- A long overdue unboxing of a package that arrived over 3 years ago and got lost during my move into the country!
Filled to the brim with a fantastic collection of near mint Yesteryear models this package was worth the wait. So glad it was discovered and that I am able to showcase these beautiful models for all to see.
A big shout out to Charles Bartlett from Christie Downs , near Adelaide in Australia, for donating these gems!

The American flag "backwards" indicates the direction of the wind. It's displayed that way on anything that would have movement. That's why it is shown both ways on the model, depending on the side it's on and the flow of the breeze. (From Illinois, USA)
All that was missing from this was Julie!
What a stunning gift from Charles.
That look on your face when you explain you've had it for 3 years is priceless 😅 I hope Charles got to see that you did eventually get round to opening his package.
The sign on the Heinz truck, is a pickle. An early Heinz product. Also, Heinz never actually had 57 varieties of anything - the founder, Henry J Heinz, just liked the sound of it, although early adverts mention '57 Varieties Of Pickle' (there weren't).
Lledo were a company formed by the chief designer of Matchbox, Jack Odell - 'Lledo' is his surname backwards. His company made some beautiful 'Yesteryear' type models, the original series of which came with some ridiculously good figures. Worth finding and collecting. Odell then produced 1/43 scale 'Vanguards', which were almost identical to classic 1960's Corgi models, but far better quality. Lledo was eventually bought out by Corgi.
As a school kid in Surburbia outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania you would take a field trip into the city and tour the Heinz Plant- watch them make Ketchup and such and you would get a plastic Pickle pin at the end of the tour. For the other note: The same license plate was on most of the trucks.
@@davidparker8221 - I love that. It's a very cool memory. 👍👍👍
The American flag must always "wave". ,
Imagine a flag pole mounted to what ever the image is apply then the flag is hung,
Then the wind blows ..
I use to paint F-14A fighter jets in the Navy , during Operation Desert Shield ,the precursor to the" Storm"

Our squadron symbol is "Felix the Cat ,holding a bomb.

The boiler in the cab was so the driver could stoke the boiler, getting toastie tootsies was just a bonus.
Moin (G'day) from Cuxhaven.
Now that's a package you can wait three years for 🤣
Chock-a-block with stunning jewellery 🤩
Am I still in Marty's hobby room now, or the Matchbox Museum ? 🤔😉
The "MMoY" and the "Lledos" just WOW 👍🏼
Normally I focus on the models, today I just grabbed a bag of S&Vs (salt and vinegar chips) and enjoyed the show....
Yup Bremen is in Northern Germany and about 80 km away from me.
If I'm honest...
There are so many of your shows that I like to watch again and again that it's hard for me to choose a favourite episode. This one is ,guaranteed, to be in the TOP 5 🤩👍🏼 Greatest unboxing I've ever seen. If I haven't lost count, there are 31 excellent classics 🔎👀🤩👍🏼
I think that just made this episode my absolute favourite unboxing show of all time. 🏆🎉
Marty, I'm thrilled, clearly both thumbs up from me for this 👍🏼👍🏼 (unfortunately I only have two of them 🤣)
Thanks so much for sharing 🙏🏼
To you, Julie, the team behind the scene and
(of course) the most koalafied ambassador of Australia a bonza week and stay safe and sound. (Shoutout to KEVIN 🐨👍🏻🇦🇺)
Keep up your awesome work, mate 😁
Greetings from the lighthouse end of the Elbe River.
😎👍🏼🇦🇺🍻🇩🇪👍🏼🤠
Great haul there, we need to know if Charles is still with us.
I've never thought of this until about halfway through your video - imagine the colors of the city streets or the country side as these trucks chugged their way through their deliveries! We only see black and white photos and film and see the past as dark and drab. This really brings some life to the past. Very nice collection!
Wow! Name that display to "Charles's garage" What a nice set of cars!
You already have a number of pieces to compose a Matchbox Museum... amazing collection!!
The car that was on the Titanic was a 1912 Renault Type CB Coupe de Ville. I thought of it as soon as you showed the first model you pulled out!
@Marty'sMatchboxMakeovers
Awesome! Great to see the first (of many) unboxing videos in your new gaff!
Keep the resto vids coming
Great unboxing video ❗💯🔥👍
Thank You for sharing this Unboxing, excellent collection.
Like you I hope that Charles is still with us and can view it once again.
As far as the Heinz 57 I believe that is a dill pickle.
The Bumper on the Tow Truck is a Push Bumper, used for pushing wrecked on disabled vehicles out of traffic.
Yup, it's a pickle. I don't know if it's SPECIFICALLY a DILL pickle, since they made sweet pickles too, but it IS a pickle of SOME kind. I'm guessing they never worried about WHAT kind.
