I think I first saw the lagonda in a motor trend magazine as a teenager and drooled. I loved it and it was my it car for a long while. It's still quite unusual and eye-catching. I also.liked the Cadillac Allanté which has somewhat similar styling.

What a pleasure to see such an educated report from a person who not only loves his car but knows everything about it from a designer's and industrial perspective. Such a refreshing video from those who only comment on old cars from a "quirk" perspective with little respect to history and people who worked hard to bring those pieces of art to life at the time.

Richard Vaughan is the consummate automotive design professional, and his comments add immeasurably to this splendid video. I am not surprised that his Lagonda is one of the most delicious examples extant.

At 46 y.o. I've listed after this car since my early teens. Thank you so much for sharing, I learned a few things I didn't know. When people ask if I could have any car, I always tell the AML, and they most always have no idea what I'm talking about. I usually show them a picture and they are stunned. You're so fortunate to have one, thanks again for sharing your impressions and the car!

I really enjoyed Richard Vaughan's presentation of the Lagonda, I don't know which I enjoyed more the car or listening to his description and presentation of the Lagonda, exellent speaker, how would I rate Richard Vaughan's presentation, Superlative!!! someone should snatch this guy up and put him on the top of the list of speakers in America. Not everyone can captivate an audiance but I am betting he can. Love these cars!!! Enjoy your ride Richard.

Great car, great presentation. I am from Central Europe, I prefer classic cars and I drive a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. About 20 pieces of that model in entire Europe only. Anywhere I stop, children cheer and people make inquiries about it, great fun. :)

I remember during the mid80s, being a parking attendant at an upscale condominium. This car with the only difference being with a tan interior belonged to one of the residents, who also owned a Rolls-Royce and a Benz. I was barely out of my teens when my turn finally came up to park this dream. In my excitement, I said " ooh, I've been dying to drive this car! " to which the owner replied " as long as you don't drive to die the car! " a moment that I'll always remember!

Thanks for a great and relaxed review. Compare this to Doug De Muro's review of a 1987 Lagonda and this is SO much better and more relaxed to listen to. Also the fact that this guy is not only the owner but a car designer, gives the review so much more depth. I was fascinated about the sheet metal design, I did not know that they were handmade and the explanations along the car lines is amazing. I was disappointed, as with Doug De Muro's review, that there was no mention at all about the mechanical aspects, except the power and torque figures and that the suspension is self levelling. Also could have done without the porno music in the background but at least it was very subdued.

    • @cirenosnor5768
      @cirenosnor5768 4 роки тому

Doug’s reviews can be shallow and such was the case with his Lagonda clip. The non stamped, hand made body work is fascinating and guess Doug wasn’t aware of it. We watch clips about these cars to learn those things

I like the style of the car the Clusters just like what you see in Cadillacs you know some of the Cadillacs few years back Cadillacs worse I think some parts for Cadillacs were made from England that's maybe where they got that design from I just like the cluster cluster panel for all the gauges kind of reminds me of being in a Cadillac

Few people know that Lagonda was a British car company starting in 1906,based in Staines ,Surrey. The company was taken over by Aston Martin in 1947. On the TV series Poirot, based on a clever Belgian detective , written by Agatha Christie, the close friend of Poirot, Hastings drives a 1931 Lagonda.

Fantastic video, and very informative. I can't say that I care too much for the interior as it seems cramped for a sedan. I am assuming that the trunk (boot) is a little shallow. But, the styling is unmatched! This Aston Martin has lines and details that must have caused fist fights among the engineers. Love it, and I don't blame you a bit for buying it on the spot. Very best, Toi

Many years back, I was driving on the 405 Freeway near LAX in Los Angeles and saw an Aston Martin Lagonda ahead of me. I love me some 80's Lagonda! As a 80's car enthusiast myself, I have always respected these cars. It's good to know the owner has had such good luck (reliability) with his car. From the time I saw this car in Miami Vice I was hooked on Astons. At the time I ended up getting a DB9 in fear that the Lagonda would be terrible from a reliability standpoint. Now I know otherwise. Cool dude and great car!

I used to draw this car back in '78-79. I was labeled "The World's Fastest Calculator". I wanted to be a car designer for the longest time but it wasn't meant to be because I hated doing schoolwork despite being a good student. I did see some of these Lagondas in Newport Beach when I visited in '89.

I thought this was a really well presented video. It's good to get a balanced view from someone who talks a lot of sense without all the silly jokes we often get in car reviews. The reliability problems of much 70s and 80s technology is often overplayed these days so I'm pleased RIchard put things in perspective. One thing about this car is that it makes so many other cars look boring. It did when it was made and still does now.

It sounds a lot better than it looks, but whatever one thinks of it, it's a special car that should be enjoyed just for what it says about the time in which it was made. Excellent job describing it. Whenever I see a car this big, I always wonder if it has interior commensurate with its size, or if the styling took precedence over comfort. It's hard to tell from 6:17; the space ahead of the rear seat looks tight, but the seat itself is huge, so it all depends on whether there is enough room under the front seats to stretch out or not. The interior certainly looks luxurious, however it feels.

Excellent video. Thank you Richard for sharing your Lagonda with us. I was obsessed with this car back in the day (I was 13 when I first ran across it - probably in Polular Science). One correction, though: much of the complex sheet metal (aluminium) was not hand formed, but was produced via the so-called superplastic vacuum forming process, using a single-sided die. Here is a document about the process: core.materials.ac.uk/repository/eaa/talat/3803.pdf

Popular Science Feb 1978 page 123 talks about the superplastic vacuum forming process process used for the Lagonda. Amazing they would use such a space age process for a low production vehicle.

I remember when this car came out. Some rich Russian wanted one so badly, but Aston Martin refused to sell him one.

Wow, I've always loved these cars, I think they're unconventionally beautiful. My only comment would be that the front and rear repeater indicators on the guards look very very out of place. Such an amazingly sharp car with 2 pimples sticking out on the sides. Without those, I think it's gorgeous. I'd very much like to own a black one, however it's one car that looks great in any colour. You could almost convince people it was a modern car if they looked at it, it's definitely not what you would expect for a 40yo car shape. Want one. Want one badly. Lol.

Mt. Lansa yeah like the Countach had to have US spec, and the early 911's with ginormous bumper over riders. Vomit.

Good review bro. Looked for this car cause it was on a dubious list of worst cars in history. Not so sure now. The 2016 Lagonda is awesome too.
