'Te Ahi Kai Pō' translates to the 'fire consuming the darkness' and is a reminder that we must always hold fast to what is important. To remain resilient and resolute in the face of absolute adversity . Peace out.

This is what music does. It's like opera: even though you don't know the words, the music moves you. Your reaction was beautiful and honest.

Great Reaction Buddy, So as you know we are Māori we're Tangata Māori from Aotearoa (NZ) We express everything by "Full Body Language" We shake our hands to signify " We are alive " shaking hands(wiri) sez " LIFE " we have a god of heat waves we move our hands like him like a heat wave moves. When expressing an item the movements depict the words of the song. (ie) the word love - hands would shake over yr heart etc etc at 12.05 they're saying An enduring fire, that can't be put out.. so if u watch their hands their depicting a ever increasing fire🔥 that just builds .
    Kia Ora - Live Well

What is this world that I face?
I would be nothing without you
Why was your life wasted in this battle?
    The sea of red coats
    The land stained with blood
Lost you are to the pits of the earth
    My peace is found
    My heart is still
    I feel your presence
As the fire burns away the darkness
    Shine my beacon
    Shine through the despair
Shine through the darkest of nights
    My beacon
    My peace is found
    My heart is still
    I feel your presence
As the fire burns away the darkness
    My fire is sparked
    By Kautetetū
    My fire is sparked
    Its heat is intense
My cold skin will be warmed
My quivering body will be warmed
    An enduring fire
A fire that will never be extinguished. Peace out.

The intense emotion comes from the huge loss of lives as the Māori people defended their country from the British just like many other nations before them.
And the memory's carried forward never to be erased carry forward never to be forgotten. Even in the nations national Anatham (God Defend New Zealand)
      I love this song!

When you have time, check out Stan Walkers new track 'I am'.
Stan is a Maori artist who was sought out by American Director Ava DuVernay to write a song for her new film 'Origin'.
Stan infused some of our Maori Culture into his composition - I think you might enjoy it.

Today a wiri can mean lots diff movements like shimmering water, heat waves falling leaves etc.
However I can recall my kuia/karua (elders)saying te wiri (hand shaking) movements represent the flight of th piwakawaka(fantail)bird.

In love your reactions , they're real and raw.
What is the wiri in the Kapa Haka? The hand movements are called 'Wiri' .
The wiri (quivering of the hands) is an integral part of Māori movement, seen in haka, as well as making the movements deceptive, which is essential in the arts of combat. The haka pre-dates the arrival of the earliest Pākehā explorers and settlers in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

When their hands vibrate its called wiri. It symbolizes the living world around us. Tree branches moving, water shimmering etc Its a way of connecting with nature

What does the Māori shaking hands mean?
Kapa Haka, a traditional Māori art form | The Kid Should See This
“Haka is all about the expression of your inner energy. The shaking of the hands,” says Johnstone, “that's an expression of our life force … it's showing that there's an energy within you.” In Māori, kapa means a row, line, or a company of people, and haka means dance. Peace out.

      @whetuification 11 місяців тому

Stop Using " Google Search " Just let a Real Māori Who Knows What Their Talking About To Answer The Question! Haka is NOT A DANCE - Kapa DOES NOT MEAN LINE - So again Do Not Educate On Others Cultures via Google!!

I don't speak Maori so unsure on the validity of the translation but here's the lyrics as Google reports them in Maori then English.
He aha rā te ao e hora nei
Ka kore noa ahau i a koe
Nā te aha rā koe i moumou atu ai
    Ko te kura
    Ko te kura koti whero
    He onekura toto te whakangarotanga
Ki te riu o te whenua
    I tau ai taku mauri
    I tau ai taku ngākau
Ka rongo ahau i te aroha
Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō
    Taukapo mai taku hinātore
    Taukapo mai i te pōkerekere
    I te pōuriuri
    Taku hinātore
    I tau ai taku mauri
    I tau ai taku ngākau
Ka rongo ahau i te aroha
Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō
    Ka hika taku ahi
    Ki a koe rā kautetetū
    Ka hika taku ahi
    He ahi kā
E mahana i taku kiri māeke
    He ahi i tāmō
He ahi e kore e mātao
What is this world that I face?
I would be nothing without you
Why was your life wasted in this battle?
    The sea of red coats
    The land stained with blood
Lost you are to the pits of the earth
    My peace is found
    My heart is still
    I feel your presence
As the fire burns away the darkness
    Shine my beacon
    Shine through the despair
Shine through the darkest of nights
    My beacon
    My peace is found
    My heart is still

    My fire is sparked

Teeks isn't necessarily about Opera. He is about music. And the language of music isn't English, Spanish, Maori, or any other spoken language. The language of music is emotion.
