This song was derived from the Irish (I think?) traditional song, “Wexford Girl.” Very old! A good example of an old, twisted Murder Ballad, as well as a good example of a broadside ballad passed down and changed, Knoxville Girl is known as an Appalachian murder ballad. Cheery!
