    What should be answer of following-
    Ahead of a warm front the surface wind
    A) Backs & weakens
    B) Veers and Strengthen
    C) Backs and Strengthen
    As per me and after watching this video answer should be C but IC Joshi books marked it as B .
    Also, the table given in Appendix C of IC Joshi book describing fronts are different than provided in this video

    Around the 7:26 mark when you are talking about the warm front, why is pressure low in front and high behind. Shouldn't the pressure be higher in fron since it is colder air, and lower behind since it is warm?

      Hi. I was thinking also at the same thing. But I’m barely sure that is more correct say that wind back when it moves anti-clockwise and veers when it moves clockwise. When we consider the surface wind can say that wind veers when it become more strong. In my atpl books the definition is that wind backs when it moves anti-clockwise and as we can see ahead of warm front there is low pressure thus we know that the low pressure called also cyclones move anti-clockwise. Hope it is clear. Remember that we re talking about large masses of air when we re talking about warm fronts and cold fronts. Instead, when we talk about wind backing when it becomes weaker we re talking for surface winds thus smaller masses of air!

  • @nishantpatil2329
    @nishantpatil2329 3 роки тому

    Your videos are really informative and good …..I have a small doubt ( How does pressure falls ahead of a warm front ) if you are saying it falls then does it fall at the surface or aloft …..becoz we still have cold air near the surface the pressure should rise at the surface and warm air aloft pressure should drop at a higher altitude

    • @blueskiesandtailwinds6004
      @blueskiesandtailwinds6004  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks.
      The pressure ahead of a warm front starts falling at the ground as the warm air is rising and as it rises, it takes the air molecules up with it, reducing the pressure on ground!

    Hey,
    I feel the explanation and wind direction for warm and cold fronts is incorrect. Please find the correct direction with logic below. The same is there in IC Joshi as well. Kindly check and confirm.
    1. Ahead of a warm front , the typical behavior of surface winds is to veer and strengthen.
    When a warm front approaches, the warm air mass rises over the cooler air mass, creating a sloping boundary. As a result, the surface winds tend to veer, which means they shift clockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) from their initial direction. For example, if the initial winds were coming from the south, they would veer and turn towards the southwest or west.
    Additionally, the warm air rising over the cooler air can create a pressure gradient that strengthens the surface winds. This is due to the increased vertical mixing and the development of a stronger pressure gradient force along the warm front.
    So, the correct answer would be: Veers and strengthens
    2. Behind a warm front , the behavior of surface winds typically involves backing and weakening.
    As a warm front passes over an area, the warm air mass displaces the cooler air mass, causing the surface winds to shift direction. Behind the warm front, the surface winds tend to back, which means they shift counterclockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) from their initial direction. For example, if the initial winds were coming from the southwest, they would back and turn towards the south or southeast.
    The weakening of surface winds behind a warm front is a result of the overall stabilization of the atmosphere. As the warm air mass advances and rises over the cooler air, it creates a more stable environment. This stability reduces the vertical mixing and subsequently weakens the surface winds.
    Therefore, the correct answer for the behavior of surface winds behind a warm front would be: Backs and weakens
    3. Ahead of a cold front , the surface winds typically veer and strengthen.
    As a cold front approaches, a mass of colder air displaces the warmer air ahead of it. The boundary between the two air masses creates a steep slope. Ahead of the cold front, the surface winds tend to veer, which means they shift clockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) from their initial direction. For instance, if the initial winds were coming from the south, they would veer and turn towards the southwest or west.
    Additionally, the cold air advancing and pushing against the warm air can enhance the pressure gradient, resulting in stronger surface winds. The increased pressure gradient force and the vertical mixing associated with the approaching cold front contribute to the strengthening of the surface winds.
    Therefore, the answer for the behavior of surface winds ahead of a cold front is: Veers and strengthens
    4. Behind a cold front , the surface winds typically back and weaken.
    As the cold front passes over an area, the colder air mass displaces the warmer air, causing the surface winds to shift direction. Behind the cold front, the surface winds tend to back, which means they shift counterclockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) from their initial direction. For example, if the initial winds were coming from the southwest, they would back and turn towards the south or southeast.
    The cooling of the atmosphere behind the cold front promotes stability, reducing the vertical mixing and leading to a weakening of the surface winds.
    Therefore, the answer for the behavior of surface winds behind a cold front is: Backs and weakens
    Thanks
