- There was a heartbreaking turn of events in game one of the World Series as Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez took to the mound just hours after his father died of a heart failure in Dominican Republic. His 63-year-old dad, Daniel Volquez, died of co... #InsideEdition
omg imagine just thinking how happy ur father is watching u right now about to win a world series not knowing he's passed🥺🥺😥
Good thing they one that year
Who knows? He could of had an even better game. But, why not tell him? He deserved to know before the team did.
@@AccountTermed the family didn’t want him to know though
@@AccountTermed you have to honor his family's wishes. who knows if that could have caused him more grief, then on top of losing his father he'd also have to bear with losing the game for his team.
if you say his father is gone, he wont be able to concentrate on the game, and I am sure his dad would not like that to happpen either, so at least they get a 50 50 thing
"I'm pulling you in the 6th inning of a World Series game. Oh... and your dad died this afternoon... and we've all known the whole time. Way to toss those innings for us, though" *slap on the back*
Ban Fasso angers me to no end.
We've crossed internet paths before, haven't we? Refresh my memory....
Well his wife told them not to so
He should be upset with his family if anyone. The team was simply following their request. Would you want a team that doesn't follow the familys request?
Brandon Sly Maybe ask for a divorce too because his wife is the one who told them not to tell him
I'd do what the family says to do do.
Doodoo indeed
Yup. When we were at sea on Submarines, typically news of the death of a family member was withheld until we returned to port. There was nothing else that could be done.
In this case, it is a tougher call - however I think they did right by following the wife's suggestion/request!

Absolutely.

It's better to tell him after and not in the middle of the game so no one sees him break down in such a happy atmosphere

True
Yeah God forbid people see other people's natural emotions. Dumbass
@@bathroomsama5909 or hes pitching in the biggest moment of his life and they didnt want to ruin it for him. does that sound better you jackass?
@@Peterisheree No. He deserves to know. Just look how annoyed he was after the game. Imagine pitching for your dad then realizing he wasn't there for any of it. And like other people said, maybe he would have dedicated the game to him. Or, not played. His choice. Jackass
They should've told him in the beginning, who knows, he could've gave it his all, for his dad
Rob Baez
yeah
Rob Baez first off, his wife specifically told the management not to tell him. Know the full story dumb ass
Rob Baez I would give it all for my dad and he would be proud if he was dead
Rob Baez well he obviously had a emotional effect once he heard... so then he was obviously gonna have his game effected....
+Fype Lythal it's the 1 game there's moe games for a comeback
So happy he won a ring
Mr. POPO Ya he did.
Sadly his dad wasn’t there to witness his son win 😢
@@HAA0603 ikr that’s sad 😔
Damn i wouldn't wanna know that either until the end of the game or else it wood be on my mind and affect my pitching
I understand your comment was 3 years ago but still I feel the same way if someone were to have told me that, I wouldnt want to pitch at all. In high school I was one of the best players on our squad but missed practice the day before our game because I had to take my dog to the vet to sadly put him down I didnt tell anyone I just told a trusted teammate of mine to tell the coach's it was a family issue, so next day comes I'm benched for missing practice and I'm in the dugout trying to focus coach tells me in the 4th to come in on a tight game with the opposing pitcher dealing and runners in scoring position I strikeout and my next AB lined out after that day I hit a huge slump so understandably I wouldnt want to know of a death of a family member during a game aswell
@@bryantcuriel1641 damn I'm sorry for ur loss bro. As some1 who has a dog she's literally my motivation so i can understand how that impacted u. Hope all is well for u 🙏

Its best that they let him pitch his first World Series game. Then he could mourned his dad in private and not let his dad death cause him to be distracted during the game.
Yeah , what a distraction. 🤦♀️

We've been on youtube for far too long.
Just recently my grandma died like 3 weeks ago... But a could of days before she died i had a game against a very good team. I am a freshman pitcher and this is my very first varsity inning. So my heart was already pounding. 1 inning before i go in my mother pulls me out of the dugout to tell us that she has hours to live and my emotions were lost I didnt know what to feel. My mother and brother rushed over to my grandmas and i stayed and pitched. I made me pitch so hard and I actually did pretty good. Even though i almost cried on the mound it made me pitch harder.
Aww I'm so sorry for your loss ,if your grandma was there to watch you play I know she would be very proud
NightHawk in sorry for your liss
Loss
Sorry for your loss
Thanks Grandma
Ultimately it wasn’t the club houses decision, it was the family. I think they should’ve let him know right away, but it is their choice and they know him best and I’d trust they do what’s best for the pitcher.
His wife told the clubhouse not to tell him and they did what she asked them to do.
It was his first game pitching, his family didn’t want him distracted so they requested his team not to tell him. There was basically nothing he could do at the moment, he was thousands of miles from his father. It would have taken him hours to get to his families side in the Dominican Republic. So They waited until the sixth inning and pulled him out to give him the news.
This was done perfectly. If I was the pitcher, team or family this is exactly how I would want it.
I'm a royals fan and I remember this

