Phenomenal show! Really entertaining and time flew by. Karen is awesome and glad to see the Count again. This whole panel are just the coolest people ever. Thank you all and special thanks as always to King Pardo. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I really like your new guest, Karen. She provided a lot of insight and her mentioning Sabbath and Black Flag- instant credibility. Please have her back.
My taste/experience lined up the most with Count Ralph, Chris Alo and Steve Keeler who I had four matches with each. I usually match up with Skow, but he went pretty underground with his favorites. Best answer was Nick's "Killing Joke" for most underrated.
Depeche Mode and Duran Duran surprised me because I thought that they were pop bands and I shouldn't like them. But I was extremely wrong. Love both of them. And they're not a guilty pleasure at all. Great bands from the 80s. 2 80s bands I listen if I'm not in a metal mood.
Love the Mothership shout-out. They would've been my "Favorite Band to See Live". They never disappoint and Kelley is an absolute beast on that guitar.
am a big fan of Rammstein and I can state that they actually are one of the biggest and most popular bands in Europe. They easily sell out stadia for four or five consecutive nights. Unforgettable show and strong songs go together here, even if you don't understand German. A must see at least one time in a lifetime.
I absolutely love Chris' full on belly laughter after Ryan shits on Saboton at 2:08. I've noticed he's the kind of guy who obviously enjoys good humor, but you know you've make a great statement when you get him to laugh out loud.
@@joedolenza7944 not that i know of...she was just awesome on the HVS. great taste and much knowledge beyond the usual suspects. i know that doesn't help much. but i hope she is invited back.
I love coming back to this channel to check out the HVS. I appreciate that everyone's personality and music tastes vary, yet you can all openly discuss what you like and dislike and have fun with it. This episode gave me a long list of music to check out, thank you. P.S. Karen was great, I'd love to see her on more.
Truth be written, I rarely due to time constraints (as I have to get up early for work) watch our Monday night brethren yet when I do, I’ve enjoyed watching and this show was among my Top three from you all as you all have done a fantastic job and as kick ass as you regulars always are, Karen and Bryce are a true welcome to this lineup. Great episode.
This was an excellent topic that led to a lot of interesting discourse. It's also good to see hear the perspectives from the newcomers! Bryce knows his stuff and I'm impressed with how he comes up with some of the more obscure bands from back in the day. Citing WASP as a favorite was cool, used to be one of mine too, but Blackie's well ran dry long ago and I don't hold out much hope for anything new. But at least they're touring again. Kudos to Nick and Steve for the mentions of Amorphis; phenomenal Finnish melodic death that doesn't get nearly enough recognition. I really appreciate these SOT shows, the way they're managed, and the constant flow of content--Pete does a tremendous job and everyone brings something to the table. To that end, and this is just my opinion, I'd appreciate if Chris could save his rants for the subject matter rather than the length of the show. He's a knowledgeable, funny guy who definitely makes things interesting, but I'm siding with Butch when he suggests the shows are for the viewers. Absolutely. I for one don't visit thinking I hope the show ends quickly--otherwise why bother? We're here to be entertained, and to that end, these guys do a great job and the interaction among them is terrific. If Chris is really annoyed or pressed for time, he should give his picks earlier and then leave--just like Mr. Keeler did. Simple enough. But don't complain and negatively influence the others. It's not all about you. All in all, SOT was a terrific find for me and I always look forward to all of its variations.

