  • In 1982 the BC Social Credit government created a series of pro-government short films to help with the flagging popularity of the party in power in the run-up to the next general election.
In this episode, the film looks at the costs to BC of large federal deficits.. The BC government brought in a program called restraint in which they tried to reduce government spending. The piece points out that each Canadian's share of the federal debt is $1,000
There is a short interview with James Hewitt, Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, and Bill Vander Zalm, Minister of Education.

Back when BC wasnt afraid to roast Ottawa. Ill applaud Horgan credit where its due to be the first premier this century to not totally lick federal boots

I know there was one of these little reports talking about satellite technology that was invented in BC and was being built in BC to be sent to a big satellite installation somewhere in Asia (thailand?). Ive been trying to find it forever it was really neat.
There was also I think one made post 80s recession talking about a plan going forward to diversify the economy by encouraging manufacturing and technology so "BC would never again be at the total mercy of world resource prices".

All for nothing. They are spending today like there's no tomorrow, on the backs of yesterday's sacrifices. Restraint in those days didn't treat the children that well.
