He DIDN'T change. He just didn't have any way to be a war criminal in episode 1.
I agree
I agree
I agree
EXACTLY. he's always been a jerk.
He might also be an NPC
I think another fact that he’s a jerk, is that since they live in a simulation, Jax believes there’s no consequences to his actions since everything is all fake
Yeah
Or (i what i think):
Jax have mental problems caused by past and because of them he's jerk and don't trust others so he's sociopate how to say and propably he knows that people don't like him that way (in real life even more propably) so he just likes that state and don't want to return because he is convinced that nobody will wait for him and also they will only annoy him by poiting how bad person he is when he can't do anything to those people because he could only get trouble but in game he can toy with the rest of squad and npcs so he is happy that his actions have almost no consequences
(The idea of this story i got by remembering how protagonist of yu yu hakusho do not wanted to go back to live because he belived that everyone is celebrating that he's dead)
@Dejroslaw2448 sociopath? Nice buzzwords but do you even know what that means? Do you have any proof for this?
@@bungiecrimes7247, it's just what he thinks.
@@Tooner-Beans why did you use he instead of they? ( sorry if this comes off as annoying im just genuinly curious)
Its confirmed that the circus members CANNOT feel pain, they can only feel pain by glitches aka abstractions
Well in ragatha's case she is literally a rag doll, so i think she cant really feel pain at all (besides glitches) + kinger cant too, he is wooden, pomni feels pain somewhat
@@scorpion_guitarist if ur talking about the 'pain' when jax threw her in the middle of the 2 trucks and her hands streching then ur wrong, because thats just anxiety, she was capable of talking while that was happening so pretty sure it didnt hurt.
@@imbackwiththmilk oh well yeah you got a point there
Thanks!
@@imbackwiththmilknot to mention TADC is an incredibly immersive, people scream and feel fear in their dreams even though they aren't REALLY in any pain, so I don't think the game would be any different
6:31 is so true, Ragatha acts like a mother for all the members, remember when they saw the candy princess? She got excited and told Pomni like how a mother would react if they saw their child's favorite character! It's such a great detail
And honestly Pomni was kinda acting like a b.
@@Luci-morningstar-- Why is that?
@@Ectacy.Mckenzie "you dont have to treat me like a kid" or something like that. Like girl shes trying to be positive. Pomni really needs to be nicer/more respectful of others.
@@Luci-morningstar-- It was not rude, she was stating a fact. She is not a child anymore. Yes she might have hurt a few feelings of Ragatha but that doesn't mean she wanted to come off as rude.

Yes
And got strangled by that arm because Zooble can still control their body parts even dislocated. But it was a fun scene.
So respectful
Its probably the most respectful thing he has done
He didn't respect her zooble is just used to his antics he's not getting responses like he's getting with the others... Zooble will clap back
I think Jax and Ragatha are examples of how different people play videogames. Ragatha is a roleplayer who enjoys playing along with the stories. Jax is a murder-hobbo who treats everything like GTA because he sees none of it as being real. He's like all those people in Tears of the Kingdom that built devices to torture korroks.
hes the person that tames cats and wolves in minecraft just for them to follow him into lava

