Great Perfects. I’m always on the hunt for brass Perfects. Hardy’s reels are such wonderful works of art. Thanks for posting this video.

Thanks for checking it out. I don't have any brass Perfects, but they are amazing reels.

They are hard to find and now have reached prices that are tough on the wallet. Master crafted tools and great pieces of history.

Steve Godshall is amazing not only at redoing reel seats to fit old Hardy’s, but also an amazing rod builder and line designer. Great reels! Thanks for sharing!

Size stamping is closer to the post WW1 time. Late teens early 20's. Not all Hardy's are stamped consistently. Sizes were stamped on many reels but not all reels, along with makers marks and full name and model stamping. Gorgeous reels Kevin. With the lineguard that 3 1/2" is a true gem. Tight lines! *(PS: those appear to be rotating guides. The groves in the rings indicate as much though they might be extremely stiff)*

Hey Chris - Thanks for checking out the video. Yeah if there is one thing consistent with these teens-30s reels, it's inconsistency. I've wondered about these lineguards, but have been hesitant to really give them a twist.

@@KevinHospodar If you're feeling ambitious use a little bit of reel oil and just try to gently twist them side to side. Make sure you go in both directions to help the oil get into the gap. I do not have a pre war with a lineguard, though, so I am not as well versed. I do know that my 50's vintage perfect was almost impossible to rotate but once it moved, and with a little bit of oil, it worked just fine. I can't get over that 3 1/2" though. Good grief that is a reel and a half.

@@lesterismyname good idea! Sadly the 3 1/2 hasn't seen much use recently, I sold the rod that it was paired with.

@@KevinHospodar Blessing in disguise! That reel should be displayed, perhaps mounted on a vintage Hardy Perfection with an old Hardy fly. I would be scared of damaging such a rare reel! But I appreciate the desire to use such a unique piece of fishing history.

Kevin: I have been given a Old hardy perfect 3 7/8" maybe 4", right hand reel only, single paw on inside, no set screw to remove plate/spool, screw is on plate post, no size written on it, on outside of reel plate just Hardy Altwick in circle, has PAT No on inside of cage where paw is located. Any idea of age ?, looks like it might be older than whats in your video. I am not a collector, but a user, am I being stupid to use this reel. Thanks for the video.
