I really enjoyed watching this video ! That's what YTube is all about, not those who put anything together to get views. Talented and beautiful crew !! Well done. Glad for your success !
Nice video. Used to go to Alaska on the regular when I lived on the West Coast. Now live in Florida , watching I know I have to plan another trip back.
Wow, wow, wow. Dreamed of coming up that way as a kid. Ended up in NC. Every time i watch something from up there i almost get sick thinking about it. I do commercial fish here, and its what i love to do. Just wish id have went that way instead. Thanks for sharing.
I just found your channel. We baited up yesterday and head out tonight for our halibut opener. The challenge of filming while also working. Hard to do both. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a good video out. Good job on yours.
It is hard! Have a safe and successful trip and hopefully I'll find your video too! Looking forward to the opportunity to make more in the future. Maybe another trip in August with my Dad and brother. 🤞🏼
I fished out of Petersburg in the late ‘90s. Yeah I’m old ! I was younger then. Worked on the Guide and the Theresa Marie , to name a few. Excited to find your channel. You have a new subscriber.
Your a lucky lady to have your dad make you part of the crew. My daughter was a bit to young to bring along when I fished out Gloucester especially during the winter.
Winter fisheries are rough. I started with him when I was 11 and didn't appreciate it at first but grew to love it. Definitely don't overdo my workload anymore cause it's hard on the body but I'm thankful for the opportunity it's given me.
Awesome as video... the fish look like giant flounder like what we get here in New Zealand but hugerrr😂... all in all looks awesome boat, crew an scenery.
New subscriber here!😊 I loved the beautiful scenery along the shore. The fish! I wish I were young enough to make an Alaskan fishing trip! I'm looking forward to more fishing videos, I've followed the channel of a commercial halibut/cod fish/rock fish operation on Kodiak for several years. I'm glad to have found your channel. I loved the music you used on the video, and when I could hear what you were listening to on the boat your taste in music rang true! Great tunes!
I fish down south but never commercial. I eat Halibut too, but not as much because cost for us in Texas has risen quite a bit do to fuel and shipping. I'm curious did you guys far short of goal because it is becoming harder to find halibut? I know down here fishing isn't what it used to be when I was a young boy. It's a lot harder to fill a cooler with fish, crabs, anything.
Man i miss home! I remember seeing your dad's boat in the harbor when I was younger. Didn't he build it himself? I seem to remember a story that the owner of Zeus built the boat and another one like it. It has been 25+ years since I left PSG but i miss it. Thanks for the video.
Fisrt fished back in the bad old derby days, 24 hour openings. Learned from and old guy who was 64, how to run stuck gear, set 40 skates off the chute in an hour. The second boat I fished the captain was in his thirties and ran snap on gear and thought he was the faster person ever at running a roller. He took 20 hours to run 45 skates of gear. The next opening I ran the roller and after eight hours was done and he asked me what we were supposed to do now. "Run in and anchor, bait more gear and set it, what else." He hadn't been trained by an old timer so didn't learn hard core fishing, "assholes and elbows," fishing..
@@Brynnmarieblack Fished for a guy out of Kodiak one spring and he wanted to set five skates for halibut just to fill his freezers. I coiled five skates in the tubs, tied them together so I could kick one into the chute after the preceeding one ran out, and set the chute off the back of the boat and he came out and the captain said it was impossible that line would go out for more than a half second. I explained I'd set great that way many years and though it might seems impossible it really worked. I wold prove it it if we just tried. Nope. He insisted we run line from the reel and it took forever. Guess the old way is dead. Used to be unless there was a 150+ halibut one didn't stop the roller while running the roller, one had to shake all the fish as they came along, Not easy for left hander to learn to use the gaff like that, even if it was dogfish for a hundred hooks in a row.
A lot of the audio is poor need the talk loud or get a mic. Another tip show one shot of haulin gear slow so we can see it then high speed is fine. Like the videos. Love the scenery
Loved the content but had a problem with sound volumes. When you are talking, the volume is at one level and when you switch to the background music it gets much, much louder. I had to constantly adjust my speaker setting to balance it out.
What are those brown matts your working on? Do the keep the fish from sliding around when your cleaning them? They look like door matts. Awesome video.
Yes! You got the purpose of them right! They are called coco mats. We also use them to stand on when hauling gear in order to have more traction on deck.
If this was a music video it turned out great . Could not hear you talk very well because the music was so loud an saw very little fishing. Good music tho . Would love to see a lot more fishing In regular speed .Thanks
You have got the eye! Invest in some GoPro’s with multiple camera, angles, continue with shots that are scenery dominant including shots of the Mariners experience… shots of vessel, underway, piercing through waves, etc. Prepare for 10 to 25% of your work day changing batteries, changing camera angles, and utilizing your penchant for this art form by planning ahead. It’s a tall order, my dear, but I believe you fit the bill. Salutations, and, thank you!!
I watched this video so I could learn about halibut fishing but I'm still mystified, all I learned was bait and skates. It was 9 minutes before I saw an actual fish
No disrespect meant, I'm up to 8 minutes in your video and I haven't seen one fish come over the side. I guess I'll try and watch the rest and see what happens.
You'd be a really inpatient deckhand then.. that's why they call it fishing and not catching and these videos show the process, not instant gratification.
I really enjoyed watching this video ! That's what YTube is all about, not those who put anything together to get views. Talented and beautiful crew !! Well done. Glad for your success !
Boy that's the prettiest halibut fisherman I've ever seen
Good start. You have our attention. Now more deck time. Bravo!
Great video! The raw footage is awesome. A lot or people focus on edits and sound overs but the raw stuff is the best!
loved it...a little more about catching the fish!!!.....:)...
Looks like hard work yet what makes it wonderful is everyone knows their job and it's family, Peace.
Absolutely
You cannot beat the views and music. Thanks for sharing