Never thought of it that way, you cooked with this one 🔥

@@bluefreely That was the funniest moment for me XD. That line followed by inexplicably chucking pomni out of the war rig
Not the jars.
Jax is painted as an asshole, even Gooseworx confirmed that episode 2, 3, and 4 were planned before the pilot was even out, so you can't really argue that they changed his personality. He was always meant to be as an arrogant and sadistic character since the start, it's just that the fandom is too delusional to see that lol.
He acts like an asshole to Ragatha, bullies Gangle obsessively, pushed both Kinger and Zooble around, and further intensifies Pomni's manic attack when she's in the circus. He was never meant to be a character that had a reason to be evil or a reason as to why he's like this. The way I saw everything is that he was there and acted like that simply because he's an asshole. Some people are just rude for no reason besides feeling like it, not everything needs a motivation guys.
Jax is just the average online player that would skip the tutorial and head right into action while cyber bullying the other players.
and i hate those people too, so its really doesn't make a likable character
That’s what i do
That’s me
@@Kano_Productionsi think that's the point: jax is supposed to be a character that litterally DOES NOT CARE about anyone or anything.
And would fail miserably
Gooseworks: “jax is a mean person.” Jax: (leave people to die multiple times, bullies the other members, physically hurts kinger and gangle, kicks an npc in the pilot) fandom: “Jax is the best boy he can’t do no wrong.” Jax:(acts the same in episodes 2) Fandom: “why is Jax different he not this mean.”
I hate that this is a real problem
I feel like most of the people nowadays that are watching stuff like the digital circus and the sonic movies and just anything relating to video games in general are not actually gamers to an extent and don’t understand the type of people and content involved when it comes to video games so they lack the understanding of what the difference is between a troll and an jerk or that just because something looks suitable for kids doesn’t mean it is suitable for kids especially considering most gamers nowadays are adults that have grown up with that type of content so basically each Character represents a different type of player yet most people don’t seem to pick up on that
Because before he seemed like he was just joking and being silly
No, it genuinely was different. In the first one, he just acted like an asshole. In this one, he seems violent and genuinely unhinged.
@@hallownest5488I think everyone is unhinged in their own way, they're just trying not to lose it so they dont abstracte
I honestly think Jax is just irredeemable character on purpose and I honestly think that needs to be something to talk about in recent years. There has been a lot of shows where redemption arcs are just hastily put together to characters that honestly didn't deserve redemption to begin with.
At least with this character, you can definitely tell that he's not going to change and according to goodeworx he is going to progressively get worse and I'm actually up for that.
Not every person who is genuinely mean to other people is just secretly hiding they're kindness.
That's not a normal trade for anyone, also in the context of the show, there's no reason to hide any kindness or positive behaviors. I understand people have different ways of coping with such realities but in this case it just kind of feels like he's just an a****** on purpose
How is he irredeemable exactly...? The worst he did was bully Gangle, and it wasn't even that bad (as someone who was bullied way worse). (No, causing the death of npcs don't count, he knows they are not real, being violent in a video game doesn't make you a bad person) Also, he looks sad at the mention of the funeral, so he cares, he is just repressing it. But I believe in the theory that he will get worse, and I'm very excited to see that negative character arc! Him becoming a villain would be tragic and amazing.
@@claritale_ He left Ragatha and Pomni basically to die in the pilot and didn't even try to ask for help or told the others about the situation what could also kill them.
@@TheDoomBlueShellyeah, but we don’t even know if these characters can even die actually
I do believe that Jax is acting like this because it's his own way to not loose his mind. But the fact that he gets some soft moments shows that deep inside, he can have compasion. But he doesn't want to admit it because he knows that the others would take advantage of this weakness of his.
Also consider that they're basically playing live action DND. No one can get hurt and none of the NPCs are real, you wouldn't feel bad for playing a dnd campaign where you murder everyone because they're not real people. Thats just how Jax is playing this game
Jax was always portrayed as a sadistic, arrogant, jerk. That's literally his entire character. I don't understand how anyone didn't see it straight from Episode 1.
It’s the same people who simp for Alastor but worse
ok so I’m not the only one who sees that @@questworldiangreenknight7455
Literally! He’s been a jerk since episode one
I always saw it. I just find him relatable because if I was in a world with no consequences, I'd be just like him. I mess with my friends daily and I kill hundreds in games, if I was stuck in one I could only imagine those tendencies getting further unhinged
Except for that one crack in his facade in EP2. That makes me hopeful for his development.

