    Fantastic... love the results from Hydro dipping! One tip: use the matching rims on each side of the car... both VW rims on one side... that way, you don't really notice that they don't match!

      I would have just made new rims on the printer, but not everyone has a 3D printer.

      As a model builder, I caught that too! Also the missing front and rear bumpers. Easily could add something simple, or gone "custom!" Very cool stuff though.

      @@rlsrls6074 I'm an American, and I've never been asked by the DMV for the color of my vehicles, nor is it listed on the registration card. Should it ever happen, my old pickup truck would be listed as "rust."

    An interesting option with hydrographics. You can choose any pattern. Tanker vessels are painted approximately like this. Water is pumped into the tank and paint is sprayed from above. The water is then drained and paint, which deposits on the surface of the water on the hull structures of the vessel.

      I would have at least put the mag style on the back and VW hubs on front. There is a mag on the front on one side and the back on the other. Details, details, details!

    OMG... I did NOT know Tonka made a VW Beetle. I love it! Normally, I’m not a huge fan of hydrodipping. But, in this case... totally appropriate!

    Great idea with the dip. If you turn one of the wheels around you would have matching wheels on each side.

      Yeah that's bugging me too. Either have both spoked wheels on the same side, or have them both in the back. :-P

    There should have been a little rust hole in the floorboard just like a full sized Bug has.

    It's so satisfying to see you blast the body clean and watch all of that rust come off to reveal the perfect metal underneath. I have to admit I was skeptical about how the hydro dip would turn out but I have to say that you and Kansas Hydro should be proud of the result. Great work.

    Straight away, before I even watch the rest of the video. I can guarantee the hydrodipping will look fantastic. But... Ahhh but but but. Mate that patina on the car body is awesome. Rat Rod look 😎. Treat the rust so it goes no further, smooth out the edges and then just clear coat it. Then restore the rest of the toy. Love your work brother. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    This is going to sound odd...but I have one of these from my childhood in very good condition. What I love about it is that is has a smell...and the odor has not changed in more than 40 years. It takes me right back to being 8 years old.

    I gotta admit that as soon as I read that you were hydro dipping I thought "Hmmmm, this should be a f***-up"......definitely not a fan of it but it did turn out very nice....well done!

    Wow! I haven't seen a vehicle that colorful since the Partrige Family Tour Bus.😎 I had a VW Beetle just like that when I was a kid, but mine was a single shade of red.

    Fantastic! I love it. Except for one very minor thing my OCD will not let go of. The mismatched wheels. If they had been any other way; one type on the front, the other on the rear . . . Or one type on the left, the other on the right . . . But to have them on opposite sides, opposite axles, that's just too much.

    Great project, but the pattern destroyed the only redeeming thing about those cars ...the body line! I still appreciate hydro dipping (and shoutout to Kansas Graphics for sponsoring this), but this seemed like a missed opportunity to use that beautiful powder blue. Maybe make a custom "super beetle" in the future? Do you like bright yellow?😁

      Yea the pattern takes care of itself when it comes to blending, because the seems are actually all mismatched.

    I have an old tonka bug! Except its jacked up in the back and has a huge chrome engine sticking out the back.. Think it was called the cherry bomb. Has stickers on the doors that look like cherry bombs... Bought it at a swap meet hope to do it some justice like you do with your restorations.

    Forgiveness and restoration are two difference acts. Forgiveness can lead to restoration but restoration is not hinged to forgiveness.

    About the only way that could be improved is if the hydrodip was a rainbow of flowers. That would have the bug sooooo "flower child" in appearance.

    Nice restoration, but when we have two pairs of different rims, we can
    put both on the same side for an aesthetic reason, anyway, we can not
    see both sides of a car at the same time !

    I drove one of these in HS, painted it black, top silver. Wrote Copenhagen on sides...so it looked like a snuff can. Wish I had a pic. Yours looks better.