I have a model T ford from the Lledo days gone series which has Heinz 57 varieties livery in it. They did pickles, sauces and euchred eggs whatever the last one means
Hi Marty, i can let you into a little secret. I used to work at Matchbox Toy factory in Rochford Essex for six years until they shut it down in 1990/91. I worked in the diecast foundry for 6 months (it was bloody hot in the summer even with the vents and windows open) until i went into the plastics department. They made me redundant three week's before Christmas in 1988 when they were operating on a skeleton shift from 1989 until they shut down to move everything to China. Now i can tell you that all the diecast cars and lorrys that were made never came out of the factory 🏭 with the same colour plastic or paint work. Specially the plastic powder because i was in charge of the plastics store, sending everything onto the shop floor. Whenever we ran out of the colours they wanted, the management would say to us to send over a replacement colour over to complete the order. So that means the same models that came out of the factory did have different coloured plastic and paint work on the models.
Great info Paul thanks for taking the time to leave a great comment. Can't believe that you actually worked for Matchbox! - Brilliant!
“Hames” (from the tiny sign on the diorama door) are the wooden parts of draft collars, commonly tipped with brass ball ends. Loosening the hame reins would let the animal work at a more comfortable pace.
The Heinz plant in Pittsburgh, Pa made pickles. When a kid toured the plant,(with a school group) he got a small pickle pin. I still have mine from 1955.
That was a pickle on that Heinz truck. I just went to the Picklefest that they sponsored in Pittsburgh.
❤ wonderful video, Marty! And I do hope you give us a follow-up on Charles. Much has, unfortunately, happened to far too many folks since the events of 2020 et al. 😢
I've been collecting for over 40 years matchbox hotwheels etc I use to have collectors look at my stuff got to a stage the money 💰 they offered me was 20 times less than selling on eBay so I don't let anyone on my property 🤠 anymore so surprised people actually send stuff free don't happen to me cheers Stephen 🍀✌️
Hi Marty, Love your videos and greetings from Cape Town, South Africa.
Keep up the good work and keep well.
The canton of the US flag is properly displayed in the upper left hand corner, whether displayed vertically or horizontally. However, a flag decal displayed on a vehicle or as a patch on an article of clothing can have a reverse fly configuration, meaning the canton is leading the flag, because the US flag must always advance. Hope this clears it up for you.
'These colors don't run' is historically about the quality of the textile dyes used for the flag. Of course, some patriotic dude had to apply a different meaning to that sentence.
#TerribleHistoryFacts
Heinz 57 in America is a Steak Sauce...! Adopted a pleasant collection! Absolutely Brilliant!
Wow Marty... this is a treat
In the 50s 60s SPRATTS was what Winalot is today. They used to have all different shapes and colours of biscuits. A lot of dogs seem to have the charcoal as a favourite
Way to go Charles!! What a collection of cars! Congrats Marty! Thanks for sharing.
Missed these!
Very nice.looking good 👍👍👍👍👍😊
What a very nice collection! Kudos to Charles. 😎👍
Marty, you are correct about the orientation of the US Stars and Stripes. In certain situations, the stars portion should always point towards the front of the person or vehicle - specifically military patches and painted emblems.
This is to symbolise the flag being carried on a standard and moving forward. From the left hand side, of the person carrying the standard, the flag looks correct with the field of stars in the upper left hand corner.
From the right, the field of stars should appear in the upper right hand corner - it looks odd but it is correct as this is how the flag would appear if it was being moved forwards and the wind was whipping the flag back.
As for that Trailways coach, it would not be a requirement for the flag to be reversed as it only a bus company.
You are mostly correct. The Union of the flag (the blue square with stars) should ALWAYS be in the upper left corner, whether hanging horizontal or vertical as it is intended to be viewed. The only exception is when the flag is on the right side of a uniform or vehicle. As you said, but I don't think it's limited to official or military vehicles. I'm pretty sure it includes ALL vehicles. It should always be oriented to be seen as it always moving forward. So it would be proper for that bus to have it mirrored.
What a GLORIOUS set!!!
Charles sent an absolute gem of a collection 😊
A very generous gift. This just shows us how much you are loved and appreciated by your fans. Thank you for sharing.
It's easy to explain your channel. Enjoyment, enjoyment, enjoyment!! Around the world, we look forward to your latest video. Keep up with your amazing followers...3 years. Wow!!.
What great looking models! They are in amazingly good condition. Thanks to you and Charles for this unboxing.
The flag shoot appear as there it’s a real flag mounted on the vehicle, so it could appear ‘backward’ depending on which side you look at it. Great video Marty!!
My word that's extraordinarily a lot in the box. That would take anyone a minute to pack.
Hi Marty, excellent video, as always. I follow you from Cantabria, a region in the North of Spain.
