Rising sun multiplayer was fun especially with bots.
The ones today are like childish. With bright cartoon circus colors. I can't take it seriously.
Purple everywhere lol
FPS games tend to be made for the Fortnite kids now. Just look at the terrible state of Call of Duty the "Medal of Honor Killer" today.
There’s a word for the crap AAA fps games they are making today.
Nobody's forcing you to stay away from the "gritty realistic shooters for real men" like Hell Let Loose or whatever.
@@GruntvcAny actual criticism except "I don't like these stupid skins"?
It's a shame that most people think that the WW2 genre is overdone. WW2 in MoH isn't overdone, what is overdone is the Normandy campaign. There are plenty of battles/campaigns that they can explore in WW2. Maybe a MoH game set in Vietnam could do perfectly well or in the Pacific Theatre. MoH is a series from the American perspective, so maybe they can explore other conflicts that the USA participated in. Still, a MoH in WW2 is what made this series special because it reminded us of TV films like Saving Private Ryan.
I think you can still explore the European theatre in different ways! But even in cod they were like here’s D day again, but not as good lol
@joethealternativegamer3935 yeah. There are plenty of campaigns to explore in ww2. The genre isn't dead they just have to think outside the box. They can go back to normandy, too, but they must bring innovations to the gameplay mechanics.
@@christianrowbotham7386 good point!
I've been saying this since about 2003. FPS games have covered about 10% of WW2, but they just go back to that 10% over and over again. They need to branch out far more than that. Follow the combat flight sims and explore wider areas of the conflict
@_Braised I think they go back to that 10% because Normandy it's the most important US campaign in WW2, and while it is widely covered in American films, it's a very popular battle, which I agree with. But there are plenty more unseen battles.
Frontline got me interested then Allied Assault, Spearhead and breakthrough…. Absolute greatest era of pc gaming. These games were truly something special
@@TheGMan. excellent stuff!
OMG this soundtrack brings back so many memories. Good ol' times
Yes :)
The music on the Frontline level "Arnhem Knights" was like something out of a good war movie. A young male soloist singing forlornly over majestic melancholy strings. Really beautiful and respectful of the sacrifice of the troops and the way the Dutch people suffered in the Second World War.
Man even thinking about it gives me chills
@Maffewsfamandcoetc I second this
That plays in my head at the very mention of it.
I feel the exact same way as you Joe. I adore the Medal of Honor series, particularly the first four games.
I would love to see the series return and fill the void missing in the First Person Shooter genre, but it has to be done right this time.
MOH: Frontline still holds up
MOH: Underground remains my favorite and sparked a lifelong obsession with the Sten and history of resistance movements
@@Milo_1368 you speak the truth! Sten yes!
This series NEEDS to make a comeback. It feels like the door is wide open. Michael Giacchino delivering another epic soundtrack would be the cherry on top. Hoping it happens one day!

Same here. Spearhead and Breakthrough as well
I 100% agree - we need more Medal of Honors. There was a VR exclusive one released a few years back with a fantastic soundtrack that was a callback to the early installments.
@@PartTimeExplorer I’m with ya! A good old fashion Medal of Honor game :)
Too bad it sucked as a vr title
One of the best aspects about the WWII line was the continuity. Barnes from AA being in a full level of Frontline, how Jimmy's plane was the one you jump from at Normandy in Airborne. How Manon made another appearance in one of the PSP games.
MOH: Frontline, was awesome. My first WW2 based shooter.
Is! :)
"Beautiful Concept Art" is a woeful understatement to some of the art made for these games! For some reason, the art gives me Balto vibes, probably because Steven Spielberg also had a hand in the production of that film. I also get the same feeling when I'm watching The Lost World Jurassic Park.
They'd never make another MOH because it's faithful to the war each game depicts. No room for goofy skins, bright pink gun camos and ''emotes''.
There’s some truth here!
There were some wacky multiplayer skins that could be unlocked. In the og game you could play as rosie the riveter, a dog and a velociraptor
Allied Assault still has one of the greatest final missions of any FPS game. And the music in that game was phenomenal.
Grounded WW2 title + John Williamsesque score? 10/10
@@foabmoab get the plane!
Medal of Honor: Frontline was the first game to move me to tears when playing the Arnhem Knights level. I was a teenager back then with a burning interest in WW2 history, and the presentation of that level really hammered home the human cost of the conflict. The spectacle of the ruined city, the savage close quarters fighting, desperately trying in vain to keep my British allies alive, the achingly beautiful choral music (Michael Giacchino is a legendary composer), it all came together to profoundly move me in a way that has only been matched by the Brothers in Arms games (another fantastic WW2 FPS series) and Halo: Reach.
Just found your channel this morning, i havevset up a video queue of all your medal of honor videos and I'm about to watch one about European Assault, god that game had an amazing opening soundtrack. Unrivalled. 😅

