Of course. He was the first guy to make the kind of money he was making when he became THE FACE of the first national organization......and they gave him more control over his character than anyone before him. In a business where a mistaken or sloppy move in the ring can put a guy out of action for a year or even end his career, anyone with a functioning brain is going to try to stay on top for as long as possible.

Can't blame him for that if I was in that business I'd want to be that guy just like with UFC I'd want to be the guy like Conor McGregor who is selling the product and making the money otherwise it would seem really pointless to put your well being on the line

    • @JohnWicksmagazine

People didn’t think of the business like he did. He knew what it took to be at the top, and if he didn’t see it in you, he let you know.
Can’t hate on him for wanting to put over something that will be almost or just as big as his run. Why drop your spot for someone who could potentially ruin what the sport is supposed to look like at that time? But he did hold on to that ego for a long long time!

I hate it when some one calls wrestling fake. It’s staged, but the bumps are real. How many of our childhood wrestlers (for me the 80’s) have passed away. Seeing Piper one time say, tearied eyed, all my friends are dying young. I never met Hogan, he was my main wrestling hero. But I’m happy he is still among us. Going to his shop and meeting him would be a dream. Not sure I can keep it dry though. 😅

He may not be the BEST guy in the world.
He may not be the BEST father.
    Or the BEST wrestler.
He might be a liar at times for his own ego.
    Hes not perfect.
But dont think hes not intelligent.
He was smart enough to treat this industry like a job.
He knew what he had to do to make money.
And hes a damn hard worker.
A lot of times the most succesful people you see, in any job, are people that werent afraid to step on others toes, or stretch the truth to their benefit.
Its surprises me 0% to see hulk speak intelligently and truthfully about the business after so many years.
But hes definitely that guy weve all worked with that go promoted faster than everyone, but was a total prick.
    That was hogan.

    • @6Glamslam9
      @6Glamslam9 Рік тому

Hulk hogan doesn't deserve any respect from wrestling. He literally is saying that he ruined others in order to stay on top. He always managed to take the spot light from everyone he worked with. He also never truly pass the torch to anyone. How can you say that you respect a man who's whole carrier depended whether the Iron Sheik would pass the torch to him? If Hulk Hogan would've pass the torch or at the very least help those that build him up then I wouldn't think he was such a piece of shit. He fucked up or screwed every wrestler he worked with. Iron Shiek, Andre The Giant, Randy Savage, Kurt hanging, Rick Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Bret Hart, Undertaker, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Everyone in WCW, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton ect.. notice that everyone of those names are regarded as greatest or are more important, significant than Hulk Hogan, and they didn't need to put others down or fuck up someone's push. Hulk Hogan was and industry hack that never considered that if he played ball and was a team player, then he would've made more money impact and had a perfect legacy. Non of those guys and others wanted to work with the fucking guy after he pulled his creative control.
You must be a casual or new fan to even consider respect and Hulk Hogan in the same sentence

It’s a shame he lies so much about trivial things, because he has so much wisdom to give on the business. Then when he does say something worth listening to, people are less inclined to take him serious. For example, he’s speaking truth here, but let’s remember, this man said Elvis was a massive fan of his; however, Elvis died shortly after Hulk performed one of his first house shows ever. Also I have to throw this one in here because it’s just so priceless; Hulk said he’s fought roughly 400 days in one year, as well know there’s only 365 days in a year. But Hulk said this was due to the time change between Japan and America, he would wrestle in one country and then fly to the other country and compete twice in the same day.
For Hulk to have done this he would have had to competed every day of the year which is not humanly possible. But let’s just say he did wrestle ever day of the year, for roughly 30-35 of those days he would have had to wrestle in Japan and then come back to America to wrestle because Japan is 14 hours ahead of America. A nonstop flight from America to Japan takes roughly 11 hours and 30 minutes. My head is going to explode typing this, that’s how much this doesn’t make sense, so instead of going into all the ways his statement of ‘wrestling 400 plus times a year’ is wrong, I’ll just leave it at that. Even if a super human lived somehow and could possibly have the energy and to do this, mathematically speaking, this is wildly impossible brother!
Despite saying all this, I am a huge fan of Hulks lies and I hope he continues to weave these beautiful webs of lunacy.
Keep fighting on for all the Hulkamaniacs out there brother. Good stuff! 🇺🇸