HEinz 57 Varietes, is a brand of Ketchup, since 1896 from the Heinz firm, Pitsburg U.S.A. Although already in that year, the company marketed more than 60 products, number 5 was the favorite number and number 7, that of his wife. Greetings and thanks for sharing
Very nice gifts Marty 🙂
macou was part of the Colony of Hong Kong, originally Portugal, I think. What a collection!
@18:50 Apologies if this is a repeat of someone else's answer, but the thing on top of the Heinz truck is indeed a cucumber, a pickle, a gherkin. Besides their ketchup, Heinz made and still makes a wide range of pickles and condiments. I have a couple of collectible plastic pins from the 30s or 40s from Heinz, that are in the shape of that same pickle.
Great unboxing. I've missed your unboxings. Thanks to Charles for a great gift!! Always enjoy your videos!
Needed a close up of that last model.
*Marty that is a nice collection.... even if it took you 3 years to open it up. Charles was very patient waiting on you... now he can go YAY, it did arrive.*
Lledo is the company of Jack Odell - he was one of the founders of Matchbox along with Leslie Smith (Lesney). Great video Marty. Love a good unboxing video.
P.S. Macau is in China.
...right next to Hong Kong.
The model TT had a longer wheelbase, & a heavier frame and rear axle than the model T and it was built as a light truck with a cargo capacity of 1 short ton.
Hello Marty, another great video. The USA Flag is displayed as always as moving forward. You will see this when the flag is on the right shoulder of military uniforms.
Beautiful batch of models Marty, you're very lucky to have a donor like Charles! My favorite was the blue & white steam engine with the gold trim! Exquisite model! For info, you are correct on the display of the Stars & Stripes! It should be shown as when facing the flag, the blue star field should always be up to the left, symbolically pointing to your heart. A great collection from Charles, thank you Marty for sharing! From Yuma, Arizona, USA, have a great afternoon!
Well usually, but not always. When the flag is placed on a military uniform, the blue field is on the right "as it would look when carried into battle." moving from left to right.
@@Liam1H can honestly say I've never heard that. In the '60s & '70, always on the left shoulder or left chest. I stand corrected.
❤WE WANT KEVIN!🐨
Pickfords Removals is still going here in the UK. Castlemaine XXXX came over here in the early 80's with a massive promotional campaign. I thought it tasted like p**s water. Missed Julie in the background with a glass of wine with and critique of your presentation.
Great Video! Marty, you MUST tell us that Charles knows you unboxed his gift! and that you're doing a cabinet in his honour.
The Stars on the US flag have to face the direction of travel if placed on a vehicle - on the left side, the stars would be on the left side of the flag. On the right side of the vehicle, they'd be on the right side of the flag.
Yes, the first model you showed (green Renault) was also available on an ashtray an other desk displays.
Watching your videos and mail-calls is like a tripback in time as you tell a little about each casting and, with some, even a bit of personal appreciation. Always a fantastic video, sir. Thank you so much for all you do!! 🏆👏❤️
An amazing collection of models from Charles. I hope that he is doing well and best wishes to yourself and Julie.
Marty love your videos it's been awhile since I seen one
I like your work room. Also, your new home and property is very nice.
That’s a Model A ford. Lake goldsmith is near Beaufort in SW Victoria and is the site of a huge working steam museum.
My two favorite UA-cam shows are Marty's Matchbox Makeovers and Jay Leno's Garage. You're amazing Marty!
Thats a pickle on top of the Heinz truck, it started life as a cucumber, same thing I suppose.
aw, so many yesteryears...
I have an even more pristine version of that renault. it's cast into a block of clear resine and some Renault dealerships gave them out as gifts when you bought a new car I think. it's been sitting here a long time, I guess my dad got it when he bought his last new Renault, a 1975 model R4.
I could be wrong, but at leats most of the models that sat on ashtrays, coin trays, pen holders, and so on, were either silver- or gold plated. I have a Bentley in silver someone brought back from canada once, mounted on an ashtray, but the tray is gone. I wonder where it went.
Beck's Bier comes from Bremen, germany. Karlsberg Bier hails from Homburg, between rivers Mosel and Rhine in central western germany. Löwenbräu comes from Munich. Matchbox had some "beer" series from countries, and germany was one of them. :)
the hame rein is, if I'm not mistaken, the strap around the nose, behind the bite, so the horse can't just open the mouth to release the pressure from the rein and ignore it. it also means it can't breathe through the mouth much, which is important if the horse has to pull a heavy cart up a hill. european cities which are located in vallerys, like Stuttgart, had steam-powered pulley systems on certain streets to help the horses pull their load uphill.
I have seen the partial corrosion on the roof of that model T truck. I just don't know what causes it, but I assume they didn't clean the mould properly and leftover, oxidized pieces were molten into the new load's surface. it always seems to happen with such corrugated surfaces. not sure if cleaning and repainting really repairs that, it might come back later.