I feel like Jax is gonna be a minor antagonist of sorts until he’s sorted out in later episodes (if he ever *is* sorted out), but some people were surprised at how Jax “changed” as a character, but he’s always been a terrible person.
He said it himself in the first episode, he’s just there to have fun and make others suffer, he’s probably not insane because he’s spent his time doing what he likes to do, and he has really no one to step up to him.
Yap Yap Yap Yap Jax is just crime committer I don't think he's paid his taxes either.
6:03 "ragatha got a knife in her head" meanwhile kinger with 5 knifes in his head.
A theory I heard was that he looked sad for a moment, because they wouldn't feel sad/hold a funeral when he abstracts.
I think he was sad because he really liked koufmo or your theory but I really hope we see him sad again ❤
Or perhaps he doesn’t like being reminded of abstraction, since that’s the only thing he seems to genuinely fear to some extent.
Wait that's actually sad :( 😫
But he was sad at 20:05 minutes when there talking about Kaufmo's funeral he becomes sad for a moment
I mean he might think the but they would defo feel sad when he abstracts. and hold a funeral
Jax definitely puts on a "tough guy act" because, in episode 1, you can see that he is scared, but as soon as he turns to kinger, and gangle, he goes back to a sarcastic face. Same in this episode when he's sad about kalfmos funeral, but covers it up, and goes to his room to hide himself actually caring
It's his coping mechanism ig
Yeah, if he really didnt really care, he'd show up and ruin the funeral for everyone else for laughs..
That is a great observation/theory of the character Jax, because many people actually face with the type of problem Jax faces as well, I myself has been in Jax’s type of problem before
He's the embodiment of "I feel like I'm the worst, so I always act like im the best"
Yes but he does not care about anyone besides himself he literally tortures the other circus members to keep himself sane and does not care about pomni when she was literally on the side of the truck dageling for her life so ye he is real nice is he?
I feel like the violence and assholery is kind of a mask, a shell, to hide what he really feels like because maybe he doesn't wanna feel or look weak? In a way anyway

@@Loki.Leviah1337 This is like my POV, I don't like Jax' personality at all, but I like him as a character.
I think he is kinda like alastor from hazbin hotel, gooseworx also works on hazbin hotel so it wouldn’t be to unlikely for her to take inspiration from hazbin hotel, I think that both of them care some amount about others (even if it isn’t everyone) a example: the way he respects zooble is kinda similar to alastors relationship with Charlie, they both have respect for each other, they are also both narcissistic
Jax isn’t any different in episode two than episode one. You just got more time to see his personality. In episode one he literally left Pomni and Ragatha to die, and then lied about it to the others.
The characters don’t feel pain. The only reason why Ragatha and Pomni felt pain in the first episode was because they were getting glitched out by coughmo
Its "Kaufmo" Not "Coughmo"
Jax literally gets choked by Zoobles arm and reacts with a pained, albeit cartoonish, expression, and Pomni is clearly in pain when suspended between the two trucks
which i believe triggered a thing in their system that allows them to feel pain
Coughmo? It’s Kaufmo😭
I rhink it's just Ragatha that can't really feel pain. She's the only wool-like person in the circus, so stabbing her really wouldn't do much
My responce to the fandom blowing up about this is "Wait you thought Jax wasn't a complete asshole to everybody in the first place?".
Episode one he was openly disrespecting Ragatha and Zooble, bullying Gangle & Kinger, and trying to trigger negtive emotional responces from Pomni while she was having a manic episode upon entering the circus.
Right?? 😭 like I’m not sure why people are surprised
TADC fandom when the character that spends the whole pilot episode needlessly antagonizing everyone and is stated by the creator to be someone who will be shown to be worse later on is worse later on: 😱
That's just bad writing though, and it's starting to show just how shallow the writer is being about Jax. Unless we're misunderstanding Goosworx real intentions. If Cooper wants Jax to be some kind of scumbag, that's fine, but that's not the impression I got. He did all that stuff in such a comedic light you could never take it seriously enough to actually pin it against him.
And when he did have semi-serious moments, it was him taking charge. Overall he came off as being more of a realist just trying to survive boredom. He was a jerk but he was genuine.
So in short, he went from being a respectable jerk wad, to being a childish thrill seeker. If you want your character to flesh out a certain way you gatta flesh him out a certain way. Y'know?
@garrettcarlson6835 that's just how morally wrong chaotic characters work. They tend to get worse as the story goes on the beginning is usually pretty tame compared to what happens later
@@garrettcarlson6835I want to challenge that then, do you feel like a lot of villains in other forms of media are poorly written/shallow just because they are evil? I understand that you may want a reasoning or more deph but some people can just be evil/an asshole because they want to be. The end goal could be more important than the reasoning which for Jax seems to just be chaos or some way to stay sane idk

Ragatha: ohh cute mobs! Is it an adorable creature that explodes of happy?