@@RSN1748 those are great too!
CoD 1, CoD 2, and CoD:UO had many ex-MoH developers. CoD 3 was still WWII but had a different feel, and we all know what happened after CoD 4. I loved the simplicity of single player just being a regular grunt (well, there were still some wacky scenes) and multiplayer being simple classes not driven by 1000 weapon attachments and clown skins.
I own & have played all of them, as well as all the strategy guides for each. I am currently stuck on the final brutal mission in "Medal of Honor Airborne", which is their last WW2 game in the series. I'm one of the 29 gamers that enjoyed the 2010 "Medal of Honor" (reboot), as well as "MOH Warfighter". When you buy the PS3 2010 "Medal of Honor", you also get a fully remastered "MOH Frontline" to savor on your PS3.
The reboot is solid, underrated even

I appreciate the fact that real life footage was used in the mission briefings, gave it a true ‘real life’ feel of being on the ground in Europe during 1942.
Loved the enemy animations upon death and kicking live Grenades back at you, Small Details not present in any FPS before. Which blew my tiny 12 year old mind 😂

Airborne is underrated! I just wish it had the spy stuff and that last level kinda sucks lol
We need a MOH series that goes through each major conflict in the last 200+ years. Going from the American Revolution to the War on Terror. Hell they could make it all one continuous family and give them each a different voice actor for each character.
What a great idea!
Dude, yes, and use each game as a teaching opportunity, like the originals. Adhere to authenticity, but keep it clean enough for children to play and learn.
No that wouldn't work. Maybe they can go to Vietnam or the War on Terror but not the 18th century. Personally, I would like them to stick with world war 2
The War on Terror? You really wanna open that can of worms?
Funnily enough, I've been listening to the Frontline soundtrack quite a lot lately.
I can guarantee, if they were to develop a new game, with Michael Giacchino was behind the soundtrack, the hype would be immense.
Honestly, I think hearing some of the classic musical sequences in a trailer alone would get me hyped beyond belief!
:)
I remember MOH Frontline was the first rated M game I was aloud to play because it was “historical” violence. I loved the France mission after the beach one
Hey Joe, Thank you for the indepth wonderful video. I grew up on these games and they were very enjoyable. In my opinion the reason why these games weren't made anymore was (a) An oversaturation in the video game market of games set in World War 2. (b) The end of the war on terror. I think the war on terror and subsequent wars in the Middle East have shattered the 'good guy' image of the United States and the Western Allies in general. Abu Ghraib torture scandal, the heavy civilian casualties and overall huge cost spent for absolutely no gain has made the public look at the US military differently.
Re-releasing the older games now, wouldn't be a bad idea.

I played Allied Assault and Rising so much as a kid, and a few years ago I bought them again on GOG and have been playing them again. They're better than any modern SP shooter. I also replay the Brothers in Arms series at least once every few years, they are phenomenal and I'd do anything to have another game in the series. With the new engines and mechanics we have now, it's almost a crime someone hasn't made a new Brothers in Arms.
Couldn't agree more. I played these games going back to the first title when I was younger. Having a new MOH title that expands on mechanics for disguises and subterfuge would be great, maybe have multiple characters being recruited from regular frontline infantry to special ops and have their stories converge. And possibly move away from focus on the Normandy campaign. The way the AAA industry is now though a game like that probably couldn't come from EA and would probably be more niche unfortunately
MoHAA will always be the best for me, it was my first introduction to online multiplayer, being part of a clan with such awesome people with ZERO toxicity! Those were honestly the best times for gaming for me!

