My mother owns an old singer 241-12 industrial that basically has 2 speeds stop and GO! It's blindingly fast. She used to use it for replacing zippers in workpants in her alterations business. It's amazing how "basic" this machine looks yet packed with technology not even seen on expensive domestic machines. Love it!
Hello. Thank you for such a well done and informative video. I’ve been researching Sailrite and other machine for over a year. Your video is one of the most helpful non-Sailrite Company videos I’ve seen, and I’ve watched a lot of videos.
That's awesome. It's now been a little over a year and I still love my Fabricator. They like oil for sure, and it takes time to learn tension settings but once you know how yours likes to work it's like butter. Best of luck, hope you'll join more videos with us.
It’s nice to have the built in help. I tell him it’s why I married him but there are a lot of reasons…lol but I have to say that’s one towards the top of my list 😂
I had to sell my Fabricator because the knee lift caused a lot of pain in my arthritic knee. I have since bought the Sailrite LSZ-1. It works well for me.
I can see how the knee lift would be an issue. I had to buy a special chair because it was causing shoulder issues. But now with the new chair it is fine. I know a lot of people like the LSZ. So far I’m happy.
Really glad I came across your video. I thought I wanted a juki 1181 but now I’m leaning more towards a fabricator. I’m a hobby sewist for now but getting more into bags with heavier vinyl and stuff and I think this is the way to go! Having a mechanically inclined husband will be a huge plus 😂
Yes! I am so glad I went with a Fabricator over a Juki. Not anything against them just that for our needs and my personal likes of type of sewing I think it’s been the best choice. Also, Sailrite and the Sailrite groups are so helpful!
All great info, thank you. I have not broken a Posi Pin, but it does pop out frequently. I also hear the “clanking” and so appreciate the video link. I too thought I had watched all of the Sailrite video’s, but obviously have not. I love the machine and am excited to do so much more with it, but right now, I know some adjustments need to be made and am afraid to do much more than I already have. You’ve given me a place to start with the information here, thanks again!
You’re welcome Pam. If you really need help I highly recommend calling their customer service and asking to work with a tech. That was very beneficial.
I bought a pack of syringes on Amazon with needles, for the price, excellent for dropping small drops of oil into the machine and on the hook area. Also easy to refill.
Hi, just got my New Sailrite Fabricator. I gotta say Im a little intimidated by it as Ive never had an Industrial or sewn on one....my question is Thread? Since you are a sister BagMaker I thought you might have some good advice on where you buy yours & what Size? Thank you gor the video! I will be following you ❤ TIA I wrote down all the extra you said to get ... anything else you can think of would be appreciated.
I’m sew excited for you!! I prefer either tex 70 or 80. I have some from Sunny Sewing Machine, Wizardy Stitchery but I have been loving the color options from Siah Swag. She also has really nice hardware too.
From what I’ve learned is that sometimes they can get out of timing in shipment. Not knowing this I probably made it worse and then in my hurried attempt to figure it out broke it completely.
This was very interesting. I have not changed my oil yet or put oil in the bobbin case. I have bought the new Posi pins but have not had luck getting them in correctly. As someone else has mentioned I am experiencing back and leg issues with my knee lift. It seeems like I have to apply a lot of pressure in order for it to raise. Any thoughts regarding this? Thanks again for your video.
Thanks for sharing and asking these questions. I definitely felt the issue in my back and legs until I upgraded my chair. I definitely needed to be higher than what my old chair was and my new chair has good lower back support too. I know my husband helped me with the adjustment of the knee lift also when I got my new chair so it may help to have someone help you adjust it while you are actually sitting down. As for the posi pins Sailrite does have a video of you seem to have a knocking sound all about the posi pins for the fabricator. I suggest watching that video also. Learning what Tex thread and the stitch length my Fabricator likes to sew has been super helpful too.
Loved how you included your husband “DJ” in your ending. Question: so you purch the other presser feet (I assume left and right zipper and 1 other) but you use the “NARROW Presser Foot” more. Does it give u the same measurement guide as the left and right zipper PFeet? Did DJ not already have the Allen wrenches on hand OR ahoy just wanted to have “the set” that would match your machine? You showed a gallon of oil as a must add to purch list - how much oil is used from the gallon? What I’m trying to ask is - does it take like a 1/4 gal per oil chg (so you could chg oil 4x per gal). Asking so I can order enough oil to save on shipping. Thank you for sharing your troubles and joys of your Fabricator purchase with us “Wannabies”.
Thanks for watching. Ok now your questions, yes the narrow gives you that 1/4 on each side that is normal seam allowance for zippers. If you wanted a tighter zipper seam allowance than that the left and right will do that about 1/8” I think. The Allen wrenches are a set we had but my husband gave me them to just keep close if I needed them. I’ve changed my oil twice since I got it and it’s probably due for it again. And it’s about a 1/4 of the way used since last July when I bought my machine. I am so glad this video was helpful and yes, I would have had a lot more issues if I didn’t have a live in mechanic to help me thru the transition.
I am seriously considering a Sailrite. The biggest draw is it is an American company. The biggest downside is you cannot test drive one before spending that much money. You can test drive all the other industrials.
I haven’t sewn on a Juki yet but I hope to at Sew Magical to really get an understanding if there is a difference. The main draw for us was that it is a US company and being rural there are no Juki dealers anyway. Also when I need help I get someone at Sailrite and even if I have to watch a few videos I’d I really needed someone to talk me through something they could.
It broke because me not the machine. I tried to get the thread loose with a screwdriver and snapped a piece of it off, which then required us to change out the rotary hook. But thread jammed are common in the rotary hook in all industrials from what I hear.
Thanks for the oiling tip.
Yes I oil mine every time I sit to sew
I don't know how to sew, but I think I'm going to start. Sailrite will be my choice.
They are definitely great machines! Best of luck with your sewing journey.

Love it!
I loved my old Singer! Unfortunately they have been sold so many times now they just aren’t the same. Thanks for being here!

Great video. I love my Fabricator AND my mechanic hubby that helps me keep it running smoothly.

Is the trade out of the rotary hook the answer. Is the timing already set on the new rotary hook?
From what I’ve learned is that sometimes they can get out of timing in shipment. Not knowing this I probably made it worse and then in my hurried attempt to figure it out broke it completely.

There is a adjustment under the table
Do you have to oil the rotary hook separately? I’ve never done it 😬 I just assumed the oil in the pan would get oil to wherever it was necessary 😅
I do oil the rotary hook separately. Every time I sit down to sew or change out my bobbin color thread. This is what they told me from Sailrite tech.
I just assembled my fabricator today. It was an adventure. But they forgot to send a posi-pin
Oh no, yes definitely want to have the posi pin. It’s a good idea just a bit of a learning curve. All the best with your new machine.
I have never broken a rotary pin.
It can happen

a rotary hook breaking because of a thread jam???? seriously? Sounds like crappy fabrication of the fabricator.