3:36 bro she is a doll get it?
Note to everyone that sees this: Jax did not change between episodes. He was always an asshole. One of his lines in the first episode was "I'm fine with doing whatever, as long as funny things happen to people"
He's a being of pure chaos that embraces the side of humanity that laughs at the suffering of others (admit it, you do to). He knows the NPCs only exist during the adventures and cease to exist when they get back to the Circus. He knows there's no concequences to his actions (because Caine clearly lied about his hundreds of all-seeing eyes and also doesn't care if something gets destroyed). The creators of the show specifically designed him to be a horrible person (Gooseworks states that he's her favorite and that he's the one that deserves to be in the purgatory-like world known as The Amazing Digital Circus the most)
Yeah this is really weird for people to act like his character became cruel and mean based on nothing but some hidden soft side that people attributed to a character after him being present in maybe half of the single 25 minute episode. It’s very strange.
Did gooseworx say he was 100 percent evil in some random tweet? If so i want to see it. Because im not going to look on that horrific site.

Kinger is the goofy ahh one but still friendly and able to take charge.
Pomni is the person trying to be normal 😂
Kinger feels like someone's grandpa who doesn't know what a video game is
I once saw a theory about the TADC and I don’t remember who shared it, nor the full extent of the theory, but I want to share what I know of said theory anyway.
So basically, the theory goes along the lines that the avatars that represent the humans trapped in TADC reveal like their personality/the opposite of their personality and probably gives insight to their lives as humans.
For example, Pomni is a jester. Jesters are usually laughed at since their whole purpose is to entertain. She was probably treated like a joke (as a human) hence the avatar as a jester, which (maybe) represents her being treated as a joke/not really being taken seriously.
With Jax, his avatar is a bunny rabbit. When you think of a rabbit, you probably think of a cute, sweet creature.
The point that I’m trying to make here is that perhaps Jax is (or, well, WAS) actually a very sweet person (his avatar in TADC representing that) but chooses to act tough out of fear?
I mean, being in a situation like the main characters would definitely be very stressful, so I can imagine Jax closes off his feelings in fear of, I suppose, “feeling” too much and giving into his worries too? I’m guessing being rude and cutting off from people is his way of coping, probably.
Anyway, I’m sorry if what I shared doesn’t really make all that much sense lol I really wish I remembered the theory, because it really was interesting.
There will be a point where Gangle gets done of Jax's bullshit and confronts him.
It's not like there was a sudden writing decision to make him more unpleasant; the full series outline and first few scripts were set in stone before the pilot came out. If you ask me, this is just how Jax acts on adventures when he's not trying to keep a low profile from a monster.
This. There was no major threat in this episode, so of course Jax was gonna be more extreme because there wasn’t something he had to fear and hide from! The Candy Canyon Kingdom just had NPCs, so Jax could be as wild as he liked without consequences
@@YanberryYinanaYeah that was kinda my thought process- The candy people are NPCs so I mean I think it makes sense that he would go all out with the violence and wildness.

I agree. People are looking for a secretly nice guy character like Angel Dust since it’s another UA-cam pilot and the same va, but Jax is a realistic sociopath. He has the capacity for sympathy but lacks actual empathy. This is how people actually are psychologically. You can’t realistically have him do the stuff in the pilot as fun gags and then just also be super sympathetic. It’s a really ignorant misunderstanding.
It was not head canon, just that he didn't show a straight up psychopathic personality in the pilot, he was shown to be just a douche

