  • "The true history of Bruce Wayne (Batman), and Dick Grayson (Robin)... how they met, and why they devoted their lives to battling crime and evil... the creation of Batman's mysterious disguise, and his secret weapons!"
Side A from the 1966 Leo the Lion / MGM Records LP: "The Official Adventures of Batman and Robin" (CH-1019). Of note is the fact that this is likely the first time that Batman and Robin's origins were depicted outside of the comics. The dramatic nature of the material seems unusual given that these records were released as a means to cash in on the Batmania craze started by the campy TV series the same year.
Some may recognize Jackson Beck's (narrator) voice from Popeye (Bluto), Filmation's "The New Adventures of Superman" (narrator, 1966), "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" (narrator - intro sequence, 1980s), and many other TV series and films.
    Voice cast:
    Jackson Beck (Narrator)
    Jack Curtis
    Ron Liss
    George Petrie
    Dan Ocko
    Ian Martin
    Barbara Louis
Directed and Produced By: Her Galewitz
    Written by: Ronald Liss
    Sound Effects: Cinema Sound Ltd.
    Director of Engineering: Val Valentin
    Sound Effects Engineer: Tom Courtenay-Clack

I had this record when I was a little kid, wore the grooves out on it... hadn't heard it in over 40 years, and yet I listened to it so much that I'm remembering all of it - having flashbacks to my childhood! Thank you for posting this!!

My God! We had this and another one or two albums from the ‘60s and thought I’d never hear it again. Wonderful!!

We had this record as a kid but I wasn't sure I hadn't imagined it (I was very young), hearing this again has been amazing. Why can't they seem to make audio dramas like this any more? So evocative in a way movies and TV are not.

Jackson Beck of course narrated the "Superman" radio series and Supes's first animated series.

Both Thomas and Martha Wayne and Bruce were returning from a movie theater and not a dinner party. And,the bat had flown into Wayne Manor and not outside in the garden. Also,Dick Grayson was not injured when the rest of his family was killed during the circus act.Robin also never drove the Batmobile until later…”Holy Comic Book Goof Ups Batman!!!”…Karl Schumaker 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇

Thanks for posting. I too had this in the early 70s. Great memories. I wore the record out and it used to get stuck at 1:08 when the narrator said "forces of evil ...forces of evil....forces of evil!" haha. Cheers !

I, too, owned this record in the 60's. I think it's at my sister's house, but I no longer own a record player. There was another record in this series which I also had - one of the stories involved Bruce having a nightmare where he gets married and the woman discovers his secret identity. You wouldn't happen to have that one too?
Thank you for reconnecting me with a piece of my childhood.

Wow. Never heard that one, but it reminds me of an episode of The Animated Series where Poison Ivy was creating plant women who were stealing all of the bachelors in Gotham.

DJ Skeletal - I’ve located the CD I burned years back which has both this and the other record I discussed earlier. If you’d like, I could rip the other record for you. Won’t attest as to the sound quality, but if needs be perhaps you could fix it up. Interested?

Crazy, I had no idea this existed! This is better even than the TV series with Adam West and Burt Ward, at least in terms of accurately conveying the legend of Batman and Robin.

This is quite possibly the cheesiest Batman media I have ever seen. And I've seen a ton of cheesy Batman media. I own all the Filmation cartoons. I've heard the radio pilot and all the Power Records stories. This is up there. I'm glad that children have access to better entertainment now and can explore things they like in stimulating ways with modern technology and media access
I wonder why they changed details about the origin if they were trying to promote the comics. One would think they'd want to keep that stuff consistent so the kids have some familiarity with the stories when they hopefully start reading for themselves. In any event, this is an interesting novelty and I'm happy to be aware of its existence
