Good content! Been going through your videos. Curious, what’s your mpg like? Average speed? I’m assuming it’s always in S4?

Thanks! We average around 12.5mpg aka “smiles per gallon”. I would guess average speed to be 65mph (outside of California). And you’re right, s4 keeps the transmission from switching back and forth between gears. Overall we are pleased with how well the 4runner is holding up👍🏽

@@weekdayadventures appreciate the response. Got it, it’s what I’d expect! Anyway that in the future you could do a video of how you have the trailer and 4runner packed to balance proper weight such as “tongue weight”?
We are truly considering doing something similar next year, so I thought about selling my 4runner, but watching your videos makes me think about keeping it and trying it out. Im sure by now you have a ton of miles with this combo.

Awesome rig I have a 14 trail premium and plan on getting a small camper soon.

Nice, reasonable build. No steel bumpers, winch, and 35" tires to crush your payload and tongue capacity. Been thinking about getting a new trailer myself and wondering what my 5th gen can handle. The biggest limiting factor on these trucks really isn't tow weight but hitch weight. I need to account for having my whole family and dog...which is about 550 pounds. With 1,165 total payload, there's not much to work with. Added weight of roof rack, ladder, bigger tires and rails barely leaves me with 400 pounds for the hitch, and that's if I put all cargo in the trailer. The only trailers so far to fit within my specs (based on weights and configurations) are the Jay Flight 15 or 17, and an RPod. I like the Nobo 16 but the tongue is too heavy.

Thank you! There are a lot of things to factor when building a rig to tow a trailer. Thanks for watching!

Thankyou for sharing your setup. Maybe I'm missing something and or my lack of familiarity with 4Runners is the problem. But having a tow rating of 5k lbs, does this vehicle not come with trailer braking capabilities from the factory? Sure seems like 5k lbs is a lot of weight for a vehicle to be rated for towing without braking capabilities included as standard? Safe and happy travels to you guys. Thanks again.

The 4runner does not come with trailer braking unfortunately. They say it has a 5k towing limit but it’s more like 4500-4000. Either way we had to go with an aftermarket trailer braking system. Thanks!

@@weekdayadventures That's really strange for Toyota not to include that considering the towing capacity of a 4RUNNER. I get it on vehicles with a 1000-1500 lb tow rating to not include it. Wise decision on your part to add trailer braking. Thankyou so much for the reply.

Did you do a re-gear to 4.88 for towing. I see the Lance 1575 is light for a slide out, but seems to be pushing it for a 4Runner at over 3500lbs. How does it feel towing over mountain passes?

No re-gear yet. Tows fine, could use the extra torque on the big hill climbs. We’ve been traveling since March 2022 and have had no major issues while towing👍🏽

What transmission cooler did you use?

Not sure exactly. I had bought one but it was too big so I just had the shop order one for me.