It kinda feels like you dislike Jax's violent perspective, but how can you say that without talking about how they are NPCs. Ragatha says that they might bring back old NPCs so it would make sense for Jax to be violent knowing that his actions most likely have no consequences and if they do, we know he'll show no remorse. Jax is my favorite character and I don't think he needs any development. I don't think any of the characters do except Pomni, who needs to learn to accept her fate. Jax even tries to help her do that. Him abusing her is his way of showing her that none of it matters so just play along.
How did jax changed?? 😭😭 I thought he was just disappointed because there wasn't any chaos and battle things 😭
Same
Watch the video
When the first episode came out, I theorized a bit about Jax's character, and episode two really seemed to confirm what I had been suspecting; Jax is not a good person... but there's more to him that meets the eye. I'll start by saying that the circus members all seem to cope with their circumstances differently; some have more apparent coping mechanisms whereas others aren't so obvious. To understand what I mean, we can take a look at Ragatha and her state of mind.
Ragatha's coping mechanism is obvious; she does her best not to think about it. When she's talking to Pomni in episode one, talking about their circumstances at length almost causes her to have a panic attack. She says herself that Cain's adventures are something of a distraction, and out of the whole cast she seems to be the most willing to participate. She keeps her mind on what's right in front of her; both the people in her life, and the objectives she has to work towards. This allows her to remain kind, but it also makes her vulnerable to abstraction; if she were made to consider her circumstances at length without anything to distract her, she's more than likely succumb to the same despair that overcame Kaufmo and abstract.
With that said, we can look at the other characters.
Zooble seems to be a somewhat apathetic person as a whole, and is able to use that to their advantage. They are able to avoid the throes of despair in the same way they avoid being overly enthusiastic. It works for them. Kinger manages to "cope" in a similar way to Ragatha, but I don't think that he's doing it intentionally. It seems like his short attention span and selective memory just seem to work in his favor, as abstraction seems to result from despair or psychosis, and he isn't mentally present enough for a long enough period to really succumb to either condition. I don't really have a good read on Gangle yet, but my best guess is that her emotional well-being has less to do with her actual circumstances and more to do with having people around who she can interact and talk to. It might have something to do with the way her emotional state has something to do with her actual physiology, but I'm sure we'll learn more later.
Then there's Jax.
I'd say Jax has the most... _extreme_ coping mechanism out of the bunch. He seems closer to Zooble than the others, and I think it's because they're actually somewhat similar in both their personalities and way of thinking. Jax seems to have a very nihilistic outlook on things, and so he seems to find Zooble's apathetic outlook more agreeable and likes pissing them off, because Zooble just claps back and he doesn't have to feel bad about it. To those that aren't familiar with the term, nihilism is the belief that "life and existence are without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value." I feel like this summarizes Jax incredibly well, but rather than being his actual mentality, I think Jax uses nihilism as a coping mechanism.
He seems to embrace chaos and violence, and seems to have a total disregard other's general well-being. In slightly different circumstances, I would call him a psychopath, but the thing is... Jax doesn't even seem to care about _himself_ all that much. Nothing seems to matter to him; their circumstances, their feelings, their adventures... none if it matters, so what is there to be upset about? Sure, he doesn't like to be inconvenienced, and he still gets frustrated and disappointed at times, but it doesn't _really_ matter... so who cares? Who cares if Kaufmo abstracted? Who cares if none of them are ever getting out of the circus? Who cares about a bunch of dumb NPCs and their dumb kingdom? The thing is, _he_ does. _He_ cares. He just puts all his time and energy into convincing himself not to, because it's painful. It doesn't help, and so what's the point?
I don't think that the reason he skips Kaufmo's funeral is because he thinks it's stupid. No. If those were his actual feelings, then he'd probably stick around and make a mockery out of the whole thing. I think he leaves because he _needs to believe_ that it doesn't matter, and if he actually stuck around, he might not be able to maintain that pretense. He doesn't go there, and he refuses to go there, because that's how he manages to cope with the fact that they're stuck in a simulation and nothing he feels or does will save them from that. It gives this sort of depressing undertone to his character that I really appreciate, and I feel like it makes him more interesting than just letting him be an unapologetic asshole.
With that said, am I defending Jax? No. Jax is a terrible person. While his attitude is a result of his means of coping with their situation, it doesn't benefit anyone aside from himself. He puts his own self-preservation before the emotional and psychological well-being of the people in his life, even when he's well aware of how it makes them feel. His attitude might have very well played a part in Kaufmo's decline and eventual abstraction, and he might even be aware of that. It's possible that he might have also avoided the funeral, in part, because deep down he knows that it would have been disrespectful for him to attend when he hadn't ever so much as _tried_ to be a positive influence in Kaufmo's life. He chooses to not care, and in turn, he's more alone than any of them. It makes me wonder if we'll eventually see what kind of person actually lies underneath that facade, and whether there's anything worth saving. I hope we do.
TL:DR - Jax copes with his circumstances by being a nihilistic asshole and shoving any meaning any meaningful emotion into the back of his closet and I think he's neat.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk about cartoon on the internet [clown car honking] oh look, my ride is here, thanks for reading, goodbye.
woah this is a really thought out analysis of them all. I do like Jax as a character as well, and with how things have been going i'm excited to see where his (and everyone else's) character arcs go. thanks for your thoughts on this!