I get why so many Wrestlers hated hulk to be Frank. As a matter of fact, I will also say that I believe many other wrestlers when they say that terry was a compulsive liar. I really do believe this guy is the original HHH. The only thing Hulk didn’t do was get married with Stephanie.
    However, I will say this:
    This business is DOG-EATS- DOG.
During hulks time you didn’t just have to be a shrewd businessman/promoter like Vince in this business; you had to equally be as ruthless as a wrestler/talent to get the spots you could manage to obtain.
Terry (Hulk) was simply using his appeal to the audience to get that top spot and get as much money as he possibly could.
To many wrestling purist, not wanting to put another talent over or keeping the top spot for himself; not wanting to help the youth or speaking to mid-card talents or not wanting to do jobs for rising talents is sacrosanct.
But something I realized was Vince McMahon didn’t actually pick out traditional minded wrestlers during his time. Let’s not forget that hulk is a byproduct of Verne Gagne-the original OG who kept his company strap to himself and his family.
I think this interview solidified the fact that hulk was a piece of shit from the perspective of the Bret Harts of the wrestling world, but in my view, Hulk was simply taking full advantage of what he could to continue to entertain his massive fan base (that included me and I am still a hulkamaniac) and to maintain relevance in the sport. God knows many old talents are jealous of hulk because they didn’t have the will or smarts like hulk did.

Some wrestler get multiple chances to reinvent their character and image before they make it big, some wrestlers didn’t even get the first chance. Also you can argue that Vince stifled professional wrestling as much as he made it grow.
It took Vince over a decade after WCW was created to finally create a second weekly show called “Smackdown” when the whole reason guys left his business in the first place was because they weren’t getting enough money, exposure or ring time due to the explosion of new wrestlers wanting to come in and prove themselves.
The sport grew tenfold, the fans grew tenfold and so did the roster backstage and yet almighty god of heaven and earth Vince continues on with his Monday night raw which at best could fit maybe 7 or 8 matches at most. Between tag team matchups and backstage promos you could give maybe 15 guys some half decent exposure to the crowd.
And how about the fact that he kept the writing as simple and retarded as possible and had no in-house acting classes to help character development?
Because good writers can make any character entertaining and it upsets the stranglehold that a handful of guys have on the entire industry…
“And that just ain’t gonna work for me, brother”.

    • @EmeraldGnostic

The entire industry was built upon throwing no names to the wolves before they could find their groove and make some decent money in the business. Also Vince made more money off of you by owning your character, so you were pressured by upper echelons to go along with something that was chosen for you which makes you even more uncomfortable than you originally were, making it harder to be entertaining but it didn’t matter, Vince was gonna make a couple million off of your merchandise sales and then kick you to the curb after you confront him about not having enough money to live.
A cut throat business man who you definitely want on your side, but definitely would never want to work for. So greedy however that he stifled the entire industry for a good couple of decades in my opinion.

He gets way too much credit for the NWO. He only joined Hall and Nash(who btw were already the most popular act in the company without Hogan) bc ppl were starting to boo his Hulkamania gimmick. Ppl were tired of having him at the top and he found a way to sneak his way into the hottest thing in the company. I really believe Macho Man would have been a better leader for the group when they started and would have finally put him on that level with Hogan when it comes to all time lists.

Savage was the best option as he was, he wouldn't have had to change anything about himself but his allegiances and actions but Hogan turned himself into legendary heel in every way.

Yeah but Hogan being the biggest baby-face EVER in wrestling then going heel to join the nwo was HUGE and SHOCKING to fans I don't think anything else would have worked

No. As popular as Hall and Nash were, it absolutely WAS (it's not a debatable point) the shocking heel turn from Hogan that MADE the NWO. Again, this isn't disputable, it's factual.

As if Bret Hart wasn't a mark for himself. He was such a mark for himself that both Scott Hall and Mark Callaway had to basically say to him that this business isn't about just you and we deserve our spots and much more money as well.

Every wrestler was a mark for themselves in the 90s. Hogan Warrior, Savage, Nash and Hall, Austin, Rock, HHH, HBK, Bret, Goldberg, Undertaker etc. Its because the business had more larger than life mega stars at the same place, same time.

It’s not about that hulk just cared about the business of making money no matter who he had to step on he is not on my Mount Rushmore just because of the way he handles himself outside of wrestling that has to factor in