Next I’ll play the old cods like finest hour and Big Red One.
Another gem is Brothers in Arms Hells Highway.
MoH:Above and Beyond is exactly what you say you want. It's very much a return to the earlier style games, yet it isn't very highly regarded. I loved it. I realize VR isn't for everybody but if you like early MOH I think it's a must have title.
Medal of honor Frontline is a valious videogame, prioritizes the sound, atmospheric and artistic aspects, achieving a beautiful artwork...
Frontline. God, that first level. My childhood!
Because (Old is Gold) And Medal of Honor Series Deserve To Back in Action!
You are correct!
I don't remember much of Frontline or even Rising Sun, since I'm more of a PC player, but the series as a whole definitely keeps a warm spot in one's heart. While MoH didn't succeed as CoD or even BF, there's no doubt that the potential can be revived, even if it means remastering/remaking the older titles. Who wouldn't want a remastered version of MoHAA?
I read a comment by a user who suggested that just by taking the idea of MoH and implementing it in different story arcs and gameplay styles than the ones that were regurgitated over and over (like Normandy and North Africa), then MoH could, arguably, hit the spotlight again. I'm not holding my breath, though... MoH: Above and Beyond was abysmal.
@@JADEK111 we need it back in the spotlight! Plus we accept all fans here! Pc, console, both!
Thats facts. I feel like old COD games, Medal of Honour, and even newer games like insurgency sandstorm, squad and even COD MW 2019 have a much more solemn tone. Which is good in my opinion considering fps games in many cases are depicting real conflicts in which real people fought and died.

@@joethealternativegamer3935Not sure what that has to do with MoH unless it was also supposed to be US military propaganda.
Nerdcubed has a video on the situation, Six Days in Fallujah only presents the point of view of the american soldiers and how they got affected by the experience while completely ignoring the horrible crimes they inflicted on the civilians there.
It's basically the same as those cops playing the victim and saying they got ptsd after shooting an innocent person.
Just because it presents real events, doesn't mean we should celebrate them

They're are many campaigns that I don't think have ever gotten games. You could have an entire fps based in the Burma Campaign or New Guinea campaign alone. Play as an Indian soldier in Burma for example or an Aussie in New Guinea. The owens gun would be that games Thompson lol. But even then so many other campaigns also like the east African campaign and most of the Italian campaign. Could even do an OSS medal of honor style gsme where you fight with the Yugoslavia partisans. So many things that despite people saying ww2 been done to death in fact are fresh and have never been done.

@@finnscheringa5415 :)
I feel like allied assault gets all the attention (at least it did for the longest time) for basically being a prototype for the call of duty franchise and therefore probably being the most influential first person shooter other than Doom; but after revisiting both I think the first two MOH games and Frontline, and to a lesser extent Rising Sun and Airborne best exemplify what made the series special.
The visual style, the way the movement and shooting feels (somewhat fast and arcadey,, but still with a fairly deliberate pace and a tone that always remains strikes a wonderful balance between authenticity and a bombastic adventure movie like indiana jones (definitely the spielberg influence and phenomenal soundtrack playing a part there) and most importantly the mission design itself is what really sets the games apart. They are unashamedly video games, they don't shy away from having shooting gallery sections, health pickups etc. and prioritizing memorable gameplay set pieces over narrative.
I also think theres still a ton of room to innovate and introduce new ideas into a potential follow up while still being a fun throwback to the older games (although super faithful remakes of the first three games would be really cool if done well and i'd gladly play them), I personally wouldn't mind a somewhat darker tone/M rating as long as it doesn't conflict with the games themes and atmosphere, but i can see how that might be tricky to navigate. Something about a bloodless war shooter just feels silly to me, although it admittedly works well for the older games
I doubt we'll get another official game like this anytime soon, but there's definitely an untapped niche there for any indie dev talented enough to take up the mantle. If something like that came out on PSN id buy it in a heartbeat
