    This guy is a Legend. No gimmicks, no fancy Dan nonsense, no sales pitch for the 'ultimate bass course' - just good, solid practical wisdom from the trenches.

    Brilliant! I was tempted to just pass over this one, but thought, "why not? I'm here to learn." I'm glad I did. I think the thing that made the most sense to me was that how I was holding the bass sitting was different than standing and that particular point this guy makes about them being the same regardless was just too useful. Definitely going to keep going with this fella.

    I finally got my bass this morning (after many years of trying to convince my parents) and I'm more in love with the instrument itself than I am with playing- that's saying a lot for me😂- I'd just like to say thank you!

    Hey I love your teaching system and style on here! It is so clear and made so simple to understand and easy to follow! Thank you all so very much, I would also ask what kinda 5 string bass guitar is that and what kinda strap is that also? Thanks again for all you all do!.

    • @MusicCollegeTV
      @MusicCollegeTV  6 років тому +1

      Hi Scotty - The 5 String is another creation by Jon Shuker - Here's a link to a short vid about the Jazz Bass I use for the majority of these sessions. ua-cam.com/video/qQxOPJEId4A/v-deo.html
      The Strap is an old Levy's strap. Bought 2 of them about 15years ago and they're still going strong!

      Thanks Richie Blake, I will check it out when I can, and man I love your videos lessons thank God I found your you tube channel, dude my work makes us work all the time and it really gets in the way of everything I have to do with my family time, house work, and choirs to do, I do have time a little bit but I have to use it wisely, I have only been learning the bass guitar for about 11months now, but I am trying to find a good solid practice routine I would love to get in the blues and jazz very fluently! I have been playing the bass guitar for our church Praise and worship team and our choir, but I have to play by chord sheets music, I can play just a little bit I mean very little by ear, so I just need something solid to practice on regularly to make a more solid groovin player, and open up the whole bass guitar to me with a deep understanding of it, your videos lessons are a true blessing Richie Blake! Thanks for getting back with me, have a good day.

    I would like to start playing standing up, but my bass is so freakin heavy I can’t take it for more than 5 minutes 😂

  • @SonOfTheHenry
    @SonOfTheHenry 9 років тому +1

    Question: I have a 6th string bass so it is VERY top heavy. When I have the strap low it is fine but I want to have it high when is sit down. It dives so low there's no way I can just let it be where it wants to be, but I found that resting my plucking arm on the body of the bass keeps keeps the head it. Is this ok? Or will this develope bad technique? If this is not ok what should I do? Thanks.

    • @mattjustmatt8230
      @mattjustmatt8230 9 років тому

      make the strap take the blunt of the weight. you don't want to be holding the bass with your arms or hands. wider strap will probably hold still on your shoulders easier especially if leather.

    For me it feels natural to rest my plucking forearm on the back of the bass which counteracts the head dropping. So i guess i can keep my strap short

    Why you swicth from five strings?

  • @samuelfuentes8436
    @samuelfuentes8436 6 років тому

    Hi Professor,
    Love your classes. Unfortunately as far as my Gibson SG and I are concerned, increasing the strap length doesn't work. The Bass head "nosedives" in any position. I'm thinking a better quality strap is in order. (Different material, different width) It's either that or change the bass itself.
    Again, thank you for the classes. :)
