  • I'm updating our Purple Martin bird house apartment entrance hole shape and size. The classic crescent shape is no longer deterring our neighborhood sparrows from taking over the apartment complex. In addition to changing the hole to a modified Duke's Excluder, I'm reducing the number of apartment units from 12 to four. Watch to find out why.

WOQ!!! You Sir, are a very very determined Man, and you are very focussed on making those entrance holes just the right size to allow the the Purple Martins to enter, but to deter and exclude Starlings which are enemies to the Purple Martins! I commend you and thank you for your huge amazing efforts however, for very very little, you can purchase pre-cut entrance holes and they can be fitted over a larger hole and screwed into place with just a few hex head screws! You remind me of me when I was a much younger man, determined to find ways of excluding Starlings!.. LOL.. either way, you did a fantastic job Sir and I love your video!

Thanks. I have a couple more to edit and post. I'll do these before the purple martins start to migrate north again. These have to do with attracting them with sound (and getting rid of sparrows nicely). Subscribe so you'll be notified when those are posted. Thanks for stopping by.

Move your opening down the floor. Starling has longer legs and can get in almost eney thing that is up off the floor

Call Troyer Bird Paradise and get a catalog. Order the entrance covers. Do yourself a favor.