A nice collection sent to you by Charles. I was fixated on the model Tornado that's behind you. I can't quite see the markings on it.
Hienz is based out of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. The truck has a green pickle on the roof. The are a ketchup company but also do pickle relish. I'm only about 1 1/2 hours away from Pittsburgh.
Always a pleasure to see another Marty video. Please send some winter weather here to Texas where it is 107 F (41.6 C)...stay safe...captjack.
Just to let you know the bumper on the tow truck on the front is a push bumper for pushing a car to start the car by popping the clutch. If they didnt have a heavy one they got all bent out of shape.
Saludos desde Ciudad Guatemala centro America excelente videos y restauraciones
The "mounted" models probably came with transparent cases over them, but crystal clear plastic tends to be brittle, unless it's lexan or something, but that (far as I know) can only be produced in flat sheets, not cast in convenient box shapes. So, I'm guessing they got broken.
I love all the steam models! I wasn't even aware Matchbox made such a variety of them. Great unboxing! Watching this video made me go back through some of my older cars and I was surprised to see how many Yesteryear models I have from my father. The video made me view them in a new light.
Love all your videos. Super cool and very relaxing to watch you transform and renew these beautiful cars.
Hi Marty, the ‘searchlight’ or ‘radio’ on the front of that vehicle is likely a supercharger unit to give it some extra horsepower. They were usually a bolt-on unit and quite ugly. As car engines developed and turbos were introduced, the units were made smaller and fitted in the engine compartment.
Yes, I thought Supercharger. One of my buddy's old bangers has one.
Thank you, Marty! I always get this warm, fuzzy feeling when I see a UA-cam notification and it's a video from you!!!
Glad to see you again Marty. You got me interested in watching your build videos years ago. Thanks for sharing.
The Heinz trucks may have Dill Pickles on the roof which are made from Cucumbers.
Yes you've got to do a makeover on that little yellow Rolls-Royce
Show it some love Marty
Marty, Lake Goldsmith is due west of Ballarat, between Skipton and Beaufort.
Wow! That was an amazing un boxing!
RSPCA is a charity in the UK for animals, and the Hame is a part of the kit for a horse.
Loved the video Marty! Thank you!
absolutely amazing mail call from charles
Hey Marty, The Trailways bus is actually a company that went out of business in the 80's I believe. it was the primary competition against Greyhound bus lines in America.
Trailways still operates. Were owned by Greyhound from I think late 1980s to recently, early 2020s. Trailways has a stop near my midwesterm farm burg. Ahh, Trailways website says they have free 4G/LTE Wi-Fi on board and USB outlets at each seat.
Have you seen the film Genevieve? That Spyker is the car Kenneth More’s character drives, and the one in the film is yellow so that may be why they chose that colour.
Hi ya Marty. What a wonderful and generous donation to your ever growing collection. And yes, I believe Charles needs his own little area in your case. Very enjoyable Marty. Thanks. Take care.
Hello Marty great unboxing very enjoyable
Wow what an opening nice 1 Charles & some v nice additions to the collection Marty.
lot of very nice and well preserved models...
Big thanks to Charles Bartlett for some forthcoming videos!
Another entertaining video, keep up the great work Marty
that parcel has come a long way, lol =) great unboxing
A number of years ago, matchbox did a Beer company series. That is the color the Spiker came in, it's missing it's gear shift.
Oh wow! Fantastic home find!🤭. Hope Mr. Charles is doing wonderful!👍🏿💪🏾🤚🏿🙅🏾♂️ 38:28
Lake Goldsmith is on the way to Beaufort just outside of Ballarat
you guys are one of my favorite You tubers, thank you,
LOVE your videos. May you never run out of cars to work on.
Lake Goldsmith is between Beaufort and Skipton in Western Victoria. The Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally is an annual event highlighting Steam Engines. I went there 50 years ago when we lived in Beaufort. It’s on again in November this year. Google Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally.
Nice unboxing there Marty 👍
Very nice haul. I really like those steam engine trucks the most they look really cool. The Fair on was my favorite
Hip Hip hooray an unboxing well done charles what a collection to pass on to Marty they remind me of collectibles like one van of the 60's in various guises ie ice cream vans delivery vans PO vans mosses minor or bedfords ford Anglia.
Sometimes it takes longer than expected due to circumstances.
It is a wonderful addition to your collection.
The Lledo diecast brand was started by Matchbox founder Jack Odell after he sold the Matchbox brand. He chose the name Lledo for his new company because it was the reverse of his name Odell.
Marty, I think a question you should be asking is: Did Kevin hide the box from you? You know what he is like. He knew about that message about running him over., so he had obviously opened that box and not told you. 🤔
Marty ..always a pleasure!..I always like the yesteryear models..unfortunately they were not popular…