The thing is, the fact that Rammstein can sell out stadiums in the US (and everywhere else) and sing in German, is a testament to how good they are. And they are phenomenal.
So good to see Macabre getting some love. Really underrated pioneers of extreme music, and remained quite original and unique up until the Murder Metal album (unfortunately, the last couple of albums have been quite weak for their previous standard). Props to Ralph.
@@countralfus6408 Absolutely. And I really love Dahmer too, killer (no pun intended) production by Neil Kernon. Murder Metal has a couple of filler tracks, but plenty of killer as well. Ha! Ryan! In yo face! Discharge is one of the few bands I WILL get to see! Seeing them this Saturday at Revolution Calling, a hardcore punk festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Paid like a hundred bucks (90 Euro's) for the entire 12 hour long festival just to see them. Don't know the other bands on the bill, but like fuck I'm missing out on Discharge, or I'll never be able to see them again.
Great pick with The Cardigans, Ryan! You forgot to mention their ingenious cover versions of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Iron Man! I also discovered them in the 90s and, of course, had a crush on Nina Persson for a while, who hadn't? What a great, unique singer. Do you prefer their early 60s-influenced pop or their later, more pop-rock-oriented stuff with hints of folk rock? My favorite Cardigans album will always be their first international release 'Life', although it's a similar case as with AC/DC's High Voltage because it contains the best tracks from their Swedish-only debut Emmerdale, and some weaker tracks from Emmerdale replaced by all-time classics such as Carnival. I also prefer the re-recorded version of Rise and Shine to the one on Emmerdale.
Hello! I loved this episode and some of my answers mirror what a couple of you said: Band(s) I Hate: GNR (Overplayed, overrated and worshiped for what reason IDK?!) & Poison (They just suck, period!) Band(s) I Love: INXS & Led Zeppelin Band(s) I Can Listen to Over and Over again: INXS & Led Zeppelin (When I get in the car, I'm always trying to decide whether I want to listen to Kick or Led Zeppelin IV.) Band That Made Me Fall in Love with Music: INXS (I was thirteen and in class when I heard the guitar solo and wondered who is this? When I found out, I wanted that song. When I couldn't get the song, I wanted that album. And I got Listen Like Thieves for Christmas. The next year, I got Kick for my birthday and the love affair was ON!) Band That Changed My Life: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (I liked her because she could sing, play guitar and make rebellion look sexy.) Band That Surprised Me: Duran Duran (The fact that they're still around and are serious musicians.) Guilty Pleasure: Justin Timberlake (Sexy Back people, c'mon!) Band I should've seen: The Rolling Stones (I could've seen them in '89 when they played at Arrowhead Stadium, which was down the street from my house. And 1994 when I lived in Kansas City and they played in Columbia, which was two hours away.) Favorite Band I've Seen Live: INXS (I saw them in '88, '94 and '97. They live up to the hype of being one of the best live bands.)

I'm w/you on Bon Jovi and Led Zeppelin. The Queen statement is a bold one but, I get it. I like Queen but I don't love them.
Band I love: The Fall. Yes!
Mothership followed by Reverend Horton Heat, that's a double dose of Dallas, TX right there...
a lot of fun. great show guys!
Fantastic show! Thank you!
Love this. More Karen please 🎸👍🤟
Great to hear some Bazza love from Pete. I bought his album ‘Manilow Magic’ on vinyl recently. Fantastic.
Yo, Pete…again love the Hudson Valley Squares. I am a former long time Hudson Valley resident….lived in South Fallsburg for about 42 years….moved to Monticello for 4 years and now have been Norwalk CT for now almost 4 years. Btw, Chris Alo is f’n hilarious!
Karen Rocks! Great addition, very knowledgable and fun. Excellent show!
Band I hate: CCR (John Fogerty's voice sounds like a whiny grinder, every song sounds the same)
Band that’s overrated: Pearl Jam and Guns and Roses (based career off a good debut and did nothing remarkable after)
Band that’s underrated: Kim Mitchell (great guitarist and singer)
Band I love: Roxy Music
Band I can listen to over & over: Doobie Brothers
Band that made me fall in love with music: Cheap Trick Live at Budokan cassette tape
Band that changed my life: The Clash
Band that surprised me: The Cruel Sea
Guilty Pleasure: ABBA
Band I should've seen live: The Clash
Favourite Band to see live: Gogol Bordello (gypsy punk band, most hectic high energy live show ever)
Another fun episode and Karen is a great addition :)
Band I hate: Faster Pussycat, Poison (need I say more) and Ed Sheeran (the acceptance of musical mediocrity)
Band that’s overrated: Motley Crue
Band that’s underrated: Magnum and Saxon (they deserved more)
Band I love: Iron Maiden
Band I can listen over & over: Pink Floyd (the run from Meddle to The Wall is sublime) and Rush (their entire catalogue).
Band that made me fall in love with music: Quuen (they sounded and were larger than life) and Def Leppard (they were my gateway into harder rock)
Band that changed my life: Pink Floyd (music could be more)
Band that surprised me: The Beatles (so young, so brief, so profilic and so bloody good) and Riverside (gateway to looking at bands beyond North America and western Europe)
Guilty Pleasure: Tori Amos (few channel uncomfortable intimacy better) and A-Ha.
Band I should've seen live: Pink Floyd (with Waters) at LIVE8
Favourite Band to see live: Maiden, AC/DC and Rush (no other bands fill me with more joy).
Saxon is definitely underrated. Been around since 1977 and they've been consistently making music ever 3-4 years now. Have more albums than Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Motorhead would had made more had Lemmy not died in 2015.
@@takodabostwick8507 It's not just the volume of releases (though that is impressive) but more importantly, they've been of real quality.
Alo is king! Love when tries to speed things up and nearly fell off my chair about what he said about Poison!!
Also, have Karen on every week!
Nicolas Emmylou Harris Heaven Only Knows is one of the happiest songs ever! Was just listening the other night.
Nicholas, I actually came across a video from some concert honoring Emmylou Harris and a band called First Aid Kit did one of her songs...I believe you mentioned them once.
Great episode. I had to google "crust punk".
Karen was a great addition to this episode. Loved her vibe.
Someone just needs to play her the first six Aerosmith albums 😀
'The Blond Ambition Tour', one of best live performances of the 80s
Excellent show! Karen should feature more!! Was brilliant listening to her
Band I hate-Arcade fire or any artist that's considered indie for that matter
Overrated band-queen
Underrated band-Juana Molina (Argentinian pop/folk artists who should be way bigger than she is)

