't released. So don't think I won't respect it because eh like some people I just know from Dishonoured already.
A game series that doesn't get much praise anymore, or even attention, I've gotta play the first two, but Ty The Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan is a hecking blast. Surprised that other than Nitrorad, nobody in the bigger youtube universe talk about the series
16:00 seeing as you like Perfect Dark so much, are you excited for the new game that's in development 👀?
Tombi! 1 & 2 on the PS1 also known as Tomba! 1 & 2 in North America are awesome platformers I’d also recommend you do not sleep on, awesome gameplay, music and the graphics! Also deserving a 3rd game sequel in my opinion!
OMG FINALLY I REMEMBER COMMENTING YEARS AGO please do a vid on war of the monsters! This is close enough that game was wayyyy ahead of its time one of my childhood classics I remember playing the ps2 demo over n over again until I got the game cause literally nowhere sold it 😂 the final boss still gives me problems to this day 😂
I don't get why Split/Second isn't talked about more, it's really great - controls great, and the explosives system is unique. IIRC it came out literally a week before Blur, and at the tail end of the arcade racing onslaught, so I guess that's why it's overlooked, which is a shame because I was ready to throw myself behind the title with open-world racers becoming the norm, which I just didn't enjoy the same as racers with unique dedicated course maps.
Great video and a few really great games.
My recommendaitions would be: Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver (which technically was in this video, I think I played the Demo on the Unholy War disc more then the main game), Gundam Battle Assault 2, Power Diggerz and Ghost in the Shell (all PSone).