Same.
It was only 3 years ago. Not hard to remember
James Eaton same
James Eaton I'm a DiamondBacks fan and I don't remember this
I went through something similar but not as bad. I'm only in 12u softball but I had pitched my best game ever, and afterwards I found out my pitching coach, and best friend, passed away from a heart attack. We were really close and it took a while to get over it, but I kept pitching and playing and I've gotten alot better
i’d feel like i’d want to know right away, but they were right to honor the family’s wishes 💛
I wouldnt want to know, that’d throw my game off
@@tobi3983 exactly
@@sussybaka6345 there’s 2 ways it could go. It could throw his game off or it could take his game to another level because he could feel like he was pitching in honor of his father
I remember this, I’m one of his biggest fans ever and O cried when I heard about it.I was sad for him.
Edison Volquez my deepest condolences and thoughts go to him and his family and friends. RIP to his dad.
That's also respectful to him in that not only does it help him keep his head unknowingly on the pitcher's mound, but allows him to cement his career so that his future for his family will be secure. I'm sure that if his dad could tell him, he'd be proud of him for accomplishing that and wouldn't want his son to know that he had passed when in such a high pressure situation already. Sounds like he has a good wife, too. It was years ago, but my condolences.
How would the team find out before his own son thats strange.
604jade His mother found out first and told the team to not tell him before the game.
His wife*
Kyle And Merryl thank you, geez a bunch of idiots on here commenting and not listening to the video.
totally understandable...
jason! I mean... his family requested they didn’t tell him.
It was a very risky decision because if he found out he would either do better or do bad thinking about it and being sad
Godbless man that’s sad 🥲😪
Who the hell should tell him? His wife said no. He deals w/ his wife. Have some family respect.
I just started to cru when i read the title. so sad. PRAYERS
It's the family's decision and right to do so
His wife was the one that said not to tell him. Christ, does any watch the videos or read article any more or do we all just comment with our emotions?
Only thing my grandpa wanted by his side for his last few minutes was his son, My dad never got over not being able to say goodbye. Im sorry this happened to you.
The World Series isn’t that important when it comes to a death in the family
The father's death couldn't be reversed as is happened quickly. And the family requested for him not to be told, maybe because they felt that the father would have wanted his son to pitch in the World Series as good as he could. I agree that a father's death is more important than any game, but we should always honor the family's wish.
The wife requested it.
God damn... such a sad story.
Rest easy buddy hope you have a nice rest
i remember this. was so sad
I’m Dominican and that’s heart breaking
The description isn’t even complete.
Wow I did not know this how sad
my parents waiting until the end of my varsity game to tell me my dog had a heart attack🥺
I’m very sorry for his father
He looked completely different without the hat lol

I would want to know right away.
God bless you all and your families 🙏🏽✝️🛐🛐
Imagine they didn’t win and then they still had to tell him
bro i remember when this happened! was it that long ago?!
This reminds me of michael jordan when his dad passed away and it was the nba finals
Was in a similar situation in the past, I think it is ok that they dit it this way, they allowed him a very big positive memory on the day he got such sad news.
Volquez: Am I the only one who didn't know?!
Sad 😭
I watched this video 4 years ago as a kid and now that I’m 16 and my dads no longer here with me it’s completely different
Is it just me or does the anchor low-key look like loki?
Exactly what happened to me right before school
there's no way you don't listen to the family's request
No matter what I was doing. First, middle or last of anything. I would want to know if my father is dying.
“After 5 years, why is this on everyone’s recommended page?”
UA-cam algorithm that’s why
My family didnt call me till I have ended work at night to call me and tell me my grandfather died in the afternoon. Said that I was at work and was worried for my safety......but if it’s a family emergency, I can leave early...
so sad
Imagine playing a game and ur whole team knows that ur father dies and u don't. I feel so bad for him. RIP
R.I.P. daniel Volquez

*doesnt put the fact that his family was the ones that requested them to not tell them in the title*
😢😢
When a close one die you should know right ahead not after your match
I mean the family did tell the Royals not to tell him
A few years back my cousin died in a car crash (17 years old). My uncle and grandma went to my mom's work mid day and told her, of course she wasn't able to stay working so she came home....why couldn't they have just came by after she got home?
He's become the main character if a sports anime.
Sad
R.I.P to his dad but he looked like he didn’t even care im soooo sorry for your loss tho 😭😭
What the Fuck😑!!!! There is NO EXCUSE FOR THAT. If I were that pitcher I'd tell the team where to go and sue
Marco Noonan they did it out of respect for his family's request....his family was who told him about his dad's passing.

Was that Tom Hiddleston?
If I was him I woulda been okay with this. It’s not like my Dad or loved one is gonna come back to life. The living have all the time in the world to grieve
Honestly, could've turned out either way finding out. BUT, I'm glad his wife didn't take the risk. Rather his first game be regular degular, than a chance of really bad instead of really good. Imagine the backlash?
I agree to
That’s messed up
We miss you in Cincinnati Volquez
Man, that's a tough call for the family. I would hate to be the one to have to make that decision on whether or not to tell him. They said it was his wife who made the decision. I wonder how that went over after he found out. A wonder if they're still married after that one. Poor guy.
They were playing the Mets... My family is a HUGE Mets fan....
Thats just cold
I feel bad for his family and him
Sad news 😭😭😭😭😭😭
You don’t decide what someone needs to know, especially if it’s anything to do with a loved one’s passing. Prayers going out to Edinson and his family.
Your career shouldn't be ahead of your family. That's why when people get old, most regret not spending more time with family. It's a story song by so many old people.
Yea, that’s true. But hey, it’s hard to put yourself in his shoes to understand the whole situation
He deserved to hear about it first.
you know what i'm saying he was a beast you could not tame him
Wow thats like a reverse surprise party. I think they should have told him.
Wow. They put a win before the death of his father. That’s pretty sickening
They were honoring the family's wishes.
Oh man I'm a supporter of a royals cause I live in Kansas
It’s still messed up. Family is more important than the game:(
Should've told him, Probably would've pitched better!!!
They didn't want to devastate him
His family told the team not to tell him. It was their decision.
I know this is Inside Edition, but maybe they could tell us if he was sick for years or if this was unexpected. And I think the family probably should have just kept it among themselves until they told him.
I’m from Kansas city. Why was this in my recommended