Ten outa ten Ted talk would read again
*Get back clown car I need part 2 of the theory*
I really like your analysis but I think there's another angle to consider. I like to look at Jax through his relationship with Caine.
For now we don't know much about the origins of the circus and how people ended up there, but one thing seems clear. Caine has basically full control over the place and does everything within his power to make it as pleasant as possible. However due to this, the world becomes very childish, lacking the depths of actual reality as Caine struggles to remove all the pain and bad things(like swearing). So while Caine is essentially trying to create paradise for the people stuck there, he actually ends up doing the opposite, because we wouldn't see so many obstructed characters if everyone was happy.
I think of Jax's behavior as a representation of human nature. Because we are beings who are profoundly evil. We crave bad things and need pain in order to feel happiness. Jax behaves the way he does because he's unapologetically human. In fact I see him as the most realistic out of the cast.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I feel like there's an underlying theme here about how absurdly detached humans are from perfection. Because Caine's chasing of perfection is what makes the world feel like a trap to everyone living in it. And Jax is the one fighting against it and trying to show what humans actually want.
Yeah, this got quite messy. I think I'll still put it out. Thank you if you read this far, I'd like to know what you think.
He hasn't changed if anything it's very much just his character
I kinda felt like this was his way of dealing with Kaufmo's death, either because he feels guilty or he misses him. Even though he doesn't join the funeral, he still shows his emotions when they talk about the funeral

@@bungiecrimes7247well first of all, show dont tell is supposed to be in the writing of the actual show, doesnt mean anything about outside of it. second of all, these are just small details about the characters that probably wouldnt even have time to be shown in the actual canon, and third, theres only 2 eps as of now and maybe she just wants to share some things about her character without having to wait for the eps to come out, she isnt just gonna stay silent on social media unless its like spoliery

Actually he is gonna get worse
@@amaterasu1145 Yea, didn't Gooseworks and the voice of Jax confirm that he would just proceed to get worse? 🤔
One of the most interesting thing about this show to wonder about is how they are actually stripped of their humanity, we can see it clearly in characters like Jax and Ragatha, cuz Jax clearly loses himself to this fact like ‘If nothing is real, why treat it like it?’
He knows no one is really being hurt bc they don’t have real bodies to hurt, so he tries to make the most “fun” out of being ripped out of the normal reality of things, he accepts it and there for, doesn’t treat others well since they are all (him included) reduced to just codes stuck in this amazing horrible show for ever until eventually they lose their minds anyway.
While Ragatha has a more healthy way around it and unlike Jax, she refuses to let the game strip them of their humanity, she treats everyone like they are real feeling individuals, even the A.I who doesn’t match that first thing. She makes the most of it by not letting herself set loose, with a bright future perspective that they could find a way to leave somehow but insisting that meanwhile they are absolutely fine as long as they keep being human.
This is my a bit of my analysis on those two, sorry for the length of it 😅 I really like this show and the characters are all so interesting to think about ❤

Your comments about Jax and Zooble's dynamic are interesting, mainly because the voices behind them (Michael Kovach and Ashley Nichols) are a real world couple.

it's just my opinion, but I think jax do mean things to stimulate others so they don't get abstracted (or at least that what he believes). Maybe he ever experienced where his friend got abstracted because everyone was so nice and he think that there must be such a villain to keep everyone's mind sane.
Honestly I also noticed jax being more of an a-hole this episode instead of a prankster and it was really uncomfortable to see him just be a flat out jerk instead of being a jerk and funny.