Hi Robin, the picture of you coming in on the side of that boat is priceless. Thank you!!!
Awesome vids! I like the fact that you are fishing as a family. Reminds me of my dad and how we fished together in Palau. Thank you!

This was cool, I used to fish on the B.C. coast back in the late 80's, back then we would get 50,000lbs in 3 days !!
Damn that's a lot of poundage!
I was on the Eileen in 86 I believe, we landed 37,000 24 hrs derby opener on Portlock Bank.
Those where the days😊

love to watch your video.........
Awesome! I remember back in 2012 we did a 32k trip in 4 days
Very cool, you were right you did a pretty good job on the video
Well done! I like the use of captions as well as voice-overs. They add layers of interest to your production.
Thank you for that compliment!
Sounds like a great plays list on the boat.
Always!
That was awesome 👏
Brings back memories. I worked my Uncle Roman’s gillnetter out of Port P in 1978. Great memories. Great video. Thanks.
Very cool! Thanks for watching!
We were about 25-30 miles south of Port Protection
Great vid. Love it. You go girl!

Cool video i pretty much do the same thing but with a longline drum we had around 1,000 halibut this last opener
Right on!

It's not always difficult to find them but this trip it was so yes, that's why we fell short.
Looking forward to the next trip coming up in August!
Me too!
Hello from Mississippi
You have my attention as a beautiful woman working hard right along with the guys is great. Keep up the hard work Chiquita!!!
So cool! I’d love to see more about the process you are using to set and pull the gear.
Thanks for the feedback! Will hopefully be making another halibut video in August with more information and better footage!
Nice trip. Figured by now the trawlers would have taken them all.
Yeah they scoop up so much and don't really create sustainable fishing.
trawlers pick up halibut > ? i kinda think not
@@doncallies8803 are you joking? They're allowed more halibut as bycatch than the other user groups can harvest.
I would go on that Trip just for the Halibut
It’s awesome seeing such hard working people. Great video!
Lots of work !
Indeed! Had a great time though!
cool video :)
That looked totally yummy
Our boat is almost done tendering and i'll be back halibut fishing for our quota

Warren Westrom built his boat.. not sure if I spelled that name right. Masculine boat and fishes well! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Skip to minuet 8:20 to start seeing halibut
