  • Christmas 2023 At The Galleria At Pittsburgh Mills - Tarentum, PA. Enjoy a look at the Christmas decorations or lack there of in this extremely dead mall. An old Mills Corporation property that was never fully occupied. For a weeknight, they still had Santa available for photos. A sad sight.

So sad...no people, no laughter, no kids, no Santa. Just bricks and mortar and wasted money. I want to cry thinking abt the happy times my grandson and I had at the Ft Steuben mall.

So hard to watch as things change and things that you thought would be there for such a long time are dying. Great job with this video, as always. This too will get demolished or repurposed and it will be nothing more than a memory and your videos. Thanks Wallie!

The Christmas lights are beautiful. Its so sad that this mall is dead. I went to the Pittsburgh Mills Galleria once when it opened in 2005. There was more tennats back then. Though, I could see that there was alot of vacant stores in the mall. Online shopping, slumlolords buying dying or dead malls are what causes malls to close. Thats really sad. I miss Century 3 Mall. Honestly, I'm surprised that both Ross Park Mall and Monroeville Mall are still doing as well as they are, even The Mall at Robinson. Wallie, here's some encouraging news--The Pens won another game just last night on Wednesday. They beat the Montreal Canadians 4--3 in OT/SO. LET'S GO PENS!!

Pittsburgh Mills had the worst luck. It opened in 2005. It was not filled when it opened. Then in 2006 it was sold to Zamias. Then in 2007, the foreclosure crisis hit and people tightened their belts, and then that stayed till 2009. Then in 2015, the owners faced foreclosure and no one outbid the bank that held the loan. Wells Fargo the lender bought the mall for $100 (no one outbid them). In 2018, the mall was sold to Namdar Realty Group, a known mall slumlord in the dead mall world. As many in the dead mall community know, Namdar has a reputation similar to other mall slumlords such as Moonbeam, CBL, and Kohan. Then after this, the COVID-19 pandemic hit leading to further decline.
But it is such a beautiful building. I think someone should buy this and repurpose it into something useful that the community needs.

They should turn this mall into a great wolf lodge, since this mall was originally gonna have a great wolf lodge next to in 2010.

@Alex.Culkin Namdar is known to be a "mall slumlord". Others include Moonbeam, CBL, and Kohan. If you know of any more slumlords in the mall business, let me know.

It feels so weird to go into this mall nowadays it’s so dead and kinda feel’s depressing but I still enjoy being in the mall once and awhile cause of the nostalgia cause I basically grew up there. Also gotta give props to Dave and Brian’s Hobby Den and New Dimension comics giving me a good reason to go once and a while and both have been there as long as I can remember

Thinking always about rehabilitating such beautiful artwork and a model of what retail shoppers used to travel from far distances, before Amazon and eBay took over shoppers habits, I'd like to propose that Hollywood see this top notch Mall, and bring movie and TV series/Netflix series here to have a presence here, and open a talent industry here for Hollywood productions and talent scouts to setup shop here. It's really a worthy location for leveraging budget minded films and local talent, in our area.

I lived in the Pittsburgh area from 2005 to 2008, and spent some of that time in New Ken. This was the closest major shopping center, and I remember back in those days when this mall actually did half-decent and had a fairly respectable amount of stores in it.

Born in 2000, I frequented here around 2010-2013. They still had the glow in the dark mini golf and movie theater, and even a pet shop. I've dreamed about visiting this place again every year for a decade. I'm afraid to take a slow and sentimental stroll through it alone though. I saw a video of someone getting in trouble for filming in here. I'd love to walk around with a camera to capture it for myself before it's gone for good, but I don't know if staff will think I'm being sketchy.

Yeah, this place should’ve never been built to begin. Too many malls in Pittsburgh to support. I visited this place before but I lost the footage. I need to come back eventually.

I know the common theme of this mall was that it was doomed at the start and it was, but those first few years it was open, it literally was my internet shopping equivalent. Borders, the flag shop, GameStop and a few others were favorites of mine. It’s so depressing to see it in the shape that it’s in. It’s like walking back 20 years ago to a simpler time before the smart phones.

Not surprised considering it's a Namdar mall. I didn't have to look, the dismal Christmas lights told me everything! They still claim to own the mall here even though they sold in March and finally some improvements are being made!

I used to live in New Ken and had actually left the area before this mall was built. I saw it during a visit to Pgh in 2019. It's so sad malls are closing. On another note, where did you get the Hills tee shirt you are wearing in this video? I absolutely loved shopping at Hills back in the 80's. I enjoy watching your videos, especially those from Pittsburgh!

This whole situation is so sad. Closed up stores, almost no people there, and not a single kid in line to talk to Santa. I had moved south long before this was built so I've never seen it 'in person'. I don't think I would want to.

The ceilings are beautiful. It is a really pretty mall. I have never been there because I won't drive out Route 28. That is a dangerous stretch of road. This mall isn't even close to Pittsburgh. It should have been named the Tarentum Mall. I think the location of it was it's downfall. The Scarehouse brought a lot of people in there for a couple of months this year. To save the mall perhaps they need to open some unique attraction to bring people in.

    • @mayavenuemisfit814
      @mayavenuemisfit814 8 місяців тому

I agree with you on location. Not only is the mall at least a half-hour from downtown on a good day, the general area that this mall serves (New Ken/Arnold, Lower Burrell, Tarentum, etc.) are some of the more rundown and economically depressed suburbs of Pittsburgh. Granted they're not as bad as Braddock or McKeesport, but not exactly an ideal area to build this kind of complex.
There is probably nothing on this Earth that would revitalize that mall/complex. Unless, of course, the Steelers ever leave the city and build a stadium out there. And of course we know that's not going to happen.

Macy's, dicks, bath and body, new dimension comics, and not much else in the way of stores. There is a gym there, and a few other things. It's really a neat place to walk around being it's so large yet so empty.