Band that made me fall in love with music-the ventures
Band that changed my life-the scorpions
Band that surprised me-Ulver
Guilty pleasure-Dua lipa

Favourite band I have seen live-Coroner
I Love Black Flag!!! Especially their early 7” inch releases before their first album. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great episode! Also, a band that went from guilty pleasure to one of my favorite modern bands is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard..incredible band, they take it to while other level live..lot of different albums don't love all of it, but most recent releases have been incredible, Pete check out and review there new album Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava
Ha! Ryan!
I concur with Karen about Def Leppard and Aerosmith. 100%. Good call on Roky and The Mummies!
Hello! I loved this episode and some of my answers mirror what a couple of you said:
Band(s) I Hate: GNR (Overplayed, overrated and worshiped for what reason IDK?!) & Poison (They just suck, period!)
Band(s) I Think Are Overrated: Nirvana (One album doesn't make them legends people!) & Aerosmith (A bad retread of The Rolling Stones!)
Band I Think Is Underrated: INXS (Why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame IDK?! Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, U2, Pearl Jam and Green Day are already, WTF?!)
Band(s) I Love: INXS & Led Zeppelin
Band(s) I Can Listen to Over and Over again: INXS & Led Zeppelin (When I get in the car, I'm always trying to decide whether I want to listen to Kick or Led Zeppelin IV.)
Band That Made Me Fall in Love with Music: INXS (I was thirteen and in class when I heard the guitar solo and wondered who is this? When I found out, I wanted that song. When I couldn't get the song, I wanted that album. And I got Listen Like Thieves for Christmas. The next year, I got Kick for my birthday and the love affair was ON!)
Band That Changed My Life: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (I liked her because she could sing, play guitar and make rebellion look sexy.)
Band That Surprised Me: Duran Duran (The fact that they're still around and are serious musicians.)
Guilty Pleasure: Justin Timberlake (Sexy Back people, c'mon!)
Band I should've seen: The Rolling Stones (I could've seen them in '89 when they played at Arrowhead Stadium, which was down the street from my house. And 1994 when I lived in Kansas City and they played in Columbia, which was two hours away.)
Favorite Band I've Seen Live: INXS (I saw them in '88, '94 and '97. They live up to the hype of being one of the best live bands.)
INXS does not deserve to be in the Rock Hall. Australia Music Hall of Fame, definite yes. One of the guys from Tastes Like Music said that.
@@takodabostwick8507 I used to subscribe to that channel but now I don't. This was before I heard this. Now I don't feel bad unsubscribing. BTW, Never Tear Us Apart has been covered at least a half dozen times. Adelle is recording her cover as we speak. And a popular song on Spotify that had 1B downloads sampled Need You Tonight. They dominated the music scene from the mid to late 80s to early 90s. So, I don't know who you think deserves to be "inducted," but I think you're wrong to say the least. As far as Taste Like Music, I could give a @@@@@ what they say. Two out of three of them are morons anyway. And, if I ever come across that episode, I'll tell them so like I'm telling you!

Rob, LOVED that you mentioned Insomnium...AWESOME band!
Lot of Punk Rock mentions this episode. That April 1st announcement has come to fruition, muhuhuhahaha.
I agree with Butch. I’ve always hated the guilty pleasures thing. I will never be ashamed of anything I listen to.
Karen was awesome! Seems like everyone wants to see more of her!
Steve don't burn through your picks like that. We do like to hear from you.
He's definitely a fucking oldster alright! About the hate one at least.
Agreed! Steve feels like he's gotta blow through his picks but others take up just as much time as he usually does! Justice for Steve🤣
@@vacantalleyways Justice for Steve!

Do this same topic for the In the Prog Seat show! Great topic and fun show.
I'm with you Pete my favorite band to see live is Dream Theater. Seen them 26 times. 1st time was Jan 1993 at a small club in Providence and fell in love them.
