    While headed to another job, I turned down this street and drove right by this overgrown mess. So, I jotted down the address and came back later to get it cleaned up. While taking some before pictures with my drone, a homeless man tried attacking me thinking I was taking pictures of him. Eventually he left as I locked myself in my truck, but I had to keep a close eye over my shoulder as I got this lawn looking great again!

    Dear MR Spencer,
    i am jacko from the netherlands.
    I have been inspired by your work and as from tommorow i am going to clean up a big balcony for an elderly couple who are living in the same building as my 77 years old father.
    Just like you i am going to do it for free!

    Thank you again for inspiring me.

    Spencer, clearing and cleaning vacant properties is mor than just the appearance. We had a vacant house next door to us, and it became the home and nest for rats. At night, they overtook my wife's vegetable garden and cleaned it out. They can spread disease and can also spread fleas and ticks to domestic pets. The owner of the house was putting it on the market and discovered it was used by a addict who was squatting there. After cleaning, repairing, and landscaping they sold it to a good owner. The addict actually threatened me and another neighbor for standing in our own backyards. Keep up this vital and much needed work.

    You should place a lawn sign outside places you do for free promoting your business. Something like, “this clean up was donated by @SBMowing and UA-cam followers, learn about us and our channel by…” and add a QR have code and your website? For abandoned places you can leave the lawn sign and ask permission of residents when the home is occupied. Just a thought.

      I think the regulations governing home restoration loans need a good looking at. It strikes me as wrong that a young family can get a mortgage for a "flipped" house but not a smaller mortgage/restoration loan to do the rehab themselves. After all, the flippers make a lot of money off the quick fixes. When my parents got married they bought a 3 bedroom solid brick semi detached house built in 1903. They were the second owners. It needed everything, but it only took them 3 months to make it livable. They took possession in January of 1959 and moved in when the got back from their honeymoon in April of that year. They were lucky in several fronts and could make it work. A young couple now is behind the eight ball.

Once you put in the work for restoration and your home gets assessed for value and every job gets assessed for value the taxes just go up and up and up. Many are discouraged bc it can take so much money to repair and what if you can’t get your return before the tax bill comes? Banks aren’t loaning fairly. Black rock and others buying up most of America. It’s near impossible to get a loan on land without a structure. The system is designed for the elites to win and for us to lose. We need a systems overhaul

    Thanks for cleaning this one up, it really needed it!!! From the front looking at the driveway, I thought there was a garage In the back, but it turned out to be another house! That one is no longer structurally sound and should be torn down. The front house might be a fixer-upper. So many weed-trees next to the house, good to get them out of there!!! Great job, Spencer!!!

      These days habitat prioritizes using bare lots for new buildings. Much of the time it's too far gone to rehab existing buildings. That may not be true everywhere, but it was in Kansas when my grandma passed a few years ago. Had planned on donating her home, but they wanted us to pay to tear it down, so my family sold it to a man who turned it into a rental.

      As a brit I don't think I'll ever get used to the fact that people in your country are allowed to carry guns let alone a policeman advising someone to do so. I was warned by a police man for answering my door with an empty glass milk bottle, he said it was an offensive weapon and I could be prosecuted opening the door with it in my hand. We always leave our empty bottles on the front step for the milkman to collect. Just don't do it when someone knocks on your door or you risk being prosecuted. Even though it saves a trip doing it later when no one is about.

    • @DanielCravens
      @DanielCravens 10 місяців тому +5

      @@jeanauguste-f7i Haha, 'offensive weapon'-that's a new one for me! But hey, I'm going to start using it now. Yeah, gun laws can be all over the map depending on where you are. I'm not out here telling everyone to pack heat, but I gotta admit, having that extra layer of protection for my family is kinda reassuring. But hey, carrying a gun isn't for everyone, that's for sure. I always tell folks, if you're not ready to pull the trigger when push comes to shove, do not carry a gun.

      Are you someone who also drives around to find abandoned homes to keep up with yard work? The town or city hires workers to do lots of these chores. The taxpayers pay for it. Shouldn’t the taxpayers deserve to have the city maintain these places. If it’s abandoned then the city should take care of it, or auction off the property. Don’t be shaming the neighbors, it’s not their responsibility.

People were so proud of these little 1, sometimes 2 bedroom homes, and took immaculate care of both in and outside. Many couples added additional rooms on, themselves, if they wanted to stay in them, as their family grew. I wonder the same thing. Some may have been actually been planted or left on purpose. My other question is when cutting down the young trees and bushes, why leave stumps, instead of cutting ground level so they won't trip someone. That leaves a hazard. Otherwise the places do actually look great! Leaving the cut tall grass though can smother out the grass below encouraging weeds and diseases Especially smaller yards like that. Just something to consider. On a good note though, your work is greatly appreciated!
