As a Diluc main, he holds a special place in my heart for being the first 5 star I ever got, especially on the standard banner. He’s my best & main pyro character for good damage, pairs well with Nahida & Keqing (both also holding special places in my heart), & Xiao is an extra bonus with doing damage, causing swirl, & making burn affects last longer (also holding a special place in my heart). I’m not letting go of Diluc anytime soon. He’s my boy, he’s my man, he’s my pyromaniac.

Qiqi was never meta in abyss, she only was top tier because on 1.0 most of the players challenge still was on overworld and his exploration. She started to decay until people noticed the existence of energy recharge and how valuable it is.

The passive works very well as 20% more atk allows you to still go EM sands, and the passive is long enough for whole rotation. Second 20% atk after getting damaged is awesome with C2+xingqiu who adds resistance to interruption (yelan still better for damage tho). His crit rate ascension with 33.1% crit rate weapon gives you 57.3% crit rate in total on lvl 90 with no artifacts, with high effort you can end up with 100 crir rate/200 crit dmg (about 240 CV needed) (crit value = 2x CR + CD) while still having 200 em from em sands, and some atk% subs are most welcome in this scenario. This weapon easily pulls above any claymore for almost all claymore characters in the game (only not for Eula and Itto cuz they have signatures). Sadly, this weapon will probably never reappear, but I am very happy to just have one.
When abyss floors are tailored to the newer characters, that does effectively make Diluc worse. He got better than he already was with the addition of burgeon, but even so 9*ing with him only got harder over the years
I mean if you compare them then he is in fact "bad" meta wise. You can put the same amount of investment in Hutao and Diluc, and get different results. Heck even Keqing and Tighnari, same standard characters highly outperformed him. He needs a buff, a buff only for him and not other pyro characters.

Bennett and Xiangling were launch units with higher multipliers... He was always undertuned, people just didn't build proper supports so Diluc's straightforward approach made him seem strong

A Diluc main joined and helped through Dragonspine. They also had Raiden Shogun who is my personal favorite character. Finding Diluc mains brings me so much joy as a Kaeya main