Some people feel that Jax changed between episodes because people think Goose did a change to the script. But Goose did say that the scripts for episode 2, 3 and 4 are already locked in before the pilot relased which means no last minute change at all. If anything it’s just that things don’t matter in the circus other than being abstracted. There’s no consequences for being rude and he’s only gonna get worse as more episodes come out.
Maybe the time between each episode made some people lean too hard into what they think will happen vs what will happen.
I feel like the reason feels no remorse for killing the npcs is because they arent people. The reason he cares about Kaufmo dying is because he *was* a real person.
Yeah the NPCs literally aren’t really why should he care about them honestly?
I disagree on the idea that they aren't real people. This world is clearly run by artificial intelligence, and one of the reasons there's so much fear towards the idea of ai is that it's technically possible for it to become advanced enough to be sentient and capable of it's own independent thought. This is already seen in that the npc's have shown the same qualities of people. They contemplate their lives and the universe, they can be scared, have existential crisis's related to how real they are, love and care about others, and make choices of their own free will. These are all qualities of sentient beings. Just because someone isn't a human doesn't mean they aren't a person, and it doesn't make their digital lives worthless just because someone like Jax is incapable of humanizing them.
Jax is still torturing sentient beings whether he believes they're real or not. Gummigoo has already shown us that fact when we spent time learning about him.
@sardonicus1739 yeah but gummigoo didn't start out sentient, he gained it after going through the mindbreak of figuring out he was an NPC. Otherwise i agree with the other commenter, they're just pieces of code with backstories that can be rewritten whenever.
Jax just seems like the average person, who cares about what happens to bots inside a game? especially when you're stuck there forever.
@@Sky-Daddy I disagree. We literally see him having a friendly conversation with his group before the player characters even show up to hear it, including him worrying about his mom. A non-sentient entity would have no need for small talk and would basically just be an empty object that doesn't need to move or do anything until the players are close enough for it to be immersive for the person playing the game. That's how computer games work so that frame rates aren't tanking. Often if you're not actively in the same loading zone within short distance of the npc, npc's in games aren't actually doing anything and are just in their default tposing state as that's better for optimization.
Instead he's having a life, thoughts and feelings completely regardless of whether the players are near him for that information to be useful to them. He clearly was always sentient, and then had an existential crisis for obvious reasons when falling through the map. Not even just him. The rest of them are too. They're just not questioning their own existence cause they don't know what he knows.
What you're saying is like me saying you're not sentient until I see you scared, and it was only after I saw you scared that you became sentient, when no you were still a person before you showed fear.
@@sardonicus1739 conversations in games can be scripted and prewritten, that same example could apply to the queen becoming quick friends with ragatha. It's all just npc conversation (along with them being ai so they can generate some form of dialogue) until they end up breaking the script and glitching out to the model room causing gummigoo to become aware.
As for the loading issues, tons of open world games both old and new can render in distant objects and people depending on the game, and since they're in the middle of a canyon with absolutely nothing out there it's not farfetched to assume rendering wouldn't have issues.
Caine said himself they're using a new ai so it makes sense they would be able to have some sort of indepth conversation, especially considering how ai converses irl rn. I'm still convinced they were npc till the model room, and don't really blame Jax for wiping the kingdom cause tons of people would've done it lol.
2:24 Actually, Jax asked if Ragatha was afraid of centipedes after she asked him if he had a key to her room.
Yeah, it was to get a response, he already knew
This could also mean that only Jax has access to Kaufmo's room probably because they're besties or smn
7:31 I probabably could, I do share alot of character traits with jax, so that could be why he's more bearable or maybe it's because I love his voice(I have a thing for voices)

Considering jax is being mean to keep him sane, he really has no reason to become a good person. He is either doing what he is doing to cope with the insanity of the circus, or maybe trying to get himself kicked out (which i highly doubt). By the most chance he is coping, he mustve been in the circus longer than most others and therefore already going insane. He will be either punished or abstracted. Nothing in the middle

Just realized that Jax is just kinda like us in some way, like when we play a rpg game with many endings.
